This is the original shop, started more than 60 years ago. Since it is located along the street side of Tsukiji’s Outer Market lots of foreign visitors come upon it and stop in for a cup. The current head of Yonemoto, Kenichi Yonemoto, runs the main shop. Stop by early in the morning and you’ll usually find him running the show alone. The regulars here tend to be older men, probably from the neighborhood, who sit down, light up a smoke, and pick up their usual coffee and toast. Workers looking for dome thing more substantial may get a hard boiled egg, sandwich or hot dog. In a concession to modern times you can pick up soft serve ice cream or a nice kuromitsu macchiato. Visitors may find his no nonsense style off putting. If you read Japanese you can check out his blog on the company’s website to get a better sense of who he is. At the Honten you will see a sign informing you they have a second shop in the Outer Market. His daughter, Kazuyo, is often at this location running things. Mr Yonemoto’s wife, Setsuko, will move between both shops according to need. Yonemoto Coffee will probably not move to the new market in Toyosu. People like the Yonemoto’s are what makes Tsukiji so special for regulars and visitors alike. They are Tsukiji lifers. But, when Tsukiji is no more, expect to find them at their other location where their coffee is roasted. In the meantime, stop by and have a cup of coffee and toast.

We went to this coffee shop because we heard the drink is good. The shop is all smoking area(both inside and outside tables). We hate smoking so we really regret we bought the drink there. It was a hot day so we wanted to have the drink inside, but we sat one of the outside table. But I could still smell the smoke.

Cute and accommodating. We had 5 people sit outside and the staff purposely pulled out chairs for us. However I thought the coffee itself was okay. Nothing too special to go out of your way for. But if you are dying of a quick pick-me-up. Go ahead and enter the shop
