Honestly. The very best sushi I ever had. Holy cow its good. I will extend this review later, but couldnt wait to share it! Soooooo GOOD! Edit 20⁄11 Oh this took me some sweet time to add. Ok, some Japanese friends took us to this Sushi Bar. We tried to book Jiro up to two times and to no avail. But our friend Kawahara knew a good place he said. A place that our other two Japanese friends also hadn’t visited before either. Even in Japan, these kind of places are quite expensive, so for both them as for us, it was a very unique experience. It was a classic sushi place with a big wooden bar, which would seat around. 12? people? We were the only one’s in the beginning, which gave us plenty opportunity to talk to the chef, Daisuke Shimazaki, who speaks English, making it a lot easier to explain dislikes or allergies. Basically, you tell the chef your budget and your dislikes. As for me, I didn’t want to try the sea urchin or oysters, because I dislike their jellyness. He takes note, and then he just prepares dish after dish. My friend Natsuko explained us that we were in good luck. The sushi chef was able to buy the best tuna in Tokyo’s fish market that day. So we had the best and freshest sushi. Also we were treated to a special fish that was only available in this season as was a very special sort of mushroom that was hidden underneath one of the sushi pieces. Next to that, he serves the softest, most delicious ginger on the side you’ll ever taste, and the fresh grated wasabi compliments all the flavors divinely! It showed. The tuna was divine. I never have tasted something so delicious. Even the simple maki’s he created of slivers of tuna were heavenly. The best thing? Not only we were sent through the roof by this meal. Our Japanese friends were enjoying it just as much as we were, eyeing the roof ecstatically as they savored the flavors. It made it even more special for us that it was such a treat for them as well! We had a great great great time, and although it costs around 15.000 yen per person(say 120 euro /140 dollars) it was worth every penny. As sushi in The Netherlands is ruined for me forever now, I save the money I am not spending in Dutch restaurants anyway so. no mind: P It was worth it. Big time. Fun fact: Lady Gaga seems to come here all the time when she is in Japan. I can see why. Another fun fact. Kind sushi chef Daisuke Shimazaki send us a Facebook message and added us on Facebook. It was very kind — and of course clever marketing — but still it made us feel we made much more of a connection. The staff is super helpful and kind and we had a very good time. I dare to state we might had a lesser experience at the stoic Jiro. This was a blast, and when we get back tot Tokyo we will run — not walk — back to this place! If you are ever in Tokyo and you love sushi. PLEASEGOHERE! But don’t blame me if your tastebuds are spoiled forever and ever ;)
