(5⁄5 stars overall) Unilocal 100 Challenge 2016 — 17⁄100 Thanks to Unilocal for introducing this première example of Japanese culture through an Elite +1 event held at the end of 2015. Tonight a small group of us, many who attended before, decided to use the special coupons we received to pay Tamachan another visit. As the event menu was a sampling of their menu, we took this opportunity to dive into the full regular fare. Along with true blue Osaka okonomiyaki(Japanese style pizza/omelette made on a large flat grill), they have a great selection of bar foods that are guaranteed to be tasty and keep you thirsty for drinks to wash it all down. Unilocalers being picky about quality and value, we went with the middle tier full course(¥4300/person). Eight course meal — woot! More on the in the summary. Highlights: — Menu: 5⁄5 stars(authentic offerings of dishes from Osaka — meats, veggies, okonomiyaki, kimchi, etc.) — Atmosphere: 5⁄5(can get a bit noisy if there’s a full house in attendance, and the do pack people in, but after the first drink, who’s paying attention anymore?) — Quality: 5⁄5(all dishes prepared and presented with loving care. They give a lot of attention to creating appetizing and colorful presentations. Of course, they’re all very tasty too!) — Service: 5⁄5(excellent timing on the delivery of each dish; drinks were rarely left empty; we had extra bonuses in this area(see below) as well) — Access: 4.5÷5(about a quick five-minute walk from the north exit of Nakameguro station — a bit tricky so use the Unilocal app to guide you) The things we do for Unilocal.Of course we enjoy getting together to meet old and new friends, and tonight was no exception. Our winner of the longest commute went to Daniel G., in town from Hawaii. Either Isao S. or myself got second place, although I think I won it in terms of total commute time. Nevertheless, the objective of connecting businesses with customers was definitely achieved. Yes, we want to come back! Yes, please give us more specials(coupons/free drinks). Yes, we’ll write your Review!(Like I am doing right here, right now.) Osaka has a reputation for being more open, friendly and business savvy than Tokyo and other parts of Japan — definitely validated many times over tonight. We were also blessed with the presence of the ever personable Tamachan himself. Woot — groupie photo time! Good friends, great food, excellent experience — what more could you ask for?

This place is solid. Killer location, delicious drinks, and excellent food. I really enjoyed the Korean flare mixed with that classic Osaka flavor. A great a spot to hang out with friends.

Food at Tamachan’s is fantastic and is very unique. Usually most places serve very generic dishes that you can find in any restaurant. How many ways can you make the same ramen dish in every restaurant in japan… But at Tamachan’s they’re doing something different. And when you find out the unique Osaka Japanese, Korean style cuisine is not only an artist’s rendition of flavors but also a sight to the eyes, it’s really impressive. I didn’t get to stay as long as I wanted to but I was glad to be able to try something surprisingly different in Japan since many of the restaurants seem to lack the creative outlet that Tamachan’s was able to showcase at this Unilocal elite event. Good food, good restaurant. Wish I got to sample for of the food but would definitely recommend this place to the person who appreciates craftsmanship in cooking.
