Self serve craft beer bar near Shibuya Station. I really love the concept of this new bar that opened in the fall of 2015. Step 1 — Take the long flight of stairs to the third floor. No elevators. Step 2 — Find the ticket vending machine. Insert 800 Yen. Take the token, which is good for a cup of beer and popcorn. Step 3 — Give the token to the bar tender. He will give you an empty glass. Step 4 — Choose from a selection of 6 beers on tap and pour. Tips: Feel free to discard foam. Beer Selection: I would avoid Master’s Dream(Suntory) and Kohaku No Toki(Asahi). I don’t consider these craft beers. Go with Coedo, Baird, etc. Depending on the day, their selection changes. All on all, I wasn’t super excited about their selections. These are majors to mid-majors. It would be cooler if they offered more interesting microbrewery beers. Atmosphere: Standing bar, so don’t expect to sit. Quite roomy. I could see 40 people could fill this room. Cost performance: So they don’t charge cover. However, you are forced to buy the beer and popcorn combo for 800 Yen. Since I feel that there should be a law that states that popcorn at bars should be free, I consider the extra 300 Yen to be their cover charge. Is 500 Yen cheap for their craft beer? Hmmm. I forgot to bring my volumetric flask, so I don’t know how much beer I got for 500 Yen, but my guess is that it was about half of a pint. 500 Yen for ½ Pint is average for craft beer. Maybe tad cheaper than the norm. Many restaurants charge 1200 Yen for a pint of Coedo beer. All in all, a great addition to Shibuya beer scene.
