A restaurant decorated with so much fun decorative that will bring back your good-ol memories. Located in Changkat — of course, they do serve a wide range of cocktails here, and beers too — but they are a place for good Nyonya food as well. Again, located in Changkat, so do expect the price to be on the high side. Portion is alright, but of course, you could get cheaper food with bigger portion at some other places, but again — you are here, so it’s fair being considered. Expect the classic good kangkung fried with belacan here, and they have a very balanced food menu of vegetable and meat dishes here. Another special item I tried here would be their cheesecake which is endorsed by Wincci Soo. And, yes it was actually good. Trust me, as I had it after my heavy dinner and still liked it. They have an outdoor area here, which at night becomes really nice to be a place to catch up with friends and have a few pints.

This is my 2nd dinner at this place. With peranakan /nyonya concept complete with the vintage décor remind you of the classic horror movie about chinese vampire. Probably it’s just me. However, the food in here is ah-mah-zing. I tried the Pie Tee as a starter accompanied with Es Bandong. I would say, it was the best appetizer ever. You should try Telur Cincaluk. It’s classic, tasteful, and since I also come from ‘peranakan’ family, this egg brought me to my childhood. I tried Peranakan Ale. Home made. The flavour gave some kind of funny sensation on your throat. Put in on your must visit place in KL.

This is one of a place that you should go to if you want a really good nyonya food in Kuala Lumpur. First, the ambience is really awesome, decorated with wooden table plus some stuff that are being used in the old ages, like this food container(we called in «rantangan» in Indonesia not sure what it is called in Bahasa Malaysia), also some jars filled with really old candies like the rabbit milk candy, haw flakes, this dried orange peel, and many more. What’s even more awesome? You can take it for free! Yes, you can take it as many as you want(well, but don’t be too greedy about it :)). Food was awesome as well, I had the binjal with belacan and it was the perfect spiciness that balanced out with the binjal. Plus try out as well the stir fried squid with ladies finger and the curry chicken. So, so good! Only thing is, the uncle there looks grumpy all the time, I asked my friend before and she said the same thing. So i guess, don’t take it as he hates you or anything like that, I think that’s just the way he is. :)

My all time favourite place when it comes to nyonya food, Situated just beside Feeka and opposite Lion office tower in Changkat, this place is an antic inspired looking place with it’s antic bicycle and jars inside. i first came here for staff dinner after work to celebrate after a huge event and we ordered nyonya fish, chicken and vegetables and all the food was so good, and of course buckets of beers. Lastly, we ate cendol for dessert and it is the best cendol i have ever tasted the Gula Melaka blended so well in the santan and ice with green jelly. So So good! Another time i came here was lunch time and i came here during lunch hour, it turns out they do have set lunch, comes with drinks and cendol. You get to choose whether you want your cendol before food or after food. The lunch food includes nyonya curry laksa, asam laksa, mee hoon, fried rice and so on, i ordered the curry laksa and it somehow brings me back to Penang for a minute, the soup was so tasty like literally the santan and the curry soup was just perfect. I tried my colleague food which is the fried rice and it was so fragrant and delicious. If you love nyonya food and want to try something spicy, i recommend the the asam laksa — quite spicy for me but it has a mixture of sour and spicy and not many shops can give the burst of flavours in your mouth or the curry laksa. This place is a satisfying dinner nyonya place with a windy and shady environment with great and efficient service. Try to come early or later after lunch hour if not it will be pack or come early in the morning or come for dinner. When you think of Nyonya food, think of this place. Best place to bring foreigners here.

I absolutely adore the design and decoration of the place. Opened in a classic Malaysian styled shop lot, the owner retained that original interiors and decorated it with beautiful and colourful antique items. Sitting in the shop I couldn’t help glancing at the quirky items in the shop like the bubble gum vending machine, the old typewriter and the beautiful printed poster of an elegant Chinese lady in cheongsam. The outdoor dining area is very comfortable in the night as well. Dim lighting and cool air, the wooden decors with some greens gets you in the laid back mood in no time. When I was here for dinner the other day, I love the stir fried terung and curry fish so so much. Every bite was a bliss because it was rich in natural flavour and the texture of the ingredients were just so so soft and just nicely cooked. We had just 3 dishes with rice and couldn’t stop praising about how good the food is. For a Nyonya Malaysian food, the price is rather steep. Expect to spend about RM25 per person or more here. However, the whole dining experience will be a great one. One note though, I came here during lunch once and the food… was surprisingly disappointing. Stick to dinner and supper.

Want to get your hands(or tastebuds, rather) on some serious, authentic Nyonya food? Look no further, people. Limabelas, which just opened at The Intermark some four months ago, are delighted to serve you scrumptious, authentic Nyonya dishes made from original Nyonya recipes by their Baba chef, Uncle John. Some tasty choices smothered in rich spices include their famous Nyonya Laksa, Mee Siam, Sambal Udang Petai, and Cucur Udang, to name a few. The Nyonya Laksa is only available on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. It sells out unexpectedly fast, so unless you manage to head over before everyone else does at lunch hour, I doubt they’ll have any left for you. As it turns out, they have a good lunch set going on at RM9.90++(not sure if they still have that now). I went there around 1.30pm on 3 separate occasions and I was disappointed each time. But, I was lucky that they offered to reserve a hearty bowl of Nyonya Laksa for me the next time I planned to visit and when that day came, I was a very satisfied customer. On the flip-side, Mee Siam is available on Tuesdays & Thursdays while the Cucur Udang is subject to availability. The seemingly mixed platter of Cucur Udang was really addictive. I gave the Nyonya Fried Mee Hoon a go too, but fried mee hoon has never really been my thing. So it was just ok for me. While you’re enjoying your mains, I’d suggest to wash them down with a glass of good old Peranakan Ale(ginger + soda). But, make sure you let them know if you don’t want it too sweet. And if your tummy is not done yet, I say go for the sweet, refreshing Sago Gula Melaka. And then you can go. If you’re not too happy with the food or anything at all while you’re there, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts with the guys managing the place. They’d be more than glad to get some constructive feedback in hopes of improvement.(Plus points!) To sum it up, Limabelas is the real thing here. Delicious, authentic Nyonya food + great service + affordable price.

This Nyonya restaurant is a thing of beauty. Styled like a Melacca shop house, the place is crammed with with old typewriters, dirty sacks, spice jars, rickety tables, ornate signboards, vintage posters and more. The nostalgic theme is certainly not lost on us. When it comes to food, the nyonya cuisine is a triumph. Order the sambal udang petai and geram pedas and finish with a bowl of delicious cendol. Best of all, you can have a big meal at roughly RM20.

It’s easy to walk past Lima Blas without a second glance as its inconspicuous façade looks like a cosy baba nyonya home. The restaurant is a more chilled out venue — a calmer alternative to the neighbouring rows of watering holes at Changkat Bukit Bintang. You’ll be immediately transported back to time as the restaurant is decorated with old knick-knacks and vintage items, including old flour gunnysacks that have been framed up on the walls. The owner of Lima Blas is known to be a vintage collector who sourced his precious items from various Southeast Asia countries including Malaysia. He teamed up with Uncle John, spouse of celebrity chef Florence Tan who is known for her nyonya recipes from her cookbooks. Though the menu isn’t as extensive as other nyonya restaurants, you will still find your favourite nyonya dishes available such as the shrimp topped Pai Tee, Ayam Pongteh, Sambal Udang with Petai and Asam Fish. Do not shy away from the fluffy Telur Cincaluk as the cincaluk wasn’t strong. The Ayam Pongteh came in a hearty serving and the fermented soya bean gravy wasn’t too thick or diluted. There’s also the classic chicken curry made with full of creamy santan goodness. If there was one thing to note however, it was that the dishes at Lima Blas did not provide the spicy kick I was looking for. Those who are used to spicy dishes may end up disappointed as the spicy level at Lima Blas will suit those who can only consume it at a mild level. Prices at Lima Blas are well beyond reasonable as compared to the other higher priced establishments in the area. There’s also a variety of alcohol available for a chilled out night without burning a whole in your pocket. Look out for their decent lunch set on weekdays and daily specials on the board.
