The inn is now only for group rentals. It is perfect for that. It is a rambling old New England mansion by the sea. The rooms are small with hallway baths, but there is a lovely common area and a front porch to die for. The porch is on the shady side of Short Sands Beach, one of the most adorable places in the World. It is all about location and this is one of the best. There is easy access to Long Sands Beach, Nubble Lighthouse, the York Zoo, and Short Sands Village. It is a short and very lovely drive on the Shore Road to Oqunquit Beach, Perkins Cove, and the Marginal Way cliff walk.

Beautiful, clean, charming, and not the price of my firstborn child — it’s basically a miracle for peak-season vacationing in Maine. The Katahdin Inn just saved my girlfriend and I after we had a last-minute change in plans during our vacation whereupon I decided that camping just wasn’t going to cut it. We called ahead and found out it was only $ 95/night for one of their basic rooms with a shared bathroom. Even though we show up at midnight after being caught in a lighting storm in Portland, the very sweet owners welcomed us in to the cutest inn room I think I’ve ever stayed in. It was complete with an in-room petite sink and full bathroom down the hall — it was perfect. The building and location are outstanding. We plan to come back for a longer stay. Best deal you’ll find in the area!

I had a lovely time at the Katahdin Inn in early June. My bed was pressed up against a window looking out onto the«short sands» beach. Early in the morning, as the sun was thinking of rising, I woke up, rolled over and dozed in and out while I watched the impressive changes of the York beach tide. Quiet, fun, clean and cute little house-hotel.

This review is solely related to making a reservation. I was hoping to visit friends in York and found the web site for this Inn. I called and got an answering machine. No biggie. The Web site says«We check our e-mail every day, but not every minute» so I sent an email explaining what I was looking for. This was on a Friday morning during peak season They’d get to it — right? Wrong. More than 24 hours later I got an email from someone named Heather telling me to call for reservations. None of my questions were addressed. Fine. I call the next morning — Sunday — and again get the answering machine. This time I left message, my phone #(twice) and mentioned that I had sent an email explaining what I was looking for. That evening, after getting no return call or email, I emailed Heather asking for help. How do you reach these people? Was there some crisis underway preventing the return of phonecalls or e-mail? Well it is now Monday evening — no call and no email. So forget it. Reviews indicate a fairly pleasant experience. Just know that if you have a hard time making a reservation, it’s not just you.

The Katahdin Inn was pretty nice. I spent two nights there in Mid May when I was in a friends wedding up at the near by Cliff House. Anyhow the the lady who ran the place couldnt of been nicer. The building itself is beautiful. Its a nicley painted victorian house facing Short Sands Beach and the open ocean. The Inn is a friendly Yellow with the accents on the house painted up nice in other colors too. The room and the rest of the place were very clean and the bed was cumfy. All night long I could hear the ocean which is an unusual treat, and it was pretty reasonable and I even remembered thinking at the time that the rates they charged peak season were a good deal too. If I visit again I’m definitely gona bring a lady friend. It was a lovely spot. And Short Sands is pretty happening in the summer.
