Today’s temperature reached 60 degrees in February! This winter has not been warm, yet today the sun was shining and there was an air of spring. In February! So what does one do on a warm winter day? Look for outdoor spots that serve wine, clearly. That’s not always an easy feat at 2:30pm when lunch establishments usually close., not to mention that outdoor seating is pretty hard to come by. My bestie and I wandered a bit before we found Ohana Aina. Right across from base, they have one table for two outside their Hawaiian restaurant. Inside has quite a few seats and certainly has decorative charm. The menu was actually quite diverse with breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks as options. Sitting outside, we ordered the soups and had our mini wine. The clam chowder and minestrone were quite good. Service was fine. I will definitely go back for the pancakes. With so few outdoor options in Yokosuka, I can’t complain. Loved my wine and sunshine.

I was hoping to get the amazing loco moco everyone raves about. I was very excited to try this place since the reviews make it seem like a diamond in the rough. I went for an early dinner with the wife and we went here on an off peak hour. As expected — the waitress was cook, hostess, and entire staff. The food was cooking after we ordered which is fine dime we were just chatting the afternoon away. The wife ordered garlic shrimp and I ordered the loco moco with a piece of garlic bread. The wife really enjoyed the flavor of the shrimp — the only downfall is that there were 7 shrimp, not prawns — on her dish. They were kind of small but she seemed content. I would have been foaming for something additional if it was me. The garlic bread was a decent slab with fresh pressed garlic and loads of sweet buttery goodness. Crispy on the crust, soft in the core — perfect. The loco moco just made me sad. I am used to having yolk in my egg. It was over hard so the runny yolk mixing with the rich gravy never happened. The rice was a little dry, and the hamburger was thick but tasted dried out. You would expect a thick burger to be seared on the outside to keep the moisture in. The Mac salad and gravy were amazing — but overall the combined dish was underwhelming. I might come back for a lunch in the future when they have more staff. My dish just seemed rushed and I feel the parts had such promise. 2.5 would be my score if I could, this could have been a bad time to eat there…

Had been curious about this place since coming back to Yokosuka last year and finally got to try it the other night. Hubby and I walked in a bit after 5pm on a Saturday and were the only customers the whole time — which was good because the food there is made when ordered and does take some time; there’s even a note on that on the menu. I ordered the garlic butter shrimp with rice while my husband ordered the Loco Moco. I was satisfied with my dish for the most part; my only issue was that the portions were rather small and still felt slightly hungry after eating. But the shrimp was cooked perfectly and you can tell fresh garlic was used in the dish, which I loved. Hubby had mixed feelings about his Moco Loco… he enjoyed the gravy used and the Mac salad, but like me, had issue with the small portions. We’ll definitely be back as we did enjoy our meal but we’ll be sure to go there when we’re not starving…

This little Hawaiian café is conveniently located across from the Yokosuka Naval Base. My husband and I come here when we crave for«breakfast» or «island» food. It may take a little while to get your food, but it is totally worth it. Everything we’ve tried so far was delicious with no complaints!!! The staff is very friendly and the environment is clean and cozy. It’s a small restaurant, but that’s expected in Japan. We will continue to come here and strongly recommend people to try it.

I came here for Loco Moco but unfortunately they were out or something so I was disappointed. But my fish was awesome, and my friend said his burger was ok. I’ll come back one day to see if they have Loco Moco.

A nice fun little Hawaiian joint located a short walk from the main gate of the base. The menu is fun and pretty diverse, running the gamut from Fried Chicken to Fried Spam; and Coconut Shrimp to… PANCAKES! Everything tasted good and had good presentation. The place was cozy and quiet when we went in, although it was an off time(3pm). I’ve seen photos showing musical performances here. One thing to be aware off is they din’t start cooking anything until you order it(they mention this in either the menu or some sign, i can’t remember) and if you come at an off time like we did, there may be only one person there, both running the register and cooking the food. This didn’t bother us at all but if you are in a rush, keep in mind you won’t be getting in and out of there in a hurry. Overall a good place to chill, relax and have some fun food.

Review #50! Ohana Aina Café! A little Café with a theme from the 50th and best state in the US. HAWAI’I. My opinion. The menu is full of local Hawaiian favorites. One of my favorites I order when visiting home is Loco Moco. Hamburger patty + Over easy egg + gravy over rice. I gotta say that this place makes some bomb loco moco. «Broke da mout» or so good your mouth too tired and cannot chew anymore. Most places use a dry cheap burger and mask it with the gravy. Not this place. Burger on point, gravy just right. I’m getting used to the local Japanese eggs. Yolk is a darker orange than in the US. Goes great with the rice. I also ordered a hotdog just to try one here. It was tasty as well. Drinks– Kona coffee available. Kona brewing company beers as well. I settled for the one in the pic. Great service and love the Hawaiian décor. Looking forward to my next visit. Mahalo Ohana Aina Café.
