Excellent breakfast stop in Wilmington. The cinnamon rolls are homemade and are huge. The special breakfast sandwich was uniquely awesome on raisin bread, cream cheese, bacon, sweet potato, and apple slices. Great job!

I was desperate to try this place on a day off since it’s closed on weekends. I finally got to go, and was underwhelmed. One of our party had a tuna salad sandwich(too salty), another had squash empanadas that he wasn’t too impressed with. Someone else had a reuben handpie, and she said the bread(and it was very bready) wasn’t that good nor was the reuben filling that tasty. The side salads are pretty good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

Ever since the first time I tried this place I have been hooked! Everything is so wonderful from the food, the service, the clean and pleasant décor. I really appreciate the concept and I love the name!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile, but never had the chance until today. I had both breakfast and lunch there today. Breakfast was a sausage, egg and cheese on a croissant. It was simple and delicious. I went back for lunch and had the chicken salad on a croissant and a cup of soup. Delicious as well. I definitely recommend Flying PI for both breakfast or lunch.

Oh my goodness! This place is Tasty, with a capital T! When you walk through the door the smell of goodness hits you. The atmosphere is wonderful and full of plenty of cute 2&4 party tables, you’ll also find single seating at the mini bar top. Now the food is melt in your mouth good whether you order the pie of the day or one of their other selections your taste buds will not be disappointed! Please do yourself the favor and leave room for dessert!!!

We found this nice little breakfast and lunch place in Wilmington and went twice. Healthy food, well prepared, at reasonable prices. Small, but they have their own parking lot! The fruit cup alone — seven fruits! — is worth the price of admission. Check it out.

Underwhelming for the price, ordered biscuits and gravy ad while the gravy had good flavor it was cold. Might return to see if lunch is better than breakfast.

Our family ate here while visiting from Calif. This is an off the beaten path gem of a restaurant! The food was wonderful. Fresh, creative, delicious. All of it. We were a party of six and each ordered something different. Every lunch was fabulous. And the desserts were over the top too. Not to mention the ladies who work here are the bomb: super friendly and welcoming. Awesome. Definitely give it a try if you’re in Wilmington! Note, they only serve breakfast and lunch. Bonus is that they post their menu daily on their FB page so you know it’s fresh!

Stop by yesterday morning to meet a friend for breakfast. The ladies there were very friendly and offered an inviting place to eat at. I ordered a sausage and egg biscuit. The price was a little much until I saw it put in front if me. The biscuit was huge and homemade! The biscuit was very much worth the money! I’ll be going back for sure,

Just when I think it can not get any better you come up with a wonderful item like the Roast Beef Hash over Spoon Bread! I brought three friends in who had never eaten at The Flying Pi and they were all bowled over by the flavor, quality and the wonderful people who work there. Time after time I am never disapointed with the ladies and their food. Thank you Flying Pi for making my lunch a special time and keep up the great work!

I got the sourdough BLT, eh. Very expensive. Not that impressive. Has potential. Great spot for a happening place.

Fresh and always flavorful from the morning mad muffins to the best chicken salad over greens. Pi(e) of the day is yummy. Great customer service and friendly and clean environment. A real treat for downtowners.

How do you not love a place where the owner and chef pours her heart into every single item that comes out of the kitchen? This place is awesome and my only complaint is that there aren’t more lunch spots like this in Wilmington. Is it more expensive than Subway? Of course — it’s homemade, fresh food! I love the tuna salad and it’s near impossible to leave without a tasty treat! They also do awesome cakes. I support local businesses and this place gives a lot back to the community. If you are looking for a wonderful, good old fashioned place, this is it. The extra dollar you pay is well worth it.

First off great people running the place! After that though meh. Lackluster food for premium prices and my wife’s food was microwaved killing the freshness and in turn the flavor. If it wasn’t so expensive I’d go back to give it another try.

If you are in downtown Wilmington, you need to eat at Flying PI Kitchen. Breakfast entrees are great, lunch specials are no less than superb. They have food for all régime and appetite; yesterday the butternut squash burrito and kale slaw were great as an entrée for my wife who likes all types of food, I sampled both detail and was very impressed. I had Savory Cheeseburger pie with a chili side. It was impressive. Clean, friendly atmosphere. Price is fair for what you get, you can have lunch(2 entrée) with tip for $ 20. You can go to many other places in town and find that you pay more for less and average quality food.

In agreement with Harold J.(see march ’12 review). Overpriced and just barely adequate in terms of taste, ingredients, and execution. The one and only perk as far as I can see is the friendliness of the people who work there. Have been 3 times now and won’t be wasting my green here again.

Severely over priced. Nothing on the menu is properly seasoned(Correction: seasoning= the right amount of salt to enhance flavors). In fact the owners admit they do not season anything. Seasoning or «salt» can be overly used to hide a product that is not made from fresh ingredients, but seasoning is important in breaking down the proteins to bring out flavor. If this shop just made salad dressings, it would be phenomenal, other than that, $ 8 for a average BLT, $ 12(correction: it was $ 10 and a Caesar salad made with baby greens as opposed to romaine) for a salad. I think the only way they can keep their doors open is the proximity to the courthouse. And they use a microwave? If your looking to spend more $ on organic and fresh, you will be disappointed.

Flying Pi intrigued by the sign, but never seemed to be downtown when the place was opened. Finally today Popped in. Immediately greeted by one of the two people behind the counter. Chalkboard to the right when you enter tells you the specials and features. The counter is filled with what they have on offer. If this is your first time just let the enthusiastic woman fill you in on the finer points. Listen to her suggestions. You will be rewarded. Especially if you choose the Kale slaw. AwwwwwSooommmeee! More on that later. It was so good, I could give a jolly rat’s azz about the potato chips accompanying the meal I had chosen. It was that good. The only improvement I would make would just be for culinary interest. Instead of sesame seeds, try caramelized pecans for fun. I did try the cinnamon roll. Give it a C+/B-. Not too sweet, light on cinnamon, nuts chopped too fine to taste, pale undercooked color. Tastes like pie dough, slight rancidity(lard? crisco?)taste. Not enough yeast in dough. Slightly heavy. Second or third day in the case? They’d be doorstops. I came in because I NEEDED a slice of pie or cake. Didn’t find apple pie. I think it was hiding where I couldn’t be enticed(the only flaw so far, that I can see, is that I couldn’t view all of the wonderful things on display). They were covered in the case with wrap and well, you know, your own eyeballs are often a shops best sales person. However the Flying Pi’s sister(of the cook) will more than make up for not being able to see the things you are meant to try. She is very enthusiastic and descriptive. I think her big sister, was the strong silent type. :) I learned more about the passion of the place and the concept than I did from the chef. Sis is a a great marketer. And unlike a chain store, where you get gallons of grumpy with your order, here, you are welcomed immediately and well, I had intended to just have a coffee, next thing you know, I ordered. The location used to be a Port City Java, I think. the give away, is the faded painted logo in the outer vestibule. It is in the area of Wilmington that is very close to the courthouse. I saw plenty of pointy shoes, serious clothes and overheard lawyer-ese being spoken behind me. The décor is sophisticated enough to bring someone to lunch that you are meant to impress, but relaxed and friendly enough to not worry about being in your jeans while you are watching the lawyers frown and peck on their blackberries a lot. Guess what. I don’t think the PCJ would be missed. I can’t believe they have been open a year. the definitely should promote themselves more. Watch this space. For a first date, I can’t say I’m in love… well the Kale slaw, locally sourced kale with slivers of carrots, sunflower seeds and vinaigrette, makes me want to have a second date and maybe go steady.
