Just so so. Sashimi was ok, but could have been fresher. Unagi sushi excellent. Yakitori, very mediocre after spending much time in Osaka. Needs to marinate longer. Very nice place, just not as great as it could be.

after trying three sushi places in Amsterdam this one by far has been the best. and I thought the prices were totally reasonable. they have a very small place and they turned some people away because they were so busy but they tried to seat as many people as possible without reservations. we had several basic sushi rolls and they were all good. I don’t know about any of the cooked food.

I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and didn’t have trouble getting a table without a reservation early on Sunday evening. Service was prompt, which is always a nice surprise. The yakitori(menu A) was a delicious assortment of skewered bites of charcoal grilled meat. The salad and miso that came with it were both excellent. When I looked at the menu I thought the yakitori would be a few dainty bites of each item. It was so much food that it was served in courses. There are a few salads that look good, and I will have to try the sushi.

Not fancy at all but really nice. It’ll be my eating spot during my PhD adventure in A’dam. Good service!

Good sushi. We had a nice time. There are fancier places, but if you want good sushi without the fan fair this place is great. We will be back next time we are in town.

WOW — all I can say is, you won’t go wrong with this place. Excellent sushi, friendly service, and a convenient location. I especially liked the unagi and the miso soup was very flavorful compared to others I’ve had. The quality of sushi was excellent and all at a very reasonable cost, too. All in all, a great experience!

I think this will be my go-to Japanese restaurant in Amsterdam. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the kushiyakis are on point. The sushi rice was a little mushy, but the sashimi was super fresh and they have a variety of choices on the menu. I think I will try their bento box next time… Other than that, be sure to make a reservation, especially if you’re coming on the weekends!

Nice little place, Japanese owners, nice and helpful staff. Good quality sushi(best eel sushi ever, with such a «perfect temperature»). Good value for money.

If you are looking for a great place for Japanese food I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I have been going there for years and have never been disappointed. The salmon dish is wonderful. Be prepared to wait for a table if you get there past 19:00.

Great Sushi and cooked japanese food in Amsterdam. It is pretty hard to find legit sushi in europe, and this place delivers on your expectations. I have been there about 20 times and each time is better than the next. I highly recommend the dragon roll, and the scallop and the filet skewers. Service is good, but keep in mind it is a tiny little place and they are almost always very busy(since they are only open for dinner) so patience is key. :) If you are looking for«a safe bet» on good food this place is definitely a try. It is tucked away on one of the small streets on leidseplein. Also– for what its worth, it is SLIGHTLY more expensive than your average sushi place, but then again, the quality is worth it here. I don’t think its overpriced, b/c I have yet to be disappointed. It’s always fresh.

They have EVERYTHING. Seriously, don’t even look at the menu, they have everything. I got a assorted box for 26 euro and couldn’t finish it. The sashimi were like 3oz each slice. More like slabs of fish really. The salmon was very fresh without any fishy taste at all. If you like sushi or any Japanese food and are in Amsterdam, go here. seriously.

A fellow Unilocaler suggested I try the Japan Inn, thank you Philippine, and I was very happy I took the recommendation. Very tasty, casual and good service. The Chicken liver skewers were fantastic. Very tasty Unagi bowl, nice fresh Ikura Tasty and reasonable, I will be back

Good. I would go again. I just had a dragon roll, a chicken skewer, and a beer and it came to 20 euros, so it was definitely a good price. The food was fresh, the place was clean, the service was adequate. The décor is nice. Nothing spectacular, but nice. If I want sushi in Amsterdam again, I will probably go back to this place.

I have never seen a worse sushi bar in Europe, the waiter was rude, the sushi was not tasty at all. Really upset about this inn.

2⁄3 stars for the sushi 5 stars for the«kushiyaki»(grilled meat/vegetables on a skewer) Like any other Chinese owned Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam the sushi is so so at best. I’m convinced that people in Amsterdam don’t even know what real sushi is supposed to look like. Bad sushi: On a nigiri sushi the rice is as long as the fish, the rice tastes too sweet, the fish comes out of a freezer, the soy sauce is super thick and sweet Chinese soy sauce put into real Japanese Kikkoman bottles that they keep refilling with their unsuitable soy sauce for sushi and besides, most westerners submerge their sushi into the sauce which completely ruins all flavors. BUT the kushiyaki, the grilled dishes, are absolutely GREAT! Yakitori: marinated boneless chicken thigh meat on a skewer. Tsukune: ground and seasoned chicken meatballs on a skewer(my personal favorite). Shishamo: whole grilled roe fish. ikayaki: marinated and grilled squid. And a lot more! Also check out the unagidon, marinated grilled eel on a bowl of rice. Even my cousin who hates fish loved this dish! You absolutely have to try it! You won’t regret it. I usually order a small bowl of rice and lots of kushiyaki. I usually spend about 20 to 25 euro including a glass of coke and I’m completely full.
