Oshima Japanese and Tex-Mex Express

Most random combination ever, but the Mexican food is top notch, and they are very quick with their deliveries.

Been ordering delivery and takeout for many years.
Great prices and fast service.
Food is always fresh and consistent, generous portions with exception of sauces (I keep sour cream in my fridge because of it)
The sushi and tex-​mex items are all excellent.
Quick delivery– standard answer when I ask «how long» is 35 min, but my experience is more like 15 – 20 min, and I’m a car ride away.
Be careful to check special orders, I’m allergic to jalapeños and the kitchen often gets it wrong even if the person who takes my order gets it right (there is a definite language barrier between the front and the back, not anyone’s fault per se, but the front takes the flack)
I do agree some order takers can be extremely rude, and I have talked to the owner about it. I have also witnessed patrons being extremely rude, and let’s face it, the staff doesn’t get paid to be treated that way. I could see how one rude customer could put them in a bad mood with the rest.
Overall, I love this place!

To the owners and person taking the orders. Please do not wear filthy clothes when your serving food discusting.

2 STARS — due to WTF? customer service!
The Tex-​Mex experience:
I’m torn… At first, I was teetering on a 4 STAR review because I felt pretty impressed with the food. But after several days of thinking on it, I am downgrading & here’s the reason…
I called in the order to pickup. We ordered several items & the girl gave me the total BEFORE hanging up the phone (note the emphasis on BEFORE). When I arrived to pickup, the food was bagged & waiting. I pulled out my money & handed the girl $ 20 (total was $ 17.83). The girl gave me back 2 singles & then asked «is it ok if I don’t give you the 17 cents? I don’t have any change.»… WHAT??? — which is exactly what I asked! Let me get this straight now… I AM THE CUSTOMER!!! I just ordered food from your restaurant & I’m paying for that food! I DON’T take the loss if you don’t have the change! Here’s the part that really pisses me off even more as I’ve been thinking on it. The girl told me the total BEFORE I hung up the phone & BEFORE I arrived at the establishment. Why did she not just tell me to bring exact change? I would think she would have some idea beforehand what was going on in the register! UGH! I’m getting pissed again as I write this because this is NOT good customer service in my opinion. And it wasn’t like a penny or two (which is still NOT a good way to build customer relationships)! So for that stupidity, I can only give a 2 STAR rating which is still being generous I think… Oh, so I said «I’ll just give you the change & you can give me another dollar». She looked surprised! Heh heh! Can’t make this shit up if I tried ;-)
Anyway, food wise, pretty tasty after all that! Tried several things… the enchiladas with chicken were very good. My boyfriend tried the mexican rice with black beans & the chili taco. The taco was pretty flimsy & a little challenging to hold & eat but he said it tasted really good… just a little messy! We also split the Tex-​Mex chili nachos which were also good. We ordered to go & it was a good thing I asked for «extra» salsa cause when we got home there were only 2 small salsa’s & one sour cream for 4 items. I don’t understand why some of these places are so cheap with the sauce… then again, when they don’t wanna give you ALL of your change, that should tell ya somethin’! lol
So the takeaway… tasty Tex-​Mex that should hit the spot if you’re craving it! Just be sure to have EXACT change with you… just incase…

This place is awesome! With my wife out of town, I had take-​out 4 times in one week. Great selection. Super prices. Tasty food. Nice polite people. It’s not fine dining, but they do a great job for a small take-​out joint. Try the shrimp burrito.

The best thing about Oshima is the prices. The food is average. This spot is great if you want to buy a bunch of different items all at once.
Side note, I usually pick up. I got delivery just now and ordered a salad. It’s a salad I’ve picked up before and is pre made in the refrigerator. I realized I ordered too much about 5 minutes after I ordered. I called to cancel the salad they told me I could do that because they already made the salad. That’s petty.

Ordered delivery from here for the first time, my wife and I were very pleased with the order, selection and quality of food for the price. We will definitely be ordering again!

I’ve only ordered delivery. Never been to the location to eat. They are always 15 — 20 minutes later than quoted time over phone. Food is blah… I order for location convenience. I have lots of patience and give everyone lots of chances… we all have bad days. Tonight my food was not fresh. I won’t be ordering from them again. I will stick with Wild Ginger & Haiku in Bronxville. You get what u pay for.

Some of the best food in town both sushi and Mexican. What an odd combo but it works. Try the guacamole nachos.

Always fresh sushi, great customer service. Love this place. Eel avocado is superb, salmon is out of this world. The mexican quesadilla Jack cheese chicken also very good. Ask for the spicy mayo side for sushi rolls, mmmmmm good.

Gotten almost everything on the menu from this place over the years, consistently good food, especially for the price. Highlights are: the Japanese salads, any sushi, any teriyaki, quesadilla, tostada salad.

For a quick fix of Sushi on the go you can’t go wrong. Price is right and made while you wait. Quality is decent for the area although you do have places a little farther away that are better. Eel Avocado, Salmon Skin are really good. Spicy Salmon and Spicy Tuna also very tasty.

The only reason for the one star is to be able to write one. We tried to place an order and because we made a mistake on what we wanted the person on the phone was an asshole. He decided to curse rather than help in getting the order correct. The person claimed to be the owner in the phone if that is how he treats his customer of which I was one since the day they opened then he should not own a business. All i know is that he lost a customer and I will make sure that all of my friends and anyone else is aware of how they treat their patrons. I will be sure to write a letter to the better business Bureau and to the Yonkers Business Department.

I’m not sure why everyone is hating on Oshima. Sushi is very fresh!!! I live over 25 minutes away and I don’t mind going out of my way to get good quality sushi! (ps… There’s a Japanese place literally 7 minutes walking from me and I rather drive 25 mins… Just saying…) Mexican side of the menu is also very good, has a lot of items chipotle doesn’t carry and I don’t have to wait online for 45 minutes to get lunch or dinner. They are very fast and I’m usually in and out. You get a lot of bang for your buck there as well, prices rarely increases. If I had to complain about something it would probably be the parking. If you go there during the weekend there is no parking due to the neighborhood but that’s okay cause they deliver!

Sorry but there Mexican food sucks! It has no taste, no flavor, it’s not worth it! They should just stick to Japanese food and the people who answer the phone are rude in the evening. The worst quacamole I ever had. The delivery takes forever, expect 45 minutes to an hour when you live just down the block.

Great food at a fantastic value. The nachos are really good, eat immediately because they will get soggy. The sushi rolls are good and firm. The BBQ squid was surprisingly good. Ate in there once, the people were friendly and attentive (no waiter service though). Have gotten delivery a bunch of time, the delivery person was always friendly and courteous. Take out service is also good; speedy and friendly. No real complaints about Oshima… def would recommend!

REALLY not sure where all the Oshima hate is coming from. That being said, this review is going to be based on delivery experiences ONLY.
I’ve been ordering Oshima delivery for years. I’ve always been greeted on the phone by the same incredibly efficient, soft-​spoken girl. She speaks perfect English, remembers my address (probably kept electronically), never has an attitude, and always gives me my total at the end.
The delivery person changes, as of June 2014 it’s some big white dude who’s always on time and actually really cool. You see, the intercom in my building is broken, but from downstairs it sounds operational– so to outsiders it just sounds like I hear them and I’m not bothering to buzz them in. He’s never given me guff about it.
On to the food:
Their sushi really isn’t bad at all. Especially considering the price. They run a lunch special from I think 11am-​3pm, TWO (basic) rolls for 5.95, and THREE rolls for 7.95 and you get your choice of (miso) soup or salad. I’ve never gotten the soup, you would have to assume its instant. But the salad is pretty good, nothing mind blowing, CRISP lettuce, couple tomato quarters, and sesame ginger dressing.
My go-​to sushi rolls are:
Philadelphia — Smoked Salmon, Cucumber, and Cream Cheese
Spicy Tuna — Tuna in some kind of spicy mayo
Salmon Avocado Roll — Salmon and Avocado
And a few ones that I don’t want you guys to sleep on:
Salmon Skin
Sweet Potato
(They work man, trust me)
One note I really NEED to make here: *I’ve NEVER gotten sick from their food*
Look, I’m the first person to raise an eyebrow. How can you serve raw fish at the price of two rolls for 6 bucks? The quality of their ingredients are supposed to be reflected in their cost, right? But here’s the thing, I’ve NEVER gotten any kind of food poisoning, and their fish has never tasted or smelt bad. It’s not the best sushi, but between the Sun Xing Gardens, and the Tasty Houses of the world. This may be the best sushi delivery in town.
The Mexican food is pretty good too!
My go-​to is definitely the Steak Taco. Hard shell taco LOADED with Steak, lettuce, shredded cheese, tomato, and served with a side of salsa
BUT If I’m ordering for more than just me I’ll usually go for the Combination Fajita by the Pound. For a little less than 15 bucks you get a (combined) pound of steak/​chicken/​grilled onions and peppers, served with (I CAN’T REMEMBER) 10 – 12 tortillas, a side of beans, and a side of salsa. Those are filling and delicious!
Their steak is really tender, it’s one of my favorite things about this place.
Can’t speak about much else, I usually only go for the sushi lunch special and tacos. Never had a specialty roll or any other entrée.
All in all, this place is a solid 3 Stars for me. It’s the perfect break from all the Chinese and Pizza delivery in this town. It’s safe, cheap, and quite tasty.
I’m not calling anyone a liar about the whole food poisoning– or even about the bad customer service. They’re just sharing their experiences. Now I just shared mine. I hope you’ll give this place a try and share with us your experience.

Ordered last night and the dude who took my order was a COMPLETE and TOTAL dick. Now, I’m always very friendly and polite when talking with servers as I’ve worked in the restaurant business as a waitress, hostess and counter girl for about 7 years. Therefore, I know what it’s like when someone calls in with a big order, but goddamn there was NO NEED to be such a douche. It totally killed the mood as it was my friend’s birthday we were celebrating.
I don’t mind that it’s not 5 star. Hell the point of ordering here is to get a ton of cheap food. But whoever was on the phone last night was the biggest scumbag I’ve ever dealt with. Not only was he interrupting me and constantly sighing and not letting me finish my order, when I asked if they had something on the menu he yells, «WE DONT SELL THAT, EVER!» Really? Please go shoot yourself if a fucking question gets on your nerves that bad.
No i did not order jack cheese with a side of attitude. Whatever you’re selling ain’t that hot for you to be a terrible human being.

THE «DELIVERY EXPERIENCE»
I’ve never been in this joint! I had some TEX-​MEX DELIVERED, to an apartment, about 1.5 miles away from their store. It was generally good, and packaged well, so it stayed hot. There was an assortment of appropriate sauces provided. The order came in a half hour, as promised, but I ordered *early* on a Friday evening. ‘Don’t know how they if they get busy.
The girl on the phone was real nice, like everybody says. Wow. You can be an «Internet Star,» nowadays, by answering the phone at a local business really well!?!
PRICES
The prices are good for the local area, and for this type of food.
THE FOOD
The Tex-​Mex nachos were great, but all the beans came on one side of the plastic package, and all the chili on the other. So you had to «make» your own nachos by spooning stuff on them. That’s ok with fajitas, but It was sloppy going with the appetizer. But it was delicious anyway! :)
I liked the little chicken taco, with a nice crispy shell, $ 1.89. I also liked the jack cheese and chicken quesadilla ($ 3.09). The chicken and steak fajita combo ($ 13.99) was good. I preferred the chicken, tho.

I had a $ 4 discount coupon from a junk mail (how I found out about them) brochure, which they accepted.
VERDICT
For me, it’s a good place for a «change of pace» meal. I may try some sushi next time!
