We walked in hoping to find silly gifts for our people back home. But immediately upon walking in, we were overwhelmed. We had to literally force a quick lap and walk out. We couldn’t find anything of significant quality, everything was literally crap. And not as cheap as it should be. Apparently, it is open 24⁄7 which is nice. Otherwise, meh.

The best way I can describe this from an American perspective is like a dollar store on crack. You can find anything inside Don Quijote that you would want for your stay in Japan — cheap liquor, condoms, underwear, pop-up tents, dress shirts, a keyboard and just about every flavor of Kit Kat that you’d expect an American confectioner to make for their non-US market. When I was looking for gifts for people back home, I came here(despite there being a DQ near my hotel in Shinjuku that I just didn’t know about) and I didn’t find much. What I would say is this is a great store to pick up cheap liquor* when you get done paying super-high prices at the local restaurants and bars, or for some essentials that you forgot to bring to Tokyo since it’s open 24-hours a day. But it’s not really for tourist-y gifts to bring people back home. * — they even had Buffalo Trace bourbon, which, I mean, is pretty impressive.

You can find everything in this discount store… if you don’t mind feeling a bit dirty. It’s hard to compare Don Quijote(Donkihote in Japanese) to anything else. I just think of loud and cheap. Loud — voices, music, signs/colors, lights… you name it, LOUD. Cheap — quality, price, and service. As a tourist it can be fun to enter one just to see what is about. You can find some of the wacky Japanese items that you only read about.(They have an adult section, and I’ve heard you can find stressballs that are shaped like boobs… and probably crazier things) This is also a hot spot to pick up cheap liquor. You also see many people stopping by here to buy discounted alcohol to keep their Roppongi buzz going without paying the steep drink charges at some of the clubs/bars nearby.
