Great vibe. Nice place to take a date or have a lunch with family. Food is decent, I got the pot roast with potatoes, onions, green beans. The pot roast was seasoned well however was a little dry. Also tried the buttermilk fried chicken with mac & cheese and collard greens which was pretty good. Waiting staff was excellent. However, the food is fairly high priced for the kind of food they have available. You’re basically going here for the vibe not for the quality of the food.

Milner’s is a great spot for a nice dinner: a good spot to take mom when she comes into town, birthday dinners, anniversary dinners, etc… I had avoided coming here because I thought it was very expensive. While Milner’s is a fine dining establishment, it is reasonably priced for the quality of the food. You can easily get an entrée at dinner that is between $ 15 and $ 20. There are a good amount of options on the menu, and if you like fish there are a lot of entrees geared towards that. I got the Arugula-Pecan Pesto Roasted North Carolina Trout with pimento cheese grit cakes. My girlfriend got the buttermilk fried chicken. Both dishes were top-notch. The trout was delicious and a good portion size. The pimento cheese grit cakes were everything that I imagined it would be. The Fried Chicken was good as well. The batter was light and sweet and the chicken was tender. The service underwhelmed us a little. Our waiter wasn’t very personable and just seemed like he was kind of grumpy about being at work on a Saturday night. Also, it took our food about an hour to come out. It’s lucky that they brought us some complimentary bread. Without that the whole restaurant would have been listening to our growling stomachs. I think the best part of the whole meal was the dessert. We went with the White Chocolate & Almond Bread Pudding with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and 2 coffees. The vanilla bean ice cream was creamy and melted over the warm bread pudding. The bread pudding was some of the best that I’ve ever had. It was so moist and light. It also was only $ 7. We’re already planning to make a date out of just going to Milner’s for dessert. You will be full after dinner, but don’t make a mistake and skip dessert. Milner’s has a nice atmosphere and is a more upscale option in Winston. I feel like it is a good balance. It’s a place that you can get dressed up and come celebrate a special occasion, but it is also a place where you won’t feel underdressed in jeans. It’s also nice that they do reservations through Opentable. The service wasn’t great, but the food makes up for it. We’ll be back to Milner’s(especially to give that Bread Pudding a second try).

The first time the food and service were amazing. Then we returned with a group of 8. TThe waiter was clueless refilling water but left us sitting in piles of dirty dishes while waiting for the next course for 45 minutes. The food was still good but cold. The place wasn’t that busy to warrant this type of wait. Hoping the waiter was just new and clueless. It surprised me though that none of the other staff picked up on any clues of lack of service.

The restaurant appears nice and upscale from the outside but this quickly drops off upon entering. There is an unsightly clash of décor, with no particular theme. Tablecloth? Won’t find a single one in here. Odd tile on the wall is present in one seating section. About 15 different kinds of lighting, none of which work well together. There is simply no ambiance. I actually kept looking around for various tchotchkes which seemed like they would be screwed onto the wall like at a TGIF or Ruby Tuesday. If you can overcome all that, the food is above average, though not remarkably so. I had the filet with crabcake. The filet was above average and cooked nicely. The crabcake was seemingly without crab and the flavor was off, way off actually. My wife had the potroast dinner which was good. They forgot our appetizer and we were hardly checked on to see if we needed anything or how our food was. So service was below average. Plates were never cleared from the start, which made it hard to put our entrée plates down for the unsuspecting waitress who delivered our food. We helped hold and reposition things for her so that there was space. Just a letdown. I’m definitely not rushing to go back there anytime soon.

The fried chicken is delicious! The tomato gravy it comes with is so different and unique.

I was not impressed. The food had hardly no taste my steak was over cooked. I went to see what all the fuss was about since Oprah ate there. Many other restaurants have better food for less.

One of the best restaurants in town by far! Great place for special occasions and brunch. I highly recommend the scallop small plate. Great wine list and I love the atmosphere. I’ve been dozens of times and have never been disappointed

One of the best dining experiences we have ever enjoyed! My husband and I were unfamiliar with Carolina cuisine but were visiting family over Valentine’s weekend we were pleasantly surprised! Apparently we love southern food! The fried oysters and crab she soup were the definite highlights in addition to the fabulous service! Thank you!

Walked in on a Sunday night, 15 minutes before they were supposed to close. I realize that’s a faux pas, but I had been driving for 10 hours, and I wanted a great meal. I was not disappointed. Fried Oysters were very fresh and served with a lovely slice of Pork Belly. Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly, and was served with a crab cake and a poached egg. Decadent and lovely. Jazz band played some great standards, and I wasn’t rushed at all. That’s why this place is great. They get it. They care. The food was fantastic. I’m going again tonight.

We here 2 times ages ago, dinner was good — I was pregnant for one visit and I remember ordering OJ w/pineapple juice and I still think of it now and again. Even the OJ was good. Since I’ve been in town longer I have not gone back. Not sure why, one reason is because I heard some horrible stuff that one of the chef’s apparently said about an employee, to her husband and its totally turned me off from wanting to support them any more. Dumb personal reasons maybe, but sometimes that’s enough.

Pretty good food done with a lot of creativity, but pricing seems a bit high, and some of the creativity is mis-guided. For example, a CUP of a gumbo-type soup of the day was priced at $ 8…it was corn, broth, a few other veggies and some meat. Good, but nothing special. Most entrees and other items weren’t quite as rapacious, but certainly no deals here and no special ambience to justify the cost. On the creativity, cinnamon in macaroni and cheese? Creative? I guess. Palatable? Not to this diner… or the three others at t he table. Other items were interesting, but somewhat overwhelming. Outside that, decent meal, served by pleasant servers.

Fabulous southern style food. Food is very tasty if you’re up for a heavy meal. Not a great choice if you want to watch your waistline, so not an abundance of healthy selections. That being said, the food is extremely filling and rich. Great service and fresh ingredients.

Milner’s is one of the very few upscale dining experiences in W/S. If you’d like to take mom out for a special occasion or make a recent graduate feel great, come here. Great date spot too. The food is wonderful. Southern comfort served pretentiously on a platter. Can’t go wrong with the red meat dishes. Lot’s of space for bigger parties too.

We’ve come to Milner’s many times, and have always been impressed. Not this time. This was the first time that it was a huge let down. I’m not sure if they’ve changed management or the head chef, but it was a noticeable difference. Pro’s: –The service. Jason was our server, and we’ve had him before, and he was really good. If you think of something you might want, like an extra fork, more water, etc, it appears before you can even ask. Milner’s continues to have top notch service. –The drinks. Great selection of beers and wines available. –Parking. Parking is easy and plentiful. Con’s: –The food. I’m usually blown away by their take on upscale southern food, but this time was totally underwhelming. My husband had the Frogmore stew, and it was under-seasoned, super stingy on the seafood, and ended up making his stomach upset. My grandmother always orders the trout, and it wasn’t nearly as good this time as it usually is. I got the mussels which were noticeably lower quality than usual, and I asked for easy on the cream but my request wasn’t accommodated. We all got salads and on one of them, there was hardly any goat cheese and pecans, which is the best part. Overall: Milner’s is expensive, and usually worth it. Not this time. I’m hoping it was a fluke and they’ll figure out what’s going on in the kitchen, because I wouldn’t pay the prices they’re charging for the quality of food they are serving.

Went for lunch with a friend yesterday. Last minute decision — she was a bit underdressed and was worried about how she would be received by the staff. Even though just about everyone in the place was in business attire, they never batted an eye at her shorts, t-shirt and pony tail. So professional. Now for the food — we both ordered the Spinach salad with Salmon and poached egg. I love this salad and recommended it to my friend, who loved it as well. It has a sweet lemon caper dressing that complements the bitter spinach and roasted asparagus. Unfortunately, both of our eggs were hard cooked and not poached. I mentioned it to the waitress and within minutes(one or two bites of our salads later) she brought out two beautifully poached eggs on a plate for our salads. Great service! And when you open that poached egg and it filters over the salmon and apsaragus, you’ve died and gone to heaven. I waffle between the BLT salad with fried oysters and this one. Both are excellent. I love that they have brunch items(steaks and eggs, benedict, etc.) on the lunch menu also. I do wish they’d change up the menu a little more often, but what they have to offer is delicious, so can’t really complain too much. Service was great — it did take a while for our salads to come out, so lunch ended up taking about an hour and fifteen minutes, which is a bit long when you’re working and on your lunch hour. But if you wanted to meet a friend and linger, you would love the rhythm of service. I go to lunch here for a treat with a good friend. Its not somewhere I can afford to go everyday(Salmon Salad is $ 14 which is not an everyday lunch price for me). They are doing an excellent job though.

A group of seven of us went last night for my birthday dinner. It’s a great atmosphere and the servers are attentive. We tried a variety of dishes and thought everything was creative and yummy. Try the pecan pie with salted caramel ice cream. I have heard that the fried oyster salad is divine. I need to try it.

Wow, what a great find! Was here for a work lunch with a group of 8 people, one of whom recommended this spot. Maybe it’s because I live in New York, but everyone here was so friendly, there was so much space, the portions were big, and the prices fantastic. Our reservation was for noon, and the restaurant had a few people eating, but was quiet and not too busy. We were quickly seated and left to ponder the menu, which featured so many things that sounded delicious. I had a cup of the Pulled Joyce Farm’s Chicken & Sausage Gumbo and the Grilled Salmon & Spinach Salad. Yum yum yum! The gumbo had a great kick to it and was a great start to the meal. The salad was also good. It felt fresh and I loved the addition of the poached egg. The salmon was a little more oily than I would have liked, but all in all, it was a great meal. Service was friendly and we were able to keep chatting after we finished all of our food. On the off chance that I return to Winston-Salem, I will definitely come back!

Not what I was hoping for. This is a very junior executive kind of place. Conservative, on a highway and a bit stuffy. Food was good, but nothing distinctive. Service was all right. Why is it so difficult to get really good fried chicken in North Carolina. I asked a local for a recommendation, and their answer«POPEYE’S». So on my way to the Raleigh airport, I found a Popeye’s and the chicken was as good or better than anything else I could find in Winston Salem.

All I can say is DELICIOUS. Me and my fiancé decided to give Milner’s American Southern a try for our anniversary. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is nice and very relaxing. I ordered the Scaloppine of Veal with gouda grits, Smoky Mountain Ham, Blackened Green Tomatoes, topped with Lemon Veal Jus. The meal was amazing. One of the best meals I’ve had since being in Winston. My fiancé had the Bacon-wrapped Angus Shoulder Tenderloins with roasted cauliflower, pimento cheese fondue, grilled scallions and hand-cut fries. I sampled a few bites and it was also spectacular. The menu is eclectic and perfect for date night. We are fans of Milner’s and will return to try some of the other awesome menu items.
