This place is a little weird, the lighting is super dark, and he server while nice, is a bit eccentric. I only come here for the buffet lunches, and compared to Nawab, it is less superior. However, I did come back a couple times because the lunch buffet here is a good $ 4 – 5 cheaper than Nawab. Usually when I come, there is only like 1 or 2 other tale dining, and we come at prime lunch hours over the weekends, so this is a bit strange. I wonder if this place gets much traffic at all. The buffets are okay, it can use a couple more selections, just a salad, a rice, some curries and chicken masala and some yogurt dissert. I do like that they bring out roasted red chicken drum sticks to you like when you go to American and Italian places they bring bring to you after you ordered. This is overall pretty good if you want unlimited Indian food for lunch, but they could use more work for the ambiance. I would say Nawab is definitely better, taste and ambiance and just overall experience, but it is more expensive.

Still not happy with the service, but the food here really is better than any other Indian in the area. The last time I went, a group of Indians from Raleigh were there, and they told me that they ate at Turmeric every time they pass through, because it’s better than any Indian they find in Raleigh or Charlotte.

I’ve eaten here last summer 2011 and the food was great! Today was a 180 degree turn. Not sure if there has been a change in the chef/staff, but something has indeed changed with this establishment. What a waste of $ 60.00(to go order) that I could have spent on groceries instead. How can u mess up mango lassi? It was thick, but not creamy and had a strange sour after taste(trashed it along with the 3 entrees) Needless to say, I was highly disappointed.

Good, but my Korma was not as flavorful as I would have liked. It needed a bit more spice, but the service was terrific. My friend’s dish was excellent.

I started coming to Tumeric early this year and really enjoyed my experience and the food. They do a pretty good job of keeping the food traditional and if you want some extra spice they add it well(especially in the kebabs!). I used to bring my classmates as well. Unfortunately, the last few months I’ve definitely noticed a decline in their food quality. I’m not sure if they switched their chefs or changed their ingredients, but my wife and I have been disappointed the last few times–

Based on the reviews here, we went to Turmeric to give it a try. We were pleased by the food, but not blown away as we were expecting based on the 5 star reviews here. The service was timely and attentive. The menu is HUGE! The food is good, but not a slam dunk in my opinion. I had the Turmeric Chef Special Plate and my wife had the Thali. We figured that we couldn’t go wrong ordering these two things in an unfamiliar Indian restaurant. Both of our meals were well prepared and tasty, but the only adjective we could muster afterwards to describe the food was that it was *DIFFERENT*.

I second this– Turmeric is almost as good as some of my favorite curries in London. Works for veggies and non-veggies alike. Spices tend to be Southern rather than Northern– even the northern mild lamb pasanda got a Southern redo with star anise and some kind of spice that tasted like szechuan peppers. This was delightful, actually. They also have fabulous dosas(Indian crepes) and Uppuma which is kind of like Indian comfort food– a savory polenta or cream of wheat. And yogurt rice(also savory comfort food). I also like the ground lamb keema(usually a northern dish, but here it gets a southern update with ginger) and the paneer keema(ground cheese, peas and spices). Their mango lassi is made from scratch with real fruit, not frozen juice. And the proprietors are nice and will remember you when you return, again and again.

Turmeric offers very good Indian food in an unsuspecting location. Since Kabab’s(downtown) closed, Winston-Salem has seriously lacked good South Indian options. With Turmeric we have them again. I can’t speak to their Northern cuisine, since I get a variation on the dosa each time I go, but what I’ve gotten has been fantastic. Though the wait staff can sometimes be a little slow, they’re very considerate, even offering to turn down the music if they suspect it’s a little loud. I highly recommend this place!
