The view here is awesome, and the food is pretty good but not worth the price. The service also isn’t the best, however I understand this was probably situational. I would recommend doing apps and drinks to take in the view and save a few bucks.

The ambiance is amazing. I had a client dinner and we say outside over looking the river. The food was very good. It is pretty expensive, but would be a great place to have business dinner or a date. The service was unnoticeable until we needed something, which is great when you are having business discussions. I had pasta, as I had been on the coast for two week and did not want anymore seafood.

What is atmosphere/ambiance worth? Well if you visit«the George“you can equate those types of words with a value. I was with a party of eight, we chose the outdoor patio… it was the first of many predicted humid days, we arrived about seven pm. A nice breeze was coming off the water to blow through the boardwalk and George’s patio area. The breeze was so comforting, the setting sun memorizing. It was a wonderful backdrop to our groups lively conversation and fun! I’m not sure what everyone ordered but along with the beers everyone enjoyed their meal as well as the ambiance. As for me, I had the shrimp and grits, not something I usually eat, and it was delicious! If I could; I would have licked the plate clean! As it was, I used my spoon and aggressively collected the sauce and all of its creamy, spicy goodness… the shrimp was good as well :) There were several people in our group who had never visited the George and we left raving about the food and all that went along with the evening. One last thing, the waitstaff was wonderful, friendly and efficient; effortlessly, filling our glasses and providing refills without being intrusive. I’m not sure what the bill came to(our host covered it for us); I can guess but what ever it was I’d gladly pay it for the atmosphere the George contributed to a fun night for all of us.

Should be called The Avoid. Mediocre to poor food and clueless, overwrought servers. Way overpriced. Also, serving flounder but out of tartar sauce? Just go make some. You’re waiting for a delivery? Maybe this is a heat and serve kind of place. Next. The restaurants on the waterfront used to be excellent. Now it all feels like an overpriced, disappointing tourist trap. What a shame.

I had the shrimp and grits today at The George. The French toast foster was delicious, but the shrimp and grits were by far the best I have ever had. They were completely homemade, creamy, and cheesy with the perfect amount of shrimp for me, although for the shrimp fanatic, it may be a little on the light side. The service is also excellent.

Five stars for location on the river walk, service, and food. Our server was knowledge about the area and the yummy menu. Gluten Free options were available. I would recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I were seated outside on the deck. There is a beautiful view of the river with the battleship North Carolina peeking over the trees. There is a wide selection of dishes, but seafood is their specialty. We both chose the pecan crusted grouper with risotto with grilled asparagus. It was delicious, the risotto was especially creamy. Other dishes I’d considered were the grilled seabass or a ribeye. Both sounded very good in the menu. There is a selection of craft beer and mixed drinks.

I’ve eaten at The George a good handful of times and have always had a great dining experience. The food and the ambience is amazing. Start off your night at The George with a crafted martini and be sure to try the crab stuffed salmon!

The in-laws were in town, and we wanted to take them to a scenic place to eat. Unfortunately, there was a wait for the outdoor section, so we opted for inside. They have a nice wine list. I chose a rose, which was crisp and light. For my entrée, I ordered the Buffalo Shrimp Wrap, a tortilla filled with fried shrimp, buffalo sauce, fried jalapeños, and cheese. As a side, I chose waffle fries, which are a rare treat since I no longer frequent Chic-Fil-A. The wrap wasn’t very spicy, but my hot-o-meter is out the roof. But, it was very tasty. I ate half and gave the other half to my husband for next day’s lunch. Waffle fries were crispy and not greasy. My mother-in-law and husband both ordered the flounder sandwich. I nibbled a few bites from his side order of Mac and cheese. Very creamy. My father-in-law got the crab cake sandwich. No complaints, and he is a tough critic. Service was fast and friendly. I was able to catch a bit of the playlist in the ladies’ room and outside. Everything from vaudeville to Led Zeppelin. Unfortunately, we couldn’t really hear it in the restaurant. The George was a delightful place to take my in-laws. Thank you!

Well, we came here for brunch and I was expecting something a little better than what I received. I ordered a croissant sandwich with hard fried eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns and fruit. The first time I had to send my sandwich back, it was just a fried egg with a loose yolk.(I can’t stand a runny yolk, which is why I asked for hard fried and specified no runny yolk) Once my sandwich re-arrived it was in edible condition, and it was pretty tasty. All in all, it’s okay food. Not sure I’d be back for brunch, but I would like to try the rest of the menu.

Was kind of disappointed after we sat down and was I looking through the reviews to see what to eat. Luckily my husband and I both ordered very good meals. I had the firecracker shrimp wrap with the vegetable medley. Both were very good, although the veggies were a tad salty for my liking. He had the shrimp and grits and said they might be the best he’s had. Overall very pleased with our experience.

On a recent trip along NCHWY17 on a Sunday evening we landed at The George. We chose to sit at the bar as we wanted to get back on the road We ordered the ‘The George’ Calamari. Oh my what a fabulous version. It came with artichoke hearts, black olives, sundried tomatoes with fried capers topped with Feta cheese. It was so good! My husband ordered the tomato basil soup which was really good too. We even dipped the calamari in it. For our main meal I chose the sea bass, I personally felt there was too much risotto served for my liking but it was really good. The bass was seasoned and grilled to perfection My husband chose the shrimp and grits. He loved it. No complaints from him. The restaurant sits by the Riverwalk in Wilmington, NC and was such a nice place to visit. We want to go back on a warmer evening.

Great view of river, and riverwalk. Accommodated us outdoors with our large dog. The park sea bass with risotto was awesome. Hubby loved the salmon stuffed with crab. Great for people watching and sunsets.

The Menu is impressive, and the location can’t be beat. with tables on the river and the Battleship North Carolina in the background they are situated for some prime sunny weather bistro enjoyment. For us on this day that’s where the good ended. We started with the Trio of hummus and pita points… The helpings were a good size for two people but the Pita bread quickly run out. Asking for more we were informed that would be EXTRA… WTH… Extra charge for Pita chips to finish the helping sizes they gave us… A huge pet peeve of mine. My wife had a crab cake sandwich in which she was hard pressed to find anything other than filler. I had a a spicy tuna flat bread sandwich and a side of cucumber and onion salad. The Tuna was ok, but I found it rather devoid of being either spicy or tasty. Sitting in the sun(Our choice) refills of iced tea was slow. In fairness our waitress wasn’t very good, but she was new and learning the ropes so no loss of stars for service… With the HUGE number of available restaurants in the Wilmington Waterfront area, I doubt very seriously we would go back.

The location and view alone would easily warrant a higher rating, but sadly the overall rating is marred by substandard service and sub-par food. It’s smack dab on the water and has a great dog friendly patio, which is by far the best thing going for it. Service isn’t unfriendly, it’s just really really poor. We arrived and there was a wait for an outdoor table, so we sat at the bar to grab a drink while we waited. The bartender was busy and finally acknowledged us, took our drink order, and delivered half of it before being distracted and moving onto another group. Luckily, a young man I can only assume is management came to her rescue and finished our order. When our table was finally ready, we made our way outside, sat down and sat. And sat. And sat. And sat… it took about 15 minutes before we finally got someone’s attention and our server finally made it to us. Our server was friendly, but inattentive. During our visit, I saw the same experience go down at pretty much all the surrounding tables. The hardest working staff member was the poor busser/runner. The kid was running around trying to take care of everyone… while still maintaining a smile. The rest of the servers looked like they just received bad news. Not a single smile anywhere. Food Fish and Chips: Two decent sized flounder filets, fried surprisingly well. On a bed of frozen seasoned limp fries. No big complaints, but not very memorable, for sure. Penne a la Vodka: Overcooked pasta. Skimpy basil and a relatively bland watery sauce. Again, no big complaints, but really nothing of note. Blackened Grouper Rueben: Laughably small piece of fish for $ 15. Blackened one only one side, it was by far the blandest blackened anything I have ever eaten. The positive is that the fish was fresh. Jicama slaw… sigh…barely any even on the sandwich. Protip… jicama has no real flavor of its own. I got one shred of apple and one shred of carrot, both of which did nothing to add any flavor. You really need to add something to it to bump up the sweetness and acidity that the kraut typically brings to a rueben. The bread was plain grocery store bread. This sandwich was just flavorless and sad. I’d consider this a fail. It’s a real shame that a restaurant with such a great location and view fails so hard on every other aspect. If they were to step up their games in the service and food departments, The George would be at the top of list of Wilmington destinations.

WE ordered the chicken panini and fries. It was a dried out thin piece of chicken on toast. Fries were cold and had to wait forever to get a new order. Turkey burger was eventually bad. Food was over priced, tasteless, and poor service. Order the salmon or clam chowder instead, but remind them to bring the toppings.

Yummy! We came here on a Friday night after spending the day exploring Wilmington for a nice dinner. You couldn’t see a whole lot because it was night, but the atmosphere was great! It was quiet and relaxing. I got the Sea Bass and my boyfriend got the Diablo Pasta, both dishes were great.

Went for Sunday brunch and will be back! Our service was amazing… Friendly, attentive and offered suggestions of their best dishes. My dad got steak & eggs with hash browns and he said it was one of the best«rare» steaks and perfectly cooked eggs over medium he has had in a while. My mom got the steak quesadilla and LOVED them!(That’s all I got out her because she was too busy eating) I tried the shrimp and grits and I know each restaurant has their own style but this was hands down one of the most delicious I have ever had. The bacon and diced tomatoes in the cheesy grits had the best pop of flavor and the old bay flavor on the shrimp were perfect.

We had a very large group here for dinner the night before our wedding. It was the first time the family’s would meed(flew in from all over the country/world). The only thing stopping a 5 star rating was the prices, very expensive. But the food, the food was amazing and dare I say worth it if just only on that one night. The family had a great time due to the accommodations that the staff provided and the friendly service. I ordered the NY Strip and it was by far the best steak I have had in North Carolina without question. It was cooked perfectly as I had ordered it(medium/Rare) and perfectly seasoned. The calamari as an appetizer was amazing, not your run of the mill frozen rings fried up and thrown on a plate. They breaded and fried the calamari but it was the additional items that made it spectacular. The peppers and spices were the perfect compliment to the dish. I heard zero complaints from my family and everyone left full and happy. Thank you to the staff of the George for making a possible stressful evening into a pleasurable experience. I would highly recommend this place to everyone even if you just go once to enjoy the food on a night you feel like splurging.

The good: Great location, beautiful décor, inside and outside seating, great area for people watching. The bad: Expect to have a minimum 30 minute wait if your group is 5 or more. Make sure your sitting when you get the check. This place holds probably 200 eaters at a time, and offers a single bathroom stall. Every time I walked into the bathroom, there were 2 or 3 people waiting for the stall. LOL Poor guys. We ordered the calamari appetizer. This was hilarious! It was 13 dollars. Wehn the dish comes, all you see are artichoke hearts, black olives, sundried tomatoes and fried capers. Dig further and you will find about 10 tiny pieces of calamari. I laughed out loud when it came. For lunch I ordered the fried shrimp Po’boy. If you saw this pathetic sandwich, you would have fell of your chair. It was 13 dollars for a hotdog bun with fancy greens, 3 slices of tomato and 5 nickle sized shrimp. It took me 3 bites to eat it. Oh, it comes with a few fries as well. I was still starving. So, 1 beer, 1 app, 1 sandwich = 37 dollars after tip and still starving. Never ever again will I waste money and time here.
