If you are a fan of ice-shaving desserts, then this is THEPLACE for you. Bingsu Café serves Korean-style ice shaving. What set them apart from our local ice shaving desserts(a.k.a ice kacang) is that the ice shavings are super fine! Chocolate lovers, you have to try the Belgian Chocolate Bingsu — shavings top with cocoa powder, chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup and brownies. Yay! Try the Passion Banana Bingsu for some fruity and refreshing dessert. Though they have 2 floors, the place is always crowded. Make sure you go early or if you are lucky, you might get the outdoor seats.

Bingsu Café is a Korean desert place in the café/restaurant packed Damansara Uptown. It shares the same row as Rekindle and Epicuro Café(facing the LDP highway). Came here after dinner and ordered the popular Mango Cheese Bingsu(RM16.90). The shaved ice was fine, fluffy and not icy. Nicely done! It came with generous portions of mango and cheese chunks. The Bingsu is topped off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was rich and flavorful. Overall taste is sweet, fruity, cheesy and milky. Yum! Besides Bingsu, the café also has ice cream/sorbet and toasts. It also has board games available too. The group at the table next to mine was playing Monopoly. Makes for a great place to have dessert and hang out.

Korean dessert cafes are not something new and it was only apt that a café would open with the exact name the Koreans are good for — Bingsu. The basic Injeolmi bingsu comes with peanuts, almonds, puffed rice and soy powder atop shaved ice. It’s something like Korean ice kacang but without the syrups and colored jellies. I do prefer the Korean style as you know it’s healthier in a way and not too sweet. You can also add ice cream to your shaved ice for added oomph and sweetness. I was also recommended the blueberry cheese bingsu that arrived really pretty with a generous amount of fruit and topped with ice cream. The shaved ice is not just that, it has a fluffy milky texture that just melts in your mouth. They have a durian mango variety which is perfect for the pungent fruit lovers as well as toast if you want to nibble on something. The price is about RM10-RM 20 depending on the variety that you choose. The basic is about RM12.90 while the blueberry was RM17.90, probably because of the cheese and all that fruit. I would want to try their Jujube drinks next time, something I don’t find anywhere else!
