Wow wow wow. AMAZING breakfast. The sweet potato pancakes are a MUST. The bacon is cooked perfectly every time. Definitely a brunch MUST during our visits to Wilmington. Thanks for being so awesome, Dixie Grill :)

The staff was nice and the place has a nice feel to it. I came in craving biscuits but always have a dilemma because I try to stay away from meat and the staple is always biscuits and sausage gravy. They offer this, buuut, they also have Dixie Benedict. An open faced biscuit with fried green tomatoes and onion gravy. Loved the alternative!

Came here due to the positive reviews but was underwhelmed. The corned beef hash had so little meat in it that it seemed practically vegetarian. They make a point on the menu that the brisket is house cooked but with just some thread-like shards of extremely shredded meat you hardly knew it was there. So what I ended up with was basically a plate of spicy potatoes with melted cheese and two eggs on top. Not hash at all. To be fair I will say that the biscuits were excellent. We sat near the kitchen which seemed a bit grubby. Saw some onions sitting on a box on the floor below an open sink. Gross. Their health department score is 90 which is great on a school test but not overwhelming for a restaurant, making it one of the grubbier places in New Hanover County. Of over 1,000 places rated by the county health department only about 30 have a score of 90 or lower. So that tells you something.

One of the best places I have ate in terms of breakfast. The best southern grits ever. I am a breakfast lover and eat out a lot and do not give 5 stars easily but Dixie Grill is the best place to eat for breakfast. Go EARLY, long lines. Historical place to eat. A lot of history there. I took my mom there and she loves it. Most people dont know how to make grits but this place hit the jack pot.

Terrible service during a busy sunday brunch. — Asked to leave the bar to make room for people that were eating — Later I waited 30 minutes to be told that they were out of my dish — When the server relucantly brought management to hear our complaint, he basically shrugged and told us that he had been dealing with 400 people and mistakes happen. We didn’t have to pay for the dish that my mother received but meanwhile the ungracious service had spoilt my appetite.

I was forewarned that there is usually a line when they open for business, but was pleased when it took less than 3 minutes to be seated. Very nice, attentive staff. The Louisiana Hash was great. Loads of spices and the combination of seasoned potatoes, onions, peppers, and Andouille sausage were superb. I could smell the cinnamon wafting from my colleague’s sweet potato pancakes across the table. Even though this was only my first visit, I recommend trying this place on for size.

I love this place for breakfast. The hash is amazing and I love it. We have work meetings here every once in a while and the food is always good. The service has always been spectacular and the prices and good. If you want a nice country twist on some classics(Fried Green Tomato Benedict anyone?) then this is the place for you. I have tried most of the menu and I have never been disappointed. Give this place a try if you are in town, its a great restaurant and the people that work there are awesome.

After months of anticipation I finally made it to the Dixie Grill! Nothing short of what I expected. I ordered the Dixie Benedict: fried green tomatoes on top of a biscuit covered with scrambled eggs and vidalia onion gravy. The gravy was amazing and I am not a gravy person. Can’t wait to go back and try more!

Came here Sunday with a group of 5 people around 10:50 a.m. I put my name on the waiting list and asked how long the wait was. The hostess very quickly and confident said 30 minutes. That would have been completely fine and would have made out cruise tour right no time. 30 minutes goes by, 58 minutes in total and my name is called. by the time we sit down and order drinks, it’s 12:05 p.m. Now we are all hoping that this place can turn over tables quick because we have to be at the cruise spot before 1 p.m. Needless to say, we missed our 1 o’clock cruise. As for ambiance, this place is reminds me of a Waffle House where every table is whipped down once over and that’s it. Kinda dirty, old everything, gross bathrooms, and weird aqua booth colors. The food is good. there are a lot of choices and everyone liked their selection. I ordered the Club with onion rings and a side of fries. The sandwich was big and had all fresh ingredients. The onions rings were under cooked, so every bite was a big mouth full of uncooked batter. Pretty gross. But the fries were very good. The waitress forgot a few things and we had to remind her of them. But the place was so busy, I can’t really give her crap for it. All in all, if you happen to pass this place and it’s not busy, then I’d say go ahead and give it a go. But it you have to wait for a table at this place, move on down the road. There are way too many restaurants in this area to even consider sitting and waiting for this one.

Just had breakfast 830am 6÷27÷15. The place was full but I’ve seen larger crowds. The menu is a little pricey with a bacon egg and cheese sandwich being 7 bucks without tax. No frills. The wait was a little long at about 40min for a bacon egg and cheese and a bacon scramble. I got fruit as a side and it was so unripe it’d give you lock jaw. My croissant was incinerated. Not just on the outside either. All sides. I’ve never been a waitress but i know id never set down a burnt sandwich knowing it would screw over my tip. It was lazy. It was a bit disappointing for the wait and cost involved.

This place has won me over. If I lived here, I would be a regular. The first time I went I had the Green Tomato BLT. It was phenomenal and hit the spot after a long plane ride. I went back today and had the Shrimp and Grits. It was served on a bowl with scrambled green onion eggs and a biscuit.(I would take a ½ star away after the server told me their biscuits were frozen and not homemade.) The grits was like heaven in my mouth. I have never tasted anything so good! Great sweet tea as well!!!

Went here for breakfast, it was just good, nothing too special. I got egg scrabbled sandwich which had cheese and bacon in it, so you know that’s really good. Oh yeah(just remembered by looking at my picture), it was on a biscuut which was amazing, but isn’t that what the South is known for amazing biscuits. The orange juice came in those little milk containers you used to get during lunch at elementary or middle school, that I still can’t get open easily. It was good, I would probably go again if I was in the area, but like I said it was nothing special.

Sunday morning. Mid-June. Beach town. This place is about as packed as I expected, but the service is quick and the tables turn over at a rapid rate. We waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. We were quickly greeted by our server and brought HUGE cups of coffee. Bonus for the servers — fewer refills required! Between the 3 of us, we tried the biscuits and sausage gravy, pancakes and the Dixie with grits and bacon. The portions are huge and the food was delicious! These were probably the fluffiest pancakes, served with just a sprinkling of powdered sugar, I have tried. I only wish they weren’t out of sugar free syrup. My dining companions raved about their meals as well. I’m looking forward to returning on my next Wilmington visit.

Wish I was eating there this morning. Get there early, before your stomach starts to really growl, there is always a line to get in! This place is a funky little diner with an awesome staff! I love the throwback seating around the retro bar. The bloody Mary’s are crazy good! The menu is good, enough but not so much that you are overwhelmed. The pancakes with pecans are perfection! The Louisiana Hash is spicy, warm, and perfected blended so that each bite will make your eyes roll back in your head. The cornbeef hash is good but is like Louisiana and pancakes pale little sister. I have yet to get to any dessert, maybe next time I’ll start there!

Overrated! If this is the best breakfast in Wilmington then I’m scared to see what else is out there. Coffee was good and the live music in the morning was the best part. But the food is another story… Belgium Waffle & Pancake looked delicious, but looks can be deceiving. They both came out cold and the waffle was super hard. The potatoes were ok, frank’s hot sauce made them better. They didn’t have egg whites as an option if that’s what you are looking for. Breakfast sandwich was just ok too. Take my advice and just grab a quick breakfast sandwich at Mickie D’s or Chicfila.

So Dixie, You were so wonderful, But lately your apron is stained and tattered. Your prices have increased, and your service irratic. Your waitresses leave you high and dry, serve your customers without joy and while your breakfasts are better than they were a couple of years ago… something is wrong. Please consider that we love you as testimony to our willingness to stand in line for a long time. Even in the rain. We will wait and wait and wait for our meals on a busy weekend, knowing that your hash browns have been cut by hand, and cooked to perfection. We will even forgive the waitress for forgetting part of our order but draw the line at her insinuating that it is my fault the item did not arrive. so Dixie, I think I am going to date someone else for a while… see other people… maybe just stay single for a while until you get your act together. Love, Your fervent admirer. p. s. it is never too late to train your waitstaff properly to bring them up to par with your food.
