My first Japan Review!!! Ore No French which means My French. A new chain of restaurants that have started popping up which features Top Gourmet Chefs creating dishes of five star quality and finding ways to reduce the cost by cutting out the normal formalities of five star dining. To normally get a meal of this caliber, you would need to make reservations, dress up in classy evening wear, sit in a nice elegant dining area with white glove service, and spend a fortune just to cover the overhead of the advanced climate system so all the stuck up noses won’t suck out the oxygen from your very less-than-high class soul. To cut costs, they do away with the fancy room. It’s a small restaurant that has about 16 areas to stand. Yes, stand. No chairs. The tables are high bar tables and counters along the wall and the kitchen. The kitchen is open and you can see all the dishes being created by superb French Chefs. No reservations. You have to stand in line before it opens at 4pm and hope to get in for the first standing. Otherwise, they will run out of certain popular dishes for sure. We got there late and had to wait until 5:30 before we got in and they ran out of 3 good dishes already and were low on 3 others. Now once you’re in, you completely forgot that you stood in line for all that time. The atmosphere is dynamic. The medium roar of about 50 people standing in pretty close quarters with the chefs only feet away slaving away at their stations. The décor will probably go unnoticed by most since you are probably just stoked to actually be in this place. I know I couldn’t tell you one thing that was on the wall. We got the wine of choice for the day, a french Pinot Noir. It was good. Not amazing but it did stand on its own. They have multiple selections of wine including some high priced Latours but that will defeat the purpose of this budget french feast. It was only 2 of us so we decided on 3 dishes and got convinced to order 4, which ultimately we paid for throughout the rest of our night. Stuffed. Live and learn. Filet Mignon with Fois Gras served Rossini Style with a Potato Gratin — This was a hot seller and you will see why. It is a HUGE filet(huge for a filet at least) and the fois gras was not stingy neither. And the taste and doneness was spot-on. I couldn’t have asked for a better piece of meat. Great flavor combination. The size of the dish was ridiculous for a French restaurant and the price was ridiculous at around $ 15. Wow. Botan Ebi Carpaccio with Caviar, Avocado Mousse, and Tobiko — Beautifully presented and a light refreshing pre-cursor to the soon-to-be-coming Filet. Fresh fresh fresh and all for the beautiful price of $ 15. If you know Botan Ebi, you know how much this should cost. Fois Gras with Lobster and Truffle sauce — Yikes. This is what we started with. It’s a spread that is served in a bowl with raisin bread. So decadent. I can only describe it but you have to try it to really appreciate the richness of this dish. So amazing and only $ 11. Seafood Medley in a Marinara Sauce — Not saucy and served slightly cold. The Marinara is soaked deeply in the pieces of shrimp, scallop, and clams. The tastes are so subtle and yet so deep, it’s ridiculous. $ 5??? Come on man! So we overindulged but it’s not like I can have this any time I want. I can’t and I have to face that reality. :(Haha. It was worth it. That was the best meal for two for $ 100 that I have ever had, bar none. It would have been cheaper if we didn’t drink so much but who cares, right? No one is driving after and we had a few more places to walk to afterward. What did suck was that we passed Ore no Kappo, Ore no French Table Taku, and Ore no Italian on the way to the next spot. Damnit. If only we had 2 dishes we could have tried another Ore no Restaurant! haha. Bön Appetit! Quick Tip — If you don’t plan on being there around 3:45 or earlier, try to go around 5:15. The first wave of people will start leaving around 5:30 so you will be able to get in around 5:30 or so.
