New Town Bistro has a nice atmosphere with pretty good food and spotty service. I had been here once before for a Unilocal event, but it wasn’t until my recent trip that I had been for dinner. We came here on a Sunday night and the place was empty. There were literally probably three other tables with customers. You would think this would mean great service and individual attention, but this was not the case. We got waters when we first came in, but it was another 10 minutes before our waitress came back over. She was kind of cold and seemed to have a little bit of an attitude. I realized that we you check in on Unilocal you get a free«dip sampler.» Our server’s attitude seemed to get worse when I showed her this. The«dip sampler» ended up being some hummus with tortilla chips. The hummus was alright, but I found it kind of odd that it came with tortilla chips. I feel like pita bread is normally the complement to hummus, but free is free. For my meal, I ordered the Fish Tacos. The tacos came with grilled Mahi Mahi, mango slaw, avocado, some kind of lime sour cream, pickled jalapeños, and topped with Texas Pete Cha(their version of Sriracha). Overall the tacos were pretty good. The Mahi Mahi didn’t have a lot of flavor to it. They grilled the flour tortillas which I thought was a nice touch. The most disappointing thing about the tacos was the mango slaw. It was completely flavorless and added nothing to the dish. Overall it was a good portion size though. Also, it came with a side of cilantro lime rice, which was a much better addition to the taco than the mango slaw. One thing that really rubbed me the wrong way about the service was that we were not given the specials of the day as we were seated or at any point. We did not realize this until our server listed these off to an older couple that had just been seated next to us. A couple of the specials sounded really good and we honestly probably would have ordered one of them if given the option. This couple seemed to get a different caliber of service than we did, which I am assuming is because they looked like they would be more willing to spend more money. I think this is unacceptable. As mentioned before, the atmosphere is nice at New Town. They have ambience lighting and the walls are covered with local artwork that is for sale. I think that is a nice local touch that helps out the business and the local artist. They also have a little patio outside that would be nice for warmer weather. New Town was disappointing. I would like to give them another shot, because they have a nice atmosphere and had better service in the past. They also have an eclectic menu. I’m not completely scared away, but I’m definitely not as excited about this place as I once was.

Finally came to check this place out since the sampling. I came here really wanting the Banana pudding. Let me tell you, I devoured that thing. Although I don’t get the crispy wafer inside. It was out of place and looked store bought… and it’s soggy right when you get it. They should just take that out and put crispier homemade cookies. Their hummus appetizer here is pretty good too. Good, thick consistency and the bread was soft and thick. The entreé I tried was their special of the day“scallops”. It was just a little over cooked because it was somewhat chewy skin. The size could be a little bigger too, it wasn’t as meaty. The flavor was there though, it was very tasty. Nice restaurant to go to. Oh and as a bonus, their bar/bartenders know how to make drinks. Well my order of Jack and Coke every time I come here was always the right ratio and not watered down.

I had a really great meal at New Town tonight. I came here for a Unilocal event last month and the food and service were just as good. We were greeted right away by a man who I think was the owner. Since we were waiting for others in our party he sat us in a spot were they could see us. Our server was super friendly and talked to us. She was there when you needed her but did not hover over which can be a hard balance. After we ordered she brought our warm bread and dip. Both were good. For my entrée I had their half rack of ribs with cheerwine BBQ sauce. You can switch your sides without an up charge which is nice. It came with coleslaw and I changed to the Brussels sprouts. The ribs were very tender and the homemade sauce was delicious. I would order the ribs again. My favorite side was the sprouts. They were cooked well and still had a bite to them. The slaw was made with red cabbage which was different. It was ok as a side. I would try another one next time. We signed up for their VIP card which gives you freebies and bonuses. It was neat to see a local place do this rather than your typical chain. The desserts looked yummy but we were too full to order one. I also liked how they let us stay and chat rather than make us feel like we needed to leave. Overall great food and service. I will be back.

I’m a fan of New Town Bistro. Being new to the area, my fiancé has been taking me to all the«hot spots» in Winston and I’m a fan of their Fish Tacos. I ordered the Mahi Mahi with mango slaw(it’s so good), fresh avocado, chili-lime sour cream, queso fresco with Texas Pete Cha and candies Jalapenos. They were spectacular. The fish was fresh and the mango slaw was a good compliment to the fish. My fiancé had the hamburger topped goat cheese and bacon. The bread was fresh and she said she like the burger(we’re both fans of good burgers. Our waiter was friendly. The atmosphere is casual. You can’t go wrong going to New Town Bistro

The best restaurant in the area! A great place to stop by with friends and family, but also a romantic place for a dinner date! The hummus is phenomenal. The wide selection of wine and beer are really great. The 421 pasta is delicious! All of this is reasonably priced! One of Winston’s best kept secrets! It’s been there for 18 years!

Another great meal at NTB. We had the Poblano burger and Fish tacos. Both were excellent and we really appreciated the crispy fresh jalapeños. Of course the service was great and drinks were perfect. We always appreciate a visit here when returning to WS.

I had a great dinner at New Town Bistro & Bar last night! I think it is really awesome that they been in business for eighteen years under the same ownership. You know they must be doing something right! When you check-in on Unilocal you get an offer for a free dip sampler. Last night it was chipotle artichoke dip which was quite good, it had a little kick to it but nothing too crazy. We also had a small pasta dish with some sort of delicious cream sauce with it. Of course all the explanation of what it actually was escapes me now. We tried out the spanakoptia egg rolls which were tasty. I actually prefer the nice crispy egg roll to that of the flaky phyllo dough. For our entrée we went with one of the specials of the night which was pan seared duck breasts with cranberry Merlot sauce served with pumpkin ravioli tossed with sage brown butter sauce topped with crumbled smoked feta cheese served with sautéed chefs vegetables. I was really excited to try that dish out and it is the main reason I visited on that particular night. The smoked feta was really interesting on the duck, I had never had that combination before. The duck was served medium-rare and I would have preferred medium, but I didn’t specify and they did offer to take it back and sear on the grill a bit more no problem at all. The vegetables that came with the dish were great, I could have eaten a whole dish of those. They were just seasoned really nicely! I would have liked to try out one of their new cocktails and a dessert but I just didn’t feel like a drink at the time and I was way too full for dessert. Some of the older reviews have commented on slow service and I did not have that experience last night. Everyone was friendly and efficient. I didn’t feel rushed but I didn’t feel like I was sitting around and waiting either.

Located in an unassuming strip mall near HWY421, this restaurant is on the edge of town hidden behind a McDonald’s and next to a fitness center. Only closed on Mondays, this place is great for lunch, large and small parties and even intimate dinners for two. Be sure to start off with a Southern Soul Snack Tray(order 2 for heavy eaters) and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Sunday brunch is the best thing going here. A one-of-a-kind fancy do-it-yourself Bloody Mary bar with numerous garnishes ranging from bacon to spicy seasonings to pickled okra is available for your drinking pleasure. Most entrees are served with home fries and a cup of fruit and are less than $ 12. Adding New Town to your regular dining rotation is a must.

Yes, smoking has been banned in ALL North Carolina restaurants since I was last in New Town Bistro. I promised the owner that I will try his restaurant again and review it again next time I am in town. Please check all Unilocal reviews, especially those that are more recent as they may be more current, before making a final decision concerning the quality of the establishment and current customer satisfaction.

This is consistently one of the best restaurants in Winston-Salem. I am a personal chef, and when I go out to eat, I want to be sure I’m not wasting my time. This is one of our«go-to» places. My husband is a transplant from the north, and New Town put Shrimp & Grits on the map for him. He had reluctantly tried it at other places, but he cannot visit this restaurant without ordering the Shrimp & Grits. It is truly outstanding with slices of portabello mushroom and Texas Pete in the grits. I order something different every time, being an adventurous eater, and I am rarely disappointed. This past weekend, they had a new appetizer on the menu(Corn & Crab Dip). Very good — served with warmed tortilla chips as well as crostini, we could have licked the plate. We ordered two Greg Goose martinis to start, and asked about blue cheese olives. When our drinks arrived, they were garnished with two fat olives stuffed with blue cheese — obviously homemade and delicious. I ordered the Vegetable Strudel which was divine(phyllo crust with spinach, mushrooms, etc) and a side of the brussels sprouts sauteed with bacon and walnuts. Both were outstanding. Hubby got the Shrimp & Grits as usual. The waitress inquired as to whether or not he wanted to double the shrimp. He opted not to, but in retrospect he wished he had doubled it. It came with about 8 — 10 plump shrimp, but if one was very, very hungry, doubling the shrimp would be a good idea. I went for lunch with a friend and ordered the Caprese Salad sandwich served on toasted french bread. I have been craving it ever since and plan to go back this week just for that sandwich. Soft mozzarella, basil and tomato and a basil-herb olive oil drizzled over it all. I could eat it every day. More often than not, Kyle(the owner) is there to greet you when you arrive, check on you while you’re eating, and to bid you goodbye as you leave. Nice touch. We love this place. Highly recommend.
