I love this place. I feel embarrassed admitting that this bar was one of my favorite places in Tokyo… because it’s New York in Tokyo… but whatever! Walk through the super pretty Park Hyatt Tokyo and take two different elevators up to get to this bar. If you’re not a hotel guest, then there is a $ 24/person cover. Drinks/food are also expensive but I thought it was worth it. I love live jazz bars, and the volume of the music was PERFECT. Not too loud, not too quiet. Talented musicians. We got a window seat, and the view of Tokyo was also amazing… This place is so romantic. Great date spot! asdfkljasdfkwejfklasdfjwkelfjlafklwefla I keep replaying a video I have of this place because this place was just so magical. LOVETHISPLACE.

How pretty is this place! Oh so pretty!!! This is not your average hotel bar. No sir! You’ll be mistaken. This is one of a kind. And of course: lost in translation! Who hasn’t seen that movie by now?! And bourdain? I mean! Come on! I splurged and sold my kidneys to stay at this hotel for a few nights. It was one of the top 5 most expensive places I’ve ever stayed at. And definitely my top 3 favorites! And this is just for a regular hotel room. Not talking about the suites and such. Reception/check in was on 42nd floor! My room was on the 51st floor! And this bar I believe was on 52nd floor! Talk about high rise!!! The experience in staying here was beyond magical! The nicest people I’ve ever met! All we needed to do to come here was call the front desk and make reservations. No cover or anything. Perhaps it would be different if you are not a hotel guest? But the service in this entire building is beyond amazing. Our awesome front desk person came to the room, escorted us to the elevator and few beeps later: viola! We are above Tokyo!!! I mean all glass, floor to ceiling stunning views! It is stunning. The bar itself is much smaller than I imagined but it fits a ton of people. The smoking though! I can’t do it. But you don’t smell it! So its good. They had a very beautiful Marilyn Monroe look a like lady singing jazzy songs. The band was in tuxes and such. The drinks are well priced. And that view! As I sip and try to take in this massive/stunning city beneath us, I started to sway! Back and forth! Wait! That wasn’t me! That was an earthquake!!! I looked around. The crowded bar full of people(Japanese business people/tourists/etc) didn’t even flinch! It was a good 2 minutes long earth quake! Their super tentative bar manager saw my panic wide eyes and came running. He assured me: oh it’s just an earth quake. We are in a very safe building. :O :O I got another champagne cocktail to calm my nerves :) I mean come on! I just survived an earth quake from 50 something floor! It’s a given. Even if they get about 100 of these a year, it was a first for me. #EarthQuakeWhat The drinks here are pretty pricey but it is Tokyo! And you are on a vacation! Gotta splurge. Plus, in this impeccable hotel, everything is worth a splurge. If you are not staying here, come here anyway! Have a well made manhattans or two. Sip on some quality champagne! Listen to jazz and get lost in all those stunning Shinjuku lights! When in Rome :)

As a hotel bar whore, I found that the New York Bar at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo to be one of the much better bars I’ve been to. It’s amazing to me how timeless and trendy the bar feels, even though its pretty much been the same for the past 16 or so years. The crowd is pretty international with the mix of Japanese as well. Upon entering you will be asked to pay a cover if you are not a guest. Upon being seated at one of the long community tables, I was able to take in everything from the live jazz band playing near the windows and living my Lost in Translation fandom. I ordered a few basic cocktails(Old Fashioned, Manhattan) and finished up with a Yamazaki 18. Overall, its definitely one of the nicest hotel bars I’ve been to. The view over Tokyo is a jaw dropper. Albeit it is expensive considering, but if you’re in Tokyo the Park Hyatt is a must.

This place got the best view in Tokyo, pricey but well worth it. Food is great, drinks are also good and most importantly you can smoke. All the people who complain about prices and smoke please go to McDonald’s for a happy meal.

Located inside the Park Hyatt Hotel, the New York Bar is a very sleek and trendy bar with an amazing view of Tokyo. You’ll find the crowd is international, as most are people staying at the hotel. We only had a drink here while waiting for our table at Kozue. The drinks are very pretty and tasty, but beware that prices are high and you’ll be charged a fee if you’re not staying at the hotel. If you’re staying at the hotel, this is definitely worth checking out in the evening!

Here’s what you need to know: The food is mediocre, the crowd is entirely touristy, the cover charge during key hours is egregious, the cigarette smoke is unbearable, and the drinks are very expensive. The wait to get a window side table can be HOURS. However, the view is incredible. My side and I were excited to try out the New York Bar at our hotel rooftop(Park Hyatt), and the view certainly lives up to the billing… Absolutely stunning. However, everything else is just meh. We were seated at a table one row removed from the window and were put on a waiting list with an «undefined» wait time to move to a window table. That’s understandable given the popularity of this place, since it was featured in «Lost in Translation». I can only recommend this bar during odd peak hours, without the cover charge so you can enjoy the lavish views.

Super expensive, and super worth it. I went for lunch because it’s cheaper. Same, money-making view though. Lunch came with an appetizer, and dessert buffet with my main course! Great deal. I had the steak, but being from America, it wasn’t the best steak I’ve had for the same cost. However, I loved the all-you-can-eat appetizer, and dessert spread. Everything was delicious, and best of all, unlimited, which made it possible to eat my money’s worth. It is a very posh, and upscale restaurant. Try to dress to impress for dinner, but you can let your hair down for lunch because I saw a bunch of families with children, and they were all wearing jeans, sneakers, and t-shirts(probably hotel guests/tourists). The service was fine. You get greeted at every elevator that takes you towards the dining area. The waiters we had did their job well. It also features an open kitchen! Awesome view, luxurious atmosphere, unlimited appetizers/dessert! One fine dining scene that’s worth the $$$$$. Follow me on Instagram, and Twitter @GenkiGirlNot!

New York Bar is the perfect place for an out of towner to have a cocktail. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We came with two friends on a Saturday evening before dinner and had a few relaxing and delicious drinks. I chose the New Yorker(being a New Yorker it felt only fitting) and it was the perfect classy drink to enjoy the live music and sightsee around the bar. Be sure to walk around the entire bar as the view is breathtaking from every side! I will be recommending a stop into the New York bar to any friends visiting Tokyo! It is well worth the prices and the added cinematic touch of being the venue for the lost in translation filming doesn’t hurt!

So you’re in Tokyo one day and thought to yourself: «Where to drink?» but then you saw the New York Bar, which is a bit hard to find if you ask me, but you don’t care. You like it. The interior looks really nice, and they will charge you if you’re not staying at the hotel. There are waiters/waitresses who speak English, which is good for me because my Japanese is worse than scratching a chalkboard in rhythm to Lil Wayne(according to a lovely Japanese gal I chatted with). It’s quite expensive, but it’s not bad if you want to have a drink with friends and dine a bit while listening to American Jazz music. In short, this is just a two night memorial of the United States with expensive drinks and food. Do I recommend it? Sure, just be ready to fork up the price and get something you can get back home in the U.S. Did you know, Lost in Translation was filmed here?

Well, it was expensive. And(really) hard to find. And aside from being *that* bar and being able to say you went to *that* bar, it wasn’t all that special of an experience for the money we spent. Also, it’s an American/NY themed bar in Tokyo. Did we all fly all this way to listen to American jazz, drink Manhattans and eat overpriced burgers and fries? Really? Anyway, you can avoid the cover by going before 8pm, at which time they apply a £12 per person charge to your bill. They give fair warning of this — once when we arrived and asked for a table, and once about five minutes before 8pm. The band played from 8 – 8:45 then again from 9:30−1015 or so. They were good and it certainly helped set the atmosphere. We paid a LOT for six drinks(£100 including the cover) and at least got a seemingly bottomless bowl of rice cracker mix. The cocktails were both classic and signature(and some really good options for both, I think), and the pours were heavy. Service was ok … should be better for the prices. Had to ask for water a few times before it arrived and had just the slightest hint of annoyance at our asking to move tables when one opened up closer to that view. There isn’t a dress code though I think there should be. Again, if they’re going to charge that much for a drink *and* have a cover it implies there’s an effort to set a standard. Spoils the mood a bit when my husband and I go out of our way to dress up and pay up for a nice night out in Tokyo and see a group of people in baggy denim and sweatshirts. I’m glad we went and it’s pretty cool watch a film and say«I’ve been there!» and the view is indeed amazing, but keep your expectations in check.

So you’re in Tokyo and you saw«Lost in Translation» and you just have to stop in to the bar for a drink, right? Just keep those expectations in check. The hotel occupies the upper floors of a very tall office building. There are plenty of people down below who can direct you to the elevators to access it. Take your time walking through the hotel because it is really spectacular — lots of gorgeous woodwork and Japanese design. You quickly realize why a single night here is so expensive. The bar isn’t really much of a bar at all. There is no bar where you can sit and have a drink. That’s what they call«movie magic». Instead, you can grab a table and enjoy the unencumbered view of the Tokyo skyline, which is vast and seemingly infinite. My dad ordered a Jameson on the rocks, I had an old fashioned. His complaint was they pour too modestly, and the Jameson didn’t even cover the rocks. My complaint was minor, but they used a lemon in my old fashioned in place of an orange. Odd. They provide some tasty wasabi snacks to munch on, but there’s also a bar menu if you want a little something more. Oh, and don’t think there’s much of a dress code here. The table next to us consisted of a few typical American-types, whom my dad referred to as «Duck Dynasty» since they were all wearing caps and looking ultra casual. This is definitely a tourist trap spot, but the killer view makes it worthwhile. Maybe next time I’ll have dinner so I can give it a proper full review, but as a spot to grab a nightcap it worked out perfectly.

Amazing view and expertly crafted cocktails. It’s a bit tricky to get to but well worth the effort. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor, the elevator to the 41st, and walk past the crappy bar(The Peak Bar), past the fancy restaurant and through the library to the other set of elevators — then head up to the 52nd. If you’re not coming here because of Lost in Translation, you might want to watch it before you do — it adds to the experience significantly. **hot tip** you’ll need to pay cover after 8pm on a week night because they have a live band. Better check before you make the trip. But, amazing view!

There is a cover charge, if you don’t stay in the hotel. I did, for four nights I camped out at a corner suite at Park Hyatt. So on the last night, it felt appropriate to ride the elevator to the 52nd floor to check out the scene where Lost in Translation was filmed. A blond gal in dark black long dress was singing. As a hotel guest, they sit you by the window, and there is no cover charge, and a wait staff who spoke perfect English arrived to take the order. Nice and efficient service, and I got to check out the band on the stage. There is absolutely nothing like this in San Francisco. Nothing. Not even close. It’s not just the view, which I think Top of the Mark and Sir Francis Drake’s Starlight Room seem to have as well, it’s the level of service and cocktail choices. I went with the only sake on the menu, and my companion had their anniversary signature drink. Very delicious. There was some bar food snack. I had already eaten sushi for dinner and was not particularly hungry, though I must admit their fries fried in duck fat seemed very intriguing. I googled Lost in Translation, the movie, simply because I had forgotten about it. It’s about a middle age man seeking some sort of connection, and found Scarlet Johansson in the city of Tokyo. Tokyo does seem to be filled with middle age white men who have shacked up with bunch of younger women who could be their daughters. This bar, however, did not seem to have any of them. It seemed to attract foreign travelers and locals who were looking for a special occasion place. I tried not to pay attention to the couple who were kissing to the right of me. I also tried not to eavesdrop the neighbors’ business talk, they spoke English and Finnish. I looked out to find the spectacular view. It was pitch black with blinking red lights, scattered in the evening sky, and not to far into the distance. There is something like it in New York, London and Paris, and that’s about it. This is not just any bar, it’s New York Bar. The one and only in Tokyo. It’s a place one must come and visit like one visits the Tsukiji fish market. While there, be thankful you are not that middle age man lost, and is seeking for that illusive connection in a foreign land. Or, are you?

Very much enjoyed my time here. Worth the trek from our hotel and worth the yen haha. You’re paying top dollar for the quality, impeccable service and most of all the outstanding view. Something I’ll never forget. As with most reviewers here — if you’re just here to experience a view and have some drinks, get here before they enforce the cover charge. Simples! And my god, absolutely order the duck fat chips — to die for!!!

Came here on New Year Eve … the good part is because of the 9pm celebration event, the band started extra early at 5:30pm. The bad part is so does the 2,500 yen cover. A few people decided to just have a drink in twenty minutes and leave. But we stayed for the music and view… and it was totally worth it. Watching the skyline light up as the sun slow sets over Tokyo with the smooth jazz in the background is a grand experience. This is not to be missed if you can make time for it!

Arrived at 9:45pm on a Sunday night and it was quite a task getting to this«well worth the 19 Minute wait; mystifying View From The 52nd Floor» heavenly escape! Entrance is via the 2nd Floor, Main Entrance of the Park Hyatt Hotel. Embrace the«All Well Diverse,» helpful English speaking staff and journey through the contemptuous décor of «elegance» as you enter the«non-stop, ear popping» elevator to the 41st floor. As you disembark, you’re faced with the«preemptive» challenge of partaking in the immediate gratifying relief of an upscale lounge open till 10pm(bar until 11pm), But keep that wallet tucked away as the real joy is yet a few floors higher. Take another quick journey to the 52nd floor and be prepared to offer your name to the strategically placed host/hostess. While waiting for your bar placement and/or plush table seating(average wait time of 15 minutes), enjoy the breathtaking view of Tokyo. Not a lot of seating available during this wait, and no alcohol served during this wait, but the view and friendly guest occupies your delay. Now the moment you’ve envisioned, you’re in your nice slacks, dress shoes and Brooks Brothers and you enter with the soothing sounds of soft jazz emanating from the live band fornicating your ear drums and the incurable salivating aroma of «prime Culinary Food». L.I.T.(Lost In Translation) Martini is the first order of business as this popular complimented Martini takes a while from«order» to «consumption». Next item of business is the«Duck Fat Fried Fries», coupled with the delicate cut of Kobe Beef. Add the«Ceaser Salad» and be prepared to cut your way through the Romaines of Lettuce so big, well, you probably won’t get to enjoy it all as this 3000 yen salad for«one,» is actually for two, maybe even three! Four«long waited» L.I.T.‘s latter followed by a 173,000 yen bill(originally for one which through the«four play» of scenery turns into«two», you’re on your way home and guests are still arriving. Well done, one for the record books! BTW, after 8pm expect to pay about 3,000 yen cover charge. Oh, and be sure you meet the dress code, if not, they will accommodate; complimentary. Taxis are standing bye out front and the short ride to Shinjuki train station shouldn’t cost more than 830 yen. Enjoy!

Yeah yeah, like most other tourists, I saw this bar in Lost in Translation so I figured I’d stop up for a quick drink. Well thanks to the good music and the amazing views, that quick drink turned into several drinks and some food too. Beware, with great views and service comes great cost. I think they probably jacked it up even more knowing it’s becoming a tourist destination. Regardless, it was still a pretty cool spot to hang. Drink wise, I paid about 10 yen for a beer and about 17 yen for a martini. Pretty steep, but oh well, it was vacation. Music wise, the band was pretty good. I kind of enjoyed just the instrumental music by itself than when the jazz singer joined them. It felt a bit classier as just instrumental jazz. Either way, we stuck around for about an hour and a half and enjoyed it. It’s worth a stop in for a drink. If you get there and leave before 8PM you don’t need to pay the music cover.

I’m a dork. I saw this bar in Lost in Translation and wanted to come here. It looked so cool, exemplifying the perfect sleek Tokyo skyscraper bar. The décor and atmosphere were so upscale and relaxing. I loved the jazz ensemble. In life, I tend to lean towards the«you get what you pay for» mentality, but the NY Bar is one of those legit places where people are allowed to say, «Tokyo is expensive.» $ 30 entrance cover for non-guests, $ 60 cheeseburger, $ 20 drinks. My suggestion if you don’t have an expense account is to come here just for a drink and duck fat fries, which are of course incredible.
