Progressively this restaurant has gotten worse. We have been getting food from here for over 10 years. In the beginning it was absolutely amazing food, but somewhere along the line something changed. Right now it’s on par with a picture menu place. The quality of ingredients has dropped, the attention to detail is terrible, and it just feels like the passion is gone. It’s been over a year since our last visit, and tonight we got takeout and it was rough. My wife’s sweet and sour chicken was dry, overcooked on the inside, spongey on the outside, and missing pineapple. My Mongolian beef looked like it had been sitting too long. All in all it was disappointing. Everything tasted like it had been cooked before and just reheated. Not sure if we will be going back again at this point.

It’s the best Chinese we have found in the triad. We have been ordering take-out from Szechuan Palace a few times a month for the last 10 years. There food is consistently good using higher quality ingredients than most Chinese restaurants. They also hold off on adding sugar which is a NC standard in many Chinese restaurants.

Best Indian Chinese food! Lucas the owner is willing to tweak our order to what we need. Have loved going there for almost a decade.

I ate here at the recommendation of friends who sing its praises. I was not disappointed. I had the Mongolian beef and tasted the scallion chicken and general tso chicken ordered by my dining companions. All the dishes exceeded expectations. Don’t be fooled by its unassuming strip mall location, this is truly a hidden gem in Winston Salem that shouldn’t be missed.

Our 1st time here and we love it. Shredded chicken in Garlic and the Scallion Chicken were both amazing! I can definitely compare it to the New York chineese restaurants we are accustomed to. The lunch specials are fulfilling and economical. The staff is super friendly and attentive, even the cook comes out to check on you. Only gave 4 stars because I want to try more dishes. We will definitely be coming a lot!

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Winston Salem. Also have really good India food as well. The owner is kind and friendly and the staff is great. We have been going here for almost 15 years and do not go anywhere else for our Chinese food. The crispy scallion chicken and Mongolian beef are our favorites.

Above average Chinese fare, but the Thai /Indian is where it’s at. The Chinese part of the menu is a cut above your average strip mall takeout place, but the real action is on the other side, with the pad thais, phở and other goodies. My personal favorite is the chicken tikka masala, which doesn’t come in a cream sauce as you’d expect but is an absolute, sinus-clearing delight of heat and taste. We normally do takeout, but their wait staff is friendly and always available.
Overview: Szechuan Palace is a sit-down, medium to large sized Chinese restaurant close to Stratford Dr on the south-west side of Winston Salem, slightly west of the Hanes Mall and close to the car dealerships. Situated in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The Establishment: Slightly dim but non-romatic, all-indoor, Chinese decorated but not overly gaudy or distracting. Not very crowded whenever I go. Has an aquarium near the entrance to look at if your lunch conversations run sour. The Service: Attentive, quick, polite. The Food: 1) Twice cooked pork — Meh. Small pieces that are not as flavorful as I would like. Smaller portion than the chicken. Drier than I was hoping. 2) Kung Pao chicken — Amazing. Crispy outside, great mix of sweet, sour, and savory, good portion. 3) Mongolian Beef — Amazing. Soft, savory, well marinaded. Conclusions: Szechuan Palace is a nice, sit-down Chinese restaurant that serves delicious and flavorful kung pao chicken and mongolian beef and mediocre twice-cooked pork. It’s clean, the prices are moderate, especially if you come for the lunch specials, and the servers speak English well. I personally think it’s the best Chinese-specific food restaurant in Winston Salem but I have only tried about 4 or 5 so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Terribly disappointing meal. We ordered takeout. On a positive note the service was friendly. We ordered three different dishes. The beef was okay at best, but the two chicken dishes were absolutely terrible. A couple bites and they had to be thrown away. Had we dined in, I would have sent it back.

Another example of my belief that the more unassuming the strip mall, the better the restaurant contained inside will be, Szechuan Palace offers exceptionally helpful service and fresh, delicious food. We stopped in halfway through a drive back from Asheville, tired and needing something more nourishing than the basic road food and were greeted warmly and offered menus, with the assurance that anything could be prepared to our preferences as each order is made fresh from scratch. The menu offers a variety of dishes from meats to vegetables, noodles to rice dishes, spicy to mild, giving a options for just about every diet and palate. Everything looked too good for us to decide so we asked for a recommendation and ended up leaving with chili tofu, a tasty dish of crispy tofu in Thai chili peppers, ginger, garlic and soy sauce with a side of perfectly steamed broccoli and jasmine rice. It may have been eaten on the road, but every bite was enjoyed! The restaurant was empty when we arrived as it was too late for lunch but not yet late enough for supper, but everything was neat and clean(even the decorative fish tank sparkled) and the staff were very friendly, seeming not at all disrupted by our arrival at an odd hour. While we only enjoyed takeout this time, Szechuan Palace is definitely on our list for delicious food the next time we’re in Winston-Salem!

We had the general tso’s chicken and Mongolian Beef. We are not big Chinese Food people but really enjoyed the food. The quality of the food was great it reminded me of p.f. Changs, not typical Take-out. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was decent. The price for dinner was reasonable. I will go back and hope that the quality remains the same.

This is my go to spot for Chinese takeout. It’s hard to spot hidden away in a somewhat older shopping center behind a car dealership. The sesame chicken, vegetable, lo mein and hot and sour soup are my favorites. The hot and sour soup is my sick day remedy and has a good heat to it. I can’t speak for the service for sit down but the cashier is quite possibly the happiest most bubbly woman I’ve ever met. Always a pleasure to stop in.

We decided on this after reading reviews on Unilocal. We had Moo Shu pork. It was the best we have had in a long time. Not swimming in liquid is unusual and so was a pleasant surprise but as we prefer no hint of sweetness in this dish, the sweetness was still less of a note than others we have tried lately. My husband thought the egg drop soup was average and liked the flavor of the crab Rangoon. The hot tea was stronger than I prefer but it was still good. The service was exceptional.

Hidden gem off Healy Rd. Excellent take out and dine in. Try the duck for a treat. Vegetarian options are extensive. The combination Chinese and Indian offers every palate a choice. Dine in menu is more extensive than take out, so try both. Not your typical Chinese take out.

I’d say this is more of an upscale Chinese place compared to the numerous Chinese takeout places in town. Is it the best Chinese food, well no, I’d choose Thai Swatdee next door. It must be hard doing business next to Thai Swatdee as well. The prices here are higher than average, be ready to pay around $ 10 – 15 for a dish. Taste wise it’s ok, not bad but not super. The servers are pretty nice. Oh, one time I left my credit card here and came back 2 hours later and they still had it! So definitely honest people. Ambiance wise it’s standard, better than a takeout fastfood Chinese place but nothing too posh.

We tried the sunday buffet… our recommendation is don’t go. any of the other full time chinese buffet places around the triad is better. the rundown: the egg drop and hot & sour soup was not appetizing. the friend rice tasted like rice with soy sauce. all of the other dishes did not taste like real chinese food. the chinese dounut was not sweet at all. the only vegetarian dish was the vegetable lo-mein and a mixed vegetable dish, and they both tasted bad. they had lots of friend items that were nothing special. the only thing that tasted good was the egg rolls and the roasted potato cubes. this restaurant is the typical americanized food that has a weird taste to it. we both felt nauseated after our meal. we will not be going back.

Been a few years since I’ve eaten here, but since my family and I were in the area(once a year visit to the mall for Santa Claus) we decided on to give it another shot. I’m very glad we did. The service was great with an attentive waitress who helped us decide between a few dishes. An older gentleman also stopped by to tease the kids a couple of times, which was actually nice since our 3 year old was tired and antsy after the mall trip. The manager stopped by as well after the food was served — always a good sign of a well run restaurant. The food was great. The menu was eclectic compared to the other Asian restaurants in the area, with a mix of traditional Americanized Chinese fare, Indian dishes, and Thai dishes. We had fried dumplings(which I can’t speak to the quality of, since my 8 year old ate all of them and I didn’t get to taste one), Pad Thai(a very good rendition, richly flavored with large shrimp), asparagus with black bean sauce(we had originally requested green beans, but the waitress steered us toward the asparagus; I’m glad she did as the dish was delicious), and chili tofu(absolutely delicious, crispy fried tofu cubes dry fried with a nicely spiced chili/pepper coating). We’ll definitely be going back when an Asian jones hits. Hopefully our future visits will be as pleasant as this one. There’s a lot of food to explore on the menu, and it’ll take more than a few trips to work through it all.

This nicely decorated, somewhat upscale Indo-Chinese restaurant has been in this nearly invisible, and rather shabby, strip mall since 1991. It really is much more Chinese than Indian, but I’ve never seen the term Chino-Indian as it relates to food, so we’ll work with what we have. They also offer a few Thai dishes on the dinner menu. The Lunch Menu is fairly compact, with combos, a few Ala Carte items, and Chefs Specials, and is primarily targeted at americanized tastes — meaning much brown sauce, and relatively bland if left to its own devices — and the only factor you can really alter in most Chinese or Indian restaurants is the heat level, and you need to do that here, at least with the entrees. The Lunch Specials, which come with choice of soup and rice, include some of the usual suspects, such as: Chicken Chow Mein, Fried Chicken Wings, Sweet & Sour Pork or Chicken, and even the totally bland Moo Goo Gai Pan — so you get the picture. These specials also include Hunan Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Shredded Pork or Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Twice Cooked Pork, and Spicy Eggplant — all of these have little red peppers beside them — this is a good thing, but if some is good, more is better — if you order these, go to 3 or 4 Stars on the heat level — they’ll know what you’re asking for. The Ala Carte and Chefs Special items include Scallion Chicken(relatively mild without a heat adjustment), Szechuan Beef(too many veggies and that god forsaken sweet, brown sauce — pass it by, heat will not help here.), and Kung Pao Chicken(that’s what I’m talking about — but crank up the heat). At lunch, these come with choice of soup and rice, for $ 6.50 to $ 7.50. The Sweet & Sour Soup here is nice, loaded with heat. The Wanton is simply excellent. The Egg Roll is small and very ordinary. The Fried Pork Dumpling with dipping sauce is outstanding, as is the Fried Rice, especially the Pork and Shrimp versions. The full Dinner Menu is loaded with possibilities, including some interesting Indian & Thai options, a variety of Hot Pot options, Pad Thai, Manchurian Specialities, and Thai Curries. You can order anything on the Dinner menu at lunch, at the dinner price. The folks here are friendly, efficient, and helpful. The owner is always around, and will visit your table. There are some good things here, there are some bland things here, but most importanly there is potentail here, given the right dish, and the proper heat level. This requires some experimenting, and some effort — may well be worth it.
