My 1st time here with the wife. This is sort of like a Panerai or Jason’s Deli only 5x the size. Their is outdoor seating available which is great on beautiful days. As soon as you walk in you will see the menu board with a vast selection of awesome Salads & Sandwiches along with chips and desserts! The prices are mid range but you will be happy with the portions sizes on the salads! We shared a Shrimp Po’ Boy. The hoagie bread was fresh, warm and perfectly toasty. Sliced tomatoes, pickles, onions & lettuce with your choice of side(fresh fruit was refreshing) and some cocktail sauce for those who like it. The Shrimp & Avocado salad came in a bowl big enough for 2, with grape tomatoes, arugula, feta cheese in a vinaigrette balsamic dressing. It all felt like it just got picked fro. The garden. The soup of the day was a mild crayfish with a hearty amount of the sweet meat in a large bowl for 2. Do they forget to go to the small table with other ingredients to add to your food like croutons, bread sticks & fresh roasted tender garlic!!! Your order is brought to the table after you place your respective # on display, place is clean, staff is friendly and great!

This place is a great for lunch. The food is fresh and doesn’t feel heavy. Salad portions are huge, but they have to go containers that you can just grab yourself. I’ve had the ahi tuna salad and the kale salad. Both were delicious with unique flavor. Place kind of gives off a panera and mcallister’s vibe, but I think I might like this place better. The menu is located as soon as you enter the café and has so many options. It was kind of over whelming for me when I went for the first time, especially because there was a line of people waiting to order food. They have condiments for you at no extra cost such as breadsticks, pickles, roasted garlic, etc.

I went here for lunch today with some friends and it was delicious! I got the Newk’s Club with a caesar side salad. The sandwich was really filling and flavorful which I loved, and the salad was good as well! The salad had homemade croutons in it which definitely contributed to making the salad all the more better! What I like most is when you first walk in, they have the menu in this poster board setting so you can order and pay right up front BEFORE sitting down. Then they give you a number card to put on this stand so the waiter can see what table the order is to be delivered to. The staff was really friendly, and I enjoyed the service. They also have gourmet cakes, brownies, and other baked goods for sale as well. There was also a nice salad bar as well, but I didn’t get to try it as I was satisfied with the meal I had gotten. I also loved the cup they gave me for my drink as it’s a souvenir cup so I can use it forever. This is a great place to go for lunch, and rivals that of McAllister’s or even Panera Bread! It’s a must try in the Winston-Salem area!

I stopped in here for lunch with the family. I’m from WS but don’t live here, so I enjoy trying all the new restaurants in the area. I was intrigued by the menu and the fact that everything is made to order, and seeing things like white bbq sauce and crawfish on a pizza convinced me that they don’t rely on super-traditional food. I had the Newk’s Q and it I enjoyed it. I wasn’t blown away by the portion size, but it tasted good. It tasted fresh, and overall I was pleased. Menu: New takes on classics, not too many options, not too few. Just about right. Food: Everything I had was tasty. Other than desiring a slightly larger portion, food was as expected and tasty. Atmosphere: Now this is where I can say there’s lots of room for improvement. The dining room was dirty. Food, wrappers, and trash under many tables and random spots on the floor. Many tables were left un-bussed for the duration of our meal. There was a table near the restrooms of employees who were likely off the clock, but still in uniform. This to me reprsents a lax approach to managing what could otherwise be a great place to eat. Mix that with failing to properly execute a fundamental restaurant edict; a clean and kempt dining area, left me unable to review higher than 3 stars. I am likely to return, but if the dining room is still dirty and untidy, I would not return a third time.

I passed by Newk’s on many occasions based on the corny signage they have on anes Mall BLVD. However, I was sold after my first visit and wished I stopped sooner. They have many great salads, soups, sandwiches and other items to choose from. All items are made fresh and can be customized to your likes. The staff are always friendly and able to answer any questions. The restaurant has always been clean. They have a kids menu that is just as good as their main menu(I took a few bites from my kids) although my 9YO son felt the kids pizza was too small. All of their salad dressings are home made and so far the ones I have tried have been good. I do get them on the side so I can add dressing to my liking. The have many condiments available in the dining room that you are able to add to your order at no additional cost including bread sticks for your salad. Give it a try.

It’s a shame that I can’t highly recommend this place since the food is inconsistent — based on who prepares it(I determined). In the past, I’ve typically ordered similar dishes(creature of habit). At Newk’s it’s either a great presentation and delicious or either less appetizing & lacks flavor. Both a bummer, because I really want to like this place. I really want to give them my business, but crossing my fingers until my food arrives can’t become a ritual. The menu is great(salads, soups, sandwiches, personal pizzas). It’s convenient to run in and get a quick meal. Until it’s consistently consistent, I’ll always be a little apprehensive about stopping — sigh.

Love this place. Went two days in a row. Sandwiches are fresh & delicious. The bread is what makes it. It’s toasted on a baguette type of bread where it’s crispy on the outside and soft, warm and chewy on the inside. So far I’ve tried the Chicken Pesto and Roast Beef Sandwiches. I would definitely get both again. I was worried about the Chicken Pesto being dry when I first saw it but turned out to be moist and juicy. They run about $ 8-$ 10/sandwich meal but it’s worth it. As for the Salads, I’ve only tried the Simply Salad so far which is their basic salad but it’s a good size. The coleslaw is OK. Not vinegary which I like but also lacking some flavor. Mac & Cheese is legit so do yourself a favor and get at least a side of it. And make sure you don’t leave without getting yourself a Whoopie Pie. The«To-Go» sandwiches look really good too, especially the Roast Beef sandwich(non-toasted). Definitely making Newks a regular spot.

The sandwiches here are really good. I have never had anything bad here. The soups are also a good choice. Especially in the winter time we you Ned to get warmed up.

My food was great as well as the staff. Very friendly and helpful because I did not know what I wanted. I got the Newks club and Newks Q. You can get half and half. I also filled up on the crackers and pickles as I waited on my food. Great deal huh???

Big fan — consistently good. The fact that my husband gets confused and refers to this restaurant as «Twerks» makes me laugh. Lots of menu items. Salads are the best thing — pizzas are a close second. They have awesome chili(during the winter months) as well. Pizzas are $ 8 — $ 9, and a good size. I usually eat four pieces and take home 2. Salads are huge! They are really good about leaving off things you don’t like and often offer to sub something else when you request something be left off. There’s a table set up with really nice condiments — banana peppers, fresh croutons, bread sticks, hot peppers, pepper flakes, two or three different kinds of hot sauce(no Texas Pete though — sad face). They give you a nice large plastic cup that can be reused when you order a drink. Only complaint I have is that once they bring your food, you don’t see them again — its not really like a wait staff. Its an order at the counter, sit down and wait for your food delivery and that’s it. Of course drinks are self-service and even the to-go boxes are on the condiment table, but a little checking back might be a nice touch. The staff is extremely nice though. I’ve never been disappointed here with the food though. Good stuff. So give«Twerks» a try. :)

Oh Newk’s. I gave your sandwiches another chance aaaaaand you kind of blew it. Apparently changing up anything to your order throws them completely off… So my taste of Newk’s, months ago, we placed an order from their take out menu and I ordered a sandwich… I don’t remember seeing on the menu that the sandwich would be toasted. So I get what I thought was going to be a cold sub, as a warm, soggy sub I had to choke down. Perhaps that was my mistake and it said they were toasted on the«to go» menu… I don’t know. So today all the ladies from work and I went to Newk’s for lunch. I decide on another sandwich, the club this time, but I specifically ask for it cold and have red onions added to it. What was brought out was a cold club, with the meat and cheese, bacon and onions but NO lettuce or tomato. So I went up and ask for just a plate with some lettuce and tomatoes to add to my sandwich, no big deal. A manager overheard so he said they would just remake the sandwich for me.(BONUS! Extra food. Haha). My new sandwich was brought out: a cold club: meat and cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion… NOBACON this time.(Sigh) So I guess changing up your sandwich in any way is at your own risk. Sandwich was still ok. I don’t know if I would have another sandwich at this place though. I do have to comment on the salads though… I totally wish I ordered one! They are HUGE! I saw many customers eating beautiful salads out of these big red fun bowls! Even though I have been a little disappointed with my Newk’s experiences thus far, I want to give them yet another chance. Next time will be a salad, probably the Greek or Cobb! Staff were friendly tho. :-) Prices were ok… Similar to like Panera or Jason’s I’d say. Pretty average. I think sandwiches are like $ 7.69. Salads maybe $ 8-something. Oh yeah, I have also had their pizza in the past. Our manager ordered a few for lunch at work. They are pretty small. Almost a «personal» size. I could have probably finished one all by myself but we had 6 people to split them with. Thin crust. Tasty but small.

I am in love with their soup and macaroni and cheese! The macaroni reminds me of home. They do have a table set up with pickles, breadsticks, etc but at first it was very confusing. The breadsticks are rather flavorless and bland but the food itself is delicious! I love the take home cups too because it reminds me of them and being so close by, I enjoy it very often. It’s casual and laid back and they send coupons in the mail too! The salads are huge but delicious as well.

Wow! Totally surprised at this place. Our family is new to the Southeast and had never heard of Newk’s before. Walked in not knowing what to expect, but found decent prices and great food! They have a huge variety of choices and a great kids menu. We had the pizza(so good!) and the kids loved the skinny breadsticks as a snack while waiting for their food. Would definitely go back!

This place is a favorite of my husband. I recall after his first trip, he came back raving like he just went to Disneyland. I think the excitement centers around 2 things, the condiment bar and the huge, bottomless glasses of decent iced tea. I have grown to also like this place, even though it is a bit restrictive to those that like to eat on the healthier side. Every time we visit, I go for the combo of a side salad with the veggie club, both sans cheese and both are quite good. I enjoy the combo of roasted peppers, portobello mushroom and pesto. The previously mentioned condiment bar allows me to further fancy up my sandwich with siracha, roasted garlic, and pickled jalapeño rings. Newk’s also offers house made pickles on the bar that are fabulous! Last time we visited, I tried the white bean and kale soup, which was very tasty, but only offered on certain days and not on Saturday when we typically visit. We have always had consistently delightful experiences here, with good food and service.

We decide to eat here the other day; I can say it is a middle of the road eatery. There are a wide variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and a couple of really good looking mac n cheese dishes. We tried a Cuban sandwich and a bowl of chicken Tortilla soup and a Royal sandwich(salami, turkey, ham, roast beef, Swiss cheese) and a bowl of Chicken sausage gumbo. The sandwiches were pretty good but what stood out was the bread. It was really good, tasted very fresh. The soups were decent, the gumbo being much better than the Chicken tortilla, which my lady proclaimed as being not very authentic and very artificial tasting. If we ever go back I want to try that 4 cheese or the pimento and bacon mac n cheese. Bacon makes dang near everything taste better!

We ate here for lunch after church today. Even though we arrived when it was busy, we quickly moved up in line to place our orders. I wanted to order half a sandwich and soup, but they were all out of chicken noodle soup. Considering it’s a cold day, I was really sad. Since none of the other soups appealed to me, I ordered half a sandwich with a caesar salad. When the food arrived, it looked good. The caesar salad was good, but had a little too much dressing on it for my taste. My half of Italian sandwich tasted good. It just wasn’t made very well-half the meat was stacked on one side, and the other half of the meat was stacked on the other side. It should’ve been stacked evenly, in order for all the flavors to come through at the same time. Not a bad place for a quick sandwich. We will have to try it again.

I’m new to the Winston and I’ve become a fan on Newks. Been there twice now and each time I’ve ordered a sandwich with a side. Both time the sandwiches were awesome. I order the chicken salad sandwich with a side of pasta salad. It was perfect since I only wanted a light lunch. Both time I’ve been happy with my order. So far I haven’t picked wrong at Newks. I’m a fan

Earlier this month, I received a $ 5 voucher in the mail and so this week, I ventured out to Hanes Mall Blvd to try this place for an early lunch on the weekday. Other than checking out their menu online ahead of time, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. It is much larger than I expected, but it is very warm and well-decorated. When you first walk in there is an area for you to order, either to-go or dine-in. On the side there is the«mix-in» bar(that others have mentioned) where you can pick out all types of toppings: roasted garlic, olives, peppers, pickles, croutons, breadsticks in a package, cherry peppers, capers, as well as an area with pre-prepared goods if you need something quick. I ended up choosing the toasted Italian sandwich to-go, which came quickly and was still warm when I ate it 15 minutes later. It was spicy, salty, packed with a lot of toppings, and quite good. The only downside was that by the time I ate it, the juices/sauce had started leaking under the sandwich so it was sitting in a pool of liquid. Given the location(I hate Hanes Mall Blvd), I’m not sure that I’ll come back, but I’d recommend Newk’s to anyone willing to bear the traffic!

I stopped in at Newk’s for a late lunch on a Sunday. I knew I wanted a salad and had enjoyed Newk’s catering at work in the past. When you walk in the whole menu is on the wall and I kind of felt rushed as other people came in and grouped behind me. I settled on the Chef’s salad. I got my number and took a seat. I liked the«mix-in» bar of sorts with all kinds of toppings/additions(croutons, olives, peppers, pickles, etc). My food came in an appropriate amount of time. The salad was huge with loads of toppings. Everything seemed very fresh. The honey mustard dressing had a bit of kick to it that surprised me. I got up a few times to get more water because of the spice in the dressing. The restaurant was clean and the busser was doing a great job checking in on people and making sure everyone was happy. The only negative note involved happenings at the register. My seat happened to be right behind the cashier and when there was no line, the cashier and another employee were talking about working at Newks. Let’s say the conversation was less than positive and didn’t reflect highly on the management. Just left a proverbial«bad taste» in my mouth even if what they were talking about wasn’t true they should know better than to have those conversations when a customer is sitting essentially right beside them. I’ll likely return to Newk’s but will choose a different seat next time.
