This is a fantastic little place. We arrived in Kyoto absolutely starving and headed straight out to get some vegan food into us! If you can’t read/speak Japanese, don’t be fooled by the exterior of the café, they have a menu with English and the staff are very helpful. The inside of the café is very cosy and home like, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I had the avocado burger, which was delicious, and my boyfriend had the nanban burger, which he said was amazing. Then we came back the next night, I had the Kyoto style katsu burger(the best, must try) and my boyfriend had ‘meat’ sauce pizza, which he said was great as well. The meals look small but are very filling, and the side salad that comes with the meals always has a really nice dressing. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making great tasting, well presented food. All vegan, all good. Highly recommended!

It was the BEST vegan burger I’ve ever had in my life! I got an avocado burger, and the burger was made out of Konjac(こんにゃく) plant. If you are vegetarian or vegan, I highly recommend this place! And Basil Rice Salad dish was excellent too!

Great ambience, great location for a vegan restaurant, and, most importantly, super tasty. I had the Kyoto-style tofu burger — came with a delicious simple salad, too — and the smoked tofu. My brother had the green tea and earl tea doughnuts, with vegan ice cream. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal after a day spent hiking the temple hills!

I am not a vegan, vegetarian or wathever-tarian but Café Matsuontoko located in Kyoto was really good and their burger tasted like meat. It was cozy and most of all, NOSMOKING. It was our first time so we were both cautious and decided to order a burger set. I got the Nanban Burger with Tartar Sauce and S got the Avocado Burger. The burger itself was not that big but it was so good. I think I finished it in less than 2 minutes and of course with all the walking I did that day, I was famished. The staff can also speak some English so you can ask what they used if you have some allergy or on strict Vegan diet. But one thing I can stay, when I am in Kyoto, I will definitely go back there and try some of their other burger.
