A New York style gastropub. 1−8−8 is their address. Nope, it is not a street number. As you may already know, Japan does not have street names, so there are no street numbers. Higashi-Azabu 1−8−8. Yep, these randomly selected location identification numbers leads you to Towers 188. You need to bookmark this place, because this place is really cool. Do you miss NYC? Well, come here and you can get a taste of the Big Apple. Nope, you cannot see Empire States Building from here, but the view of Tokyo Tower is Amazing. While the owner/manager here is Japanese, he seems to know what people like myself enjoy. Most Japanese run so called«American» food is far from real American, but Towers 188 does a pretty good job. FOOD: I know that the category in Unilocal is traditional American, but food here is NOT traditional. Food here is more of a modern style pub/wine bar food. No fancy stuff here. Just cool bar style food like mussels, fried avocado, pâté, etc. DRINKS: Brooklyn Lager on draft. What else do you need to feel like you are in Manhattan? Their bottle wine selection wasn’t too bad either. I was pleasantly surprised by the offering of some aged white wine. The manager did an excellent job explaining the characteristics of each bottle. RESERVATIONS: They accept reservations, so I highly recommend that you call ahead. The place is not big, so it fills up quickly. On the day I went, I saw that they had to turn away many customers. COFFEE: They offer dripped coffee to go. Not those cheap stuff, but real pour over coffee. You can treat this place as a neighborhood coffee stand. Taste was great! VERDICT: All in all, awesome addition to Higashi-Azabu area. More reasons not to go to Roppongi.
