Had to find a place to hide from the rain. Coffee Amo, hidden on the second floor of a shoplot on Jalan Sultan, did the job nicely. Warm lighting and a motley collection of furniture, prints and magazines await; and both drip-over single origin coffee(RM15) and the usually lattes(RM12−15) address are available. The homemade cakes are surprisingly dense and flavorful — tried the Belgian Chocolate and Rum & Raisin cakes(RM10 each), and both were yummy. There are some pies but not much hot/savory food. It’s a small space, with no piped-in music or separate kitchen so it’s not the quietest or calmest of places, but if some conversation and the hiss of the coffee machines doesn’t bother you, it’s a good place to while await an hour or two.

Right in the heart of Petaling Street is a coffee place that is above those small street shop lots below. This place is frequented by many students who attends a school in or nearby KL. On the left, there is a long bar table facing the windows for those who prefer to have the sunlight shining onto their home works, or assignments. At the center are and on the right are sqaured tables with beach chairs. Right next to the entrance, my favourite spot, is a black torn and worn leather sofa with a coffee table in front of it. The sofa is more for people to just chill and relax with some good company. I had a latte here and it came in a rather small glass cup but the latte was smooth with a nice aroma. I could see why students who make their way to this place because in its own small way(the café is rather small, similar to the size or a master bedroom, maybe slight longer), is comfortable and cozy, and it doesn’t get too packed.

Amo café is a coffee shop shared with a cultural centre at Jalan Sultan. It is located on the first floor and the space is quite small but feels very homey and cozy. It can be quite cold since it is a small space. Amo is famous for their 3D coffee art and I got a cup for myself too! I’ve got to say I’m quite impressed with the details curated on the coffee. The cup of coffee is sadly quite small. I gave Rose Garden and Green Tea Latte a try before and I love it! Rose Garden is a cup of coffee with a tinge of rose flavor and it definitely expanded my taste buds! As for Green Tea Latte, it is really different from starbucks one. It is a lot milkier and less sugary. They also serve waffles but I never got to try them before.

Most likely the only café in the whole of Petaling Street, Coffee Amo sure serves up a good cuppa. You can choose from the standard coffee list or opt for one of the signature blends with interesting names like rose garden, sweet 16 and of course affogato. We went for a simple flat white and tea for the day but couldn’t help but oohed and aahed at a neighboring table’s cup. It came with a really cute 3D coffee art, which I heard was what they do best. I later found out it was the Ocean 11 blend, one of their signatures and boy, you do pay for what you get — RM13 for a hot cup. One thing is do have lunch first before visiting unless your idea of a meal is desserts and waffles. Suffice to say, it’s kinda hole in a wall location makes for a better experience and the cosiness of it makes you just want to curl up and drink coffee all day long!

If you happen to be shopping around Chinatown, then Coffee Amo is definitely a stop that you have to make to escape the sweltering heat and overwhelming crowd. Quiet and rather secluded, this small café managed to attract coffee lovers from all over KL and PJ with its quirky and attractive décor as well good coffee. What makes this place so unique is the soothing ambiance that it provides, despite being centrally located in the middle of the Petaling street. There are books for you to read, sometimes even music played by the talented barista-cum-guitarist. There is also a museum-like room filled with Chinese antiques right outside of the café!
