Although I want to stress that«Gogyo» is so far my favorite Ramen place available in central Tokyo, I’m not entirely sure if you would like it just because Ramen is the hardest category to get a consensus on. I’ve known some people who are not very crazy about this place and I kind of see where they stand. It’s got a thick and unique taste(as you can tell by its looks) — Their«Miso» ramen doesn’t taste like Miso and it’s more like a roast garlic/soy-sauce flavor with a slight touch of Miso. For me, it’s exceptionally good, though I have to admit it feels a bit salty for many people. As they purposefully put a very thin layer of oil on the surface of the soup, the soup stays dangerously hot for the longest time(at least till you finish it). Watch out for your month but it’s insanely good! They have several different Rames ready for you, but for your first time I’d definitely recommend«Miso» above anything else. If you drop by for dinner hours, it’s more like a «Izakaya» place(Japanese style bar) than a ramen place and yet you can just have a ramen and leave. Very casual and reasonable. The downside is that it taks 15+ minutes from the Roppongi station and you’ll probably get lost for the first time. Prepare yourself with your Google Maps on your cell phone to avoid that situation.

Favorites… Burnt Miso Ramen, Gyoza, Kariage Chicken. All delightful and filling. I discovered of the burnt miso ramen in Kyoto, however as I travel there infrequently I began a seach of this delicacy. First, without joy, in the US. … Then on a recent trip to Tokyo I found this cousin to the Kyoto location… I was not disappointed. Others have written about this bowl’s sumptuous flavor and richness… and done so appropriately. The recipes, be it miso or soy based, are very tasty and offer a unique twist of the many not so imaginative ramen receipies we have been bored with. Boulders and split tree planks adorn this off the main drag shop. We have visited lunch, dinner, and late night and have enjoyed wonderful meals along with courteous service. The full bar was nice to see during for the later evening chomping. Other guests ranges from younger date night clients, families, and chain smoking Tokyo business men. If you appreciate the warmth and comfort offered by a reasonably priced gut filling bowl of soup, noodles, chasu, and a perfectly cooked ramen egg… then this might be your Rappongi Hills Eden.

If you’re a fan on burnt ramen, then you’ll love this place. Came with a large group after a baseball game and we couldn’t be happier with the service and the grub. I will say, as a broth girl, it was super salty, but that’s to be expected and I can’t fault them for that. Just be sure to debloat and detox the next day or before bed or you’ll wake up looking llike the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. No joke! The ramen came in a huge black bowl with a ridiculously savory broth. To cut the salt, it was also served with cabbage. Always need some crunch. Overall, would recommend for large parties and a good time.

There is no shortage of ramen restaurants in Tokyo. As such, the competition is absolutely fierce. The basis for my ramen reviews in Japan is based on the fact that these ramen restaurants offer something a little more /different than the usual Shoyu or Miso Ramen. Gogoyo is the sister restaurant of the world famous Ippudo ramen franchise. It’s specialty is «Burnt» Miso /«Burnt» Shoyo ramen. The«Burnt» aspect of the ramen served at Gogoyo makes it lot different from the usual miso /Shoyo ramen you’ve probably tied. For one, the broth is black for whatever reasons accentuates the taste of either Miso and or Shoyo, whichever your order. It’s a ramen I’ve tried before and likely a type of ramen not readily available outside of Japan. The ramen is good, but certainly not my favorite. I’m a Tsukemen with a gravy like soup kinda guy. For this very reason, I rate the restaurant four stars because simply, the«burnt» ramen is unique. The ambience of the Roppongi location is hip and trendy. Much more a place to be seen, rather than a hole in the wall like many ramen restaurants I’ve been to. In short, for those wanting to get the full ramen experience in Tokyo, Gogoyo MUST be on your itinerary.

Gogyou is a sister restaurant of Ippudo. With a great experience at Ichiran, we decided that belonging to a chain restaurant isn’t as bad as we thought. Burnt ramen is Gogyou’s specialty. Setting fire to fat in the broth keeps your bowl of ramen warm from top to bottom, first to last slurp. And it delivered. It never got cold or lukewarm. The taste tho. It was quite lacking. We made the trek from central Roppongi Hills to this part of the area by foot(with a little more time spent getting lost) and waited an hour for them to reopen at 5pm, only to be disappointed. We were, I supposed, expecting too much. I mean, it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t mind blowing and different as we were hoping for.

After walking miles with misleading google/apple map directions… After waiting over an hour to wait for it to open… I have to say Gogyou Ramen was a complete disappointment. Follow me foodie — you screwed us again. The burnt miso ramen by presentation looked lovely. The taste was quite the opposite. They take the fat of the broth and apply fire to it burning the soup, leaving charred bits of fat. I expected a lot from the soup. I expected super rich flavor, super concentrated broth but it was thin and the taste was confusing. The noodles were nothing special. This was nowhere close to Ichiran but then again, I’m not comparing their tonkatsu. I guess after the journey of getting here, it’s left me with too high expectations. I hate you follow me foodie Tokyo.
