I’m very confused by the high reviews this place is receiving because I really didn’t find their sushi to be that good. Maybe it’s highly rated because it’s open 24⁄7 and people enjoy eating sushi at 3am, after a long night of debauchery. Understandable. But the sushi was probably the least fresh I’ve had in Japan. I tried many different sashimi, and was thoroughly unimpressed. The only saving grace was the tempura. If you want incredible sushi, I would recommend walking to the fish market just a 15 min. walk away.

The great culinary cities of the world have their quinessential signature dishes: Rome– Cacio e Pepe, fried artichokes Honolulu– Poke w a bowl of rice, Huli Huli Chicken, Plate lunch LA– Carne Asada NYC — NY style Pizza, NY Jewish Delicatessen food Philadelphia– Philly Cheese Sandwich Miami– Cuban Sandwich, Key Lime pie or anything on the menu from Versailles New Orleans– baked oysters, Po Boy sandwiches Paris– confit du canard, baguette et fromage London– Tikka Masala, Vindaloo or the Fish and Chips San Francisco– sourdough bread sandwich, dungess crab, Hong Kong– Dim Sum, Egg tarts, Char Siu bao And in Tokyo amongst all the amazing food one must have S-U-S-H-I My brother(a regular Tokyo visitor) had brought me here after mentioning he had dined here and said the sushi was excellent. As we arrived the place was full and we had a short 10 min wait. We started off with a Tempura appetizer which actually was not very good(served with a small dish of salt) had a decent selection of fried vegetables but it lacked flavour. Then we moved to the main event. We ordered a plate of sashimi and then many plates of wonderful fresh nigiris. We had many mixed plates consisting of: Salmon, Amberjack, sweet shrimp, squid, tako, chu toro, o toro, unagi and many more. The cuts were very generous and decadently fresh. I found the squid a bit chewy and my least favourite. The highlights for me were the chu and O toro. Just melt in your mouth amazing. The tako, salmon and maguro tuna were equally tasty and fresh none the less. Service was very good, quick and attentive. Looking around at other tables everything served looked mouthwatering amazing. It is a very busy restaurant so my advice is come early or rest patient. For 4 hungry guys we were able to demolish just under 17,000¥. For the quality, freshness and feast that we had for the price it was amazing!

Sushi bars in Japan are like taco shacks in LA they’re every where, and like taco shacks in LA almost all of them are really good. The sushi is fresh and the rice is done well. I liked the soy sauce pump bottles so that you can get anywhere from a drop or 2 of soy sauce up to several squirts. It’s very efficient. Sadly the wasabi was powdered and reconstituted. Was hoping for fresh wasabi.

Likely the best sushi I’ve had in Tokyo without going to one of the Michelin starred places. The quality of the fish is outstanding and though its not the cheapest sushi spot it won’t break the bank. Honestly if they just classed the joint up a bit and served the same sushi they could charge a lot more. I’m perfectly happy with how its run now though. If you like tuna there’s a 13 piece platter featuring the standard akami, the fatty chu-toro, and the melt-in-yo-mouth-like-butta o-toro in traditional nigiri presentation, plus a tuna roll. I had this on my first visit and it was well worth the 3000 yen. On my next visit the family and I ordered a ton of individual pieces including the 3 types of tuna, aji, salmon, yellow tail, and a few others, just to get a sampling. It was all good but once we had the o-toro that’s all we wanted and we ended up getting an additional round because it was so good. The service is friendly and efficient, no issues there at all. The two locations I’ve been to have been okay ambiance — nothing special. Not the kind of place I would take my wife for a romantic date. But perfect for some great sushi and cold beer.

If you don’t want to wait in line at Midori Sushi down the street, this place has the same quality of fish without the two hour wait for a seat. Everything is delicious and expertly hand crafted. This is a MUST when visiting the Ginza area!!!

Holy wasabi ! This was our first experience with sushi in Japan, and we came here after sushi midori was no longer handing out tickets. We were seated at the counter — and for a 24 hours place, it was very packed ! We ordered the set platters, and they came with miso soup, and about 10 – 12 different sushi types. The fish was extremely fresh and delicious. Some of the sushi types with sea urchent were a little smelly for my taste, but the rest was good. I would recommend not ordering the platter — but order individual pieces if u know beforehand what kind of fish you like. I need to mention the wasabi ! They only use a little bit in each sushi piece, but it hits u right in the brain ! definitely an experience :) the set menus are a good price, although we discovered later that we enjoy ordering off the menu better because that way we can choose what kind of fish we want on the sushi,

24 hours of a sushi at a valued price; came here with my boss who just flew in, late at night, right before golden week once all other restaurants were fully booked. Although there was another queue here, we were surprisingly seated within 20 minutes– but particularly because it’s 24/7, right by the heart of hibya and yurakucho, they’ll probably(understandably) cross their arms at you in disapproval if you bum around too long… and particularly if you sneak in food from outside. Go for the chirashi bowl!

The sashimi were fresh. The chutoro and uni are really really good, they melt in my mouth. You may want to order the chutoro and salmon aburi which tastes good and fresh as well. They don’t cost as much as those Michelin starred restaurants, but sufficiently satisfied my crave for fresh sashimi! There were a line, of course, for the tables. However, good thing comes to those who wait.

We ate here the most during our trip to Tokyo, first because it was across the street from our hotel, it was inexpensive, and it opened late, 24 hours in fact. The sushi and sashimi here is pretty awesome. All of the fish was very fresh and tasty. You can get a piece of Toro, fatty tuna, for about ¥500(around $ 4) which is completely unheard of in the states, it’ll run you about $ 30+ here or market rate. They spoke very little English here but they have a huge picture menu of everything they have so ordering is not a problem. They have a great selection of beer and even the cooked food was delicious. Highly recommended if you’re looking for good quality authentic Japanese cuisine without having to drop a whole lot of ¥.

Little too much rice on nigiri for me. Quality is star 3 but for the price I can understand the quality. Very busy. More like fast pace sushi restaurant.

Zanmai’s CEO, Kiyoshi Kimura, the«King of Tuna» prides himself on sourcing the finest quality tuna in the sea for his honored customers. Zanmai’s chefs are highly trained and able to handle multiple orders with precision and grace. The Magurozanmai tuna set offers an excellent value for diners wishing to sample all the different cuts of tuna. Each tuna cut is represented by a pair in the set. The main difference is the part of the fish and its associated fat content. Fatty tuna, or toro, has the richest flavor and is incredibly light, buttery, and delicious. Broiled fatty tuna has onions and a little grated ginger on top. Tekkamaki, or tuna roll, is the mildest morsel in the set. It benefits from a little extra soy sauce. Fresh soy sauce is available in traditional and pump style bottles for all levels of seasoning urgency. Medium fatty tuna, or otoro, strikes a perfect balance between the stronger fish flavor of lean tuna and the buttery texture of full toro. Lean tuna, or maguro, has the firmest texture of the set and a mild salt water flavor reminiscent of the ocean. Refreshingly pungent slices of pickled ginger grown especially for Zanmai help cleanse the palette between bites. Not just a sushi bar, Zanmai also offers other food choices to satisfy different tastes. Miso clam soup combines an earthy flavor with lots of fresh clams; the complex cloudy miso broth exudes zen mastery. Chawanmushi is a savory egg custard made with green onions, fresh mushrooms, and steamed soy beans; the crabmeat hiding at the bottom of the cup is a great surprise. Hakkaisan sake is a cool, rice-based alcoholic beverage that perfectly compliments the meal with delicate notes of peach and cherry. We hope that while tuna still swim in the ocean, some of them will continue to find their way to Zanmai’s chefs. So, should you try now? Yes!

Good sushi place recommended by the concierge at the Peninsula in Ginza. It gets quite crowded during the week, we had to wait 45 minutes for a non-smoking table. The hosts weren’t super friendly and there’s a decent amount of smokers in the restaurant which is too bad. We sat at the counter and the sushi chef was very friendly and helpful in taking our orders and not putting wasabi on the sushi for our kids. Fish was fresh, though nothing was too different from what we’d have in California other than not really doing the rolls like they do in the US. Good option for decent sushi though.

This place has been recommended to us by our tour guid. Let me tell you it’s a great recommendation. Sushi here is so fresh, we ordered the variety Sushi plate, tuna bowl and blue fun tuna hand roll. Everything is up to my taste. Service: quick efficient always smiling. They have some English speaking servers which are hard to find around town. Menu has English translation which is a plus plus… Finally Menu also has a bunch of pics Miso soup: best in town Good beer variety Price is very reasonable. Convenient location walking distance from train station.
