Refreshing and easily taste. Good for kids and women too.

Ramen shops have come far since the 80s, when many places around town had the ambience of a small, empty public hall: colorless, humorless, and largely aimless. The«portable» B&W television«box» perched in the upper corner provided moderate entertainment for patrons who weren’t interested in the collection of soft porn mags under every table. The ramen shops and tastes of the 80s and early 90s seemed to have hit their peak, and perhaps long before that. The art of ramen, however, was eventually captured by a new generation of young hipsters, apparently keen on bringing quality taste to to the market. And the result has been astounding. Afuri, situated in Azabu Juban right along the shotengai, is a stellar example of the excellent quality that has hit the streets in recent years. Provided you can navigate your way through the multiple choice vending machine and manage to order what you actually want, the rest of the dining experience is great. I highly recommend the Yuzu Shio. Hat tip to the dude with the uncommon idea of fusing lime into a bowl of ramen because the result is as incredible as it is unexpected. The flat panel HD screen featuring snowboarders on pristine slopes in some exotic location is a nice replacement for the Sumo highlights featured on the TV box years ago. Although the counter space and stools aren’t built for 6 feet tall gaijin, you’re only gonna be stuck there for 20 – 30 minutes anyway, so let that one go. I will definitely eat there again

Have been waiting for good ramen in Jyuban for a decade! Finally, prayers have been answered. Yuzu tsukemen is epic; sweet and yet salty and tangy. The noodles are firm and delicious, never over-cooked. The pork is just the right balance between fatty and stick-in-your-teeth chewy. Bonus: they are always playing sports videos on the widescreen tv; surfing, snowboarding, etc.

When I heard this«Yuzu(Lime like Japanese citrus)» flavored ramen, I thought it’d taste disgusting. But miraculously, this blends so well. So well that I’m quite addicted to this taste. Sure old fashion heavy pork Tonkotsu flavor should be «it» for most of ramen out here in Japan. But this miraculous innovation is definitely must try. I even thought that it’d spit to «love and hate» but so far all my friends I took here all loved it. «Yuzushio ramen» Check that shit out.
