A beautiful and cozy café, especially during a chilly evening in December! We stopped here because my dear friend had a bladder that was about to explode. When in Paris, do not even stop anywhere to use an establishment’s restroom unless you are prepared to truly be a paying patron there. And… Don’t go up and speak English right off the bat. Americans are well-known for doing this, and I’m saying this as a fellow Yankee. My friend ran in and asked in plain English if she could get a tea to go, because she wanted to sprint to the bathroom. Well, the man who greeted her would have none of this Insular Germanic gibber-gabber in his place of business and gave her a curt, «Non!» Luckily, we had a native in our midst and as soon as AT came in and asked politely if we could have a table to drink tea, the man transformed into the most kind and hospitable person ever to walk the face of the planet. Truthfully. Furthermore, I was hanging outside like an orphan because I had my cup of Berthillon ice cream from another place and he welcomed me in to escape the cold. What?! Yes, all of this is indeed a true story. Anyway, my lovely, English-speaking friend got to use the bathroom and we browsed the menu to see what kinds of tea Pain d’Epices served and were all quite excited to try different ones. I got an almond black tea, which was quite yummy(though not as good as this Almond Biscotti one that hails from none other than Tampa, FL). Regardless, we had a great time enjoying an evening tea hour with friends and saw people of all walks of life in there, from young couples, to college friends debating, to a family that looked like it had its origins from the Maghreb region. Cute tea pots with cups and tea strainers made for what felt like an authentic teatime. Come by if you like tea or maybe you can grab a couple scoops of the famed Berthillon ice cream that Paris is known for, also served here.

This has such a comfortable and inviting café atmosphere. Wi-fi, great coffees, wonderful wine offerings. It has the best French onion soup that we had while we were in Paris(we attempted many, most at double the price, but not as good). While you are sitting there, school children may stop by for an ice cream to-go. Mothers are there with their children. Young couples, who speak a variety of languages, are texting and making plans. A very cozy and welcoming café ambiance.

Got some ice cream here, nothing fancy. But you have to see the L’ile of Saint-Louis which this place is located on.
