Old school atmosphere, authentic 1950’s diner/ice cream parlor. A little odd with the bakery window full of toys, but whatever. Great service! Had two waiters actually, which made paying a little confusing. I had an Italian dish and a glass of wine and my bf had a meatball hero. Pricey for what things were and my bf’s hero was smaller and more expensive compared to other places. Still the food was good and it was a quiet atmosphere without much hassle, which is what we were looking for. Their desserts looked really good and a lot of people were coming in for desserts only, but we didn’t try em.

I love this place. They create their ice cream in shop and it is outstanding. Banana ice cream w a side of hot fudge. Trust me on this one. Their circular fries are amazing. Great goat cheese salad, chicken ceaser salad, tuna melts, & burgers all very good.

Grabbed some desserts on a Saturday night. Vintage root beer float, malts and shakes. We all ate at the bar and it felt like 1972 all over again. Good memories and good ice cream.

I’m not too sure why people are so crazy about this place. The food is pretty bland and overpriced. The ice cream is good and the fudge is yummy. The staff is really not friendly.

I have been going to Hildebrant’s for years. Brian and his staff are amazing. The food and ice cream are home made. Everything is always fresh. I have never had a bad meal here. I have tried everything on the menu and think its fantastic.

Great burgers, great fries, and the ice cream is the best! The place reminds me of old time icecream parlors, not the cookie cutter chain icecream stores of today. Service and people are pleasant. Worth checking out.

Very mediocre food. We ordered ice cream(Cappuccino, peach, Oreo and banana), mozzarella and steak, and lasagna. The waiter suggested we get the mozzarella and steak hero. It seems as if he had recommended that item due to it being priced highest in the sandwich category. The meat was extremely overlooked and rubbery. I opted not to finish the over-cooked shoe accompanied by a hero and mozzarella. The ice cream was okay.

We saw Hilderbrandt’s on Triple D and thought how is it possible we have never gone to this place that’s 20 minutes from our house. So we finally tried it and I have one question. Was Guy Fieri drunk when he went to this place??? What a dump. When you walk through the door it smelt like an old ladies home. The place needed to be hosed down! Old and nostalgic is ok but dirty isn’t! We went with the plan to just have ice cream but then decided to try a few apps. Big mistake! The chili was like dog food, the«French» bread pizza wasn’t very French at all. It was like someone melted cheese and poured some ragu over a sandwich roll. And the mozzarella sticks lacked one important ingredient… MOZZARELLA!!! The service was very very slow! The ice cream was ok! But by the time it came out I was ready to leave, get home and take a shower! My advice… Don’t believe everything u see on TV!

Great for an old-fashioned ice cream experience, but I wouldn’t really order any food here. We went here with our two kids to have an old-school ice cream parlour feel, but I feel the service could have been friendlier. The server just did the bare minimum. A smile goes a long way! The MOZZERELLASTICKSAREBAD– do not order them. read a previous Unilocal review saying how bad they were, but I had to see for myself. The problem is that the breading is WAY too thick, and there is not enough cheese in them. They’re thick and heavy and just feel like a brick in your stomach when you eat them. The fries are probably the best find here since they actually taste like deep fried fresh potato chips however. The saltiness is good for cutting all that sweetness. The place is super old, and has the original flooring and furniture. Could use a good scrubbing, but I kind of expected it from previous Unilocalers.

Their French onion soup is delicious! If you’ve never tried it before, I suggest trying it here for the first time. You’ll love it! The banana split was also delicious. Banana ice cream and cookies and cream ice cream with whipped cream, sprinkles, hot fudge, and walnuts, yummy! All homemade!

A Very good diner. The ice cream is the reason to drop by. I Love all the flavors I’ve tried. I keep coming back to the diner for ice cream.

A griddled burger with a too lean chuck combination. The burger was good but gushed no juice. The only juice I found came from the addition of mayonnaise to the toasted bun. The toppings: tomato slice, onion, lettuce, cheese were impeccable. The bun? An oversized sourdough roll that was so big I could never quite get my mouth around the meat and or the toppings in one bite. The patty is a hand formed, rough chopped, beef blend that is cooked nicely to med-rare. The patty is griddled and pushed down onto the grill as much as the well doneness is requested — the more well done, the thinner and more spread out the patty. The less well done, equally the opposite. The meat is faintly seasoned an could use a healthy dash of salt before Being thrown on the grill. This place is worth checking out of you want a mediocre burger served over a very long period of time.

The home made ice cream is one of the only reasons I come here. The service is average, food average and prices are high. The semi old school feel is cool, the beanie babies as soon as you walk in are a cute idea. The ice cream bar is the only reason I come here…

This place is not anything to brag over. The place looks like a dump, the waiter was rude and the service sucked. The food is terrible and the ice cream is okay. Once again Guy Fieri was wrong. He clearly does not know what good food is. The mozzarella sticks that he raved over was horrible. All it was, was thick breading and little cheese. Won’t be coming back here.

We went here on Saturday night, and it was pretty good! Reading mixed reviews on Unilocal made me a little iffy about going, but I’m glad we did. The ice cream was great, and the food was pretty good. The waiters were pretty nice too. All in all, a 4⁄5 experience.

Listen: places like this don’t exist anymore. Lime rickey? In NY? Get out. But this place is different: good food, not too pricey, cool serving dishes. You like ice cream? Save room. Lot’s to choose from. I liked it a lot.

Came back the other day with my kid neighbor friend and a bundle of warm memories. We got 1-hour parking on Hillside Avenue, but there’s 90-minutes spots around the corner on Cross Street and then just residential area further in. It’s a family-owned restaurant. Mom and pop, brother and sister, and grandmother are all about, if you’re lucky. But you’ll have to call to get anyone’s attention, including a waiter; it’s actually a small space, despite all the seating, so not too much help can get through at once. Don’t get intimidated by the sheer size of the menu and all the retro item names, like Egg Creams and Apple Fizzes in the fountain beverages on the back. From my experience, it’s all good, although I haven’t really approached any of the Italian specials or chicken platters. I’ve seen them at other tables, though. They look worth trying. Thing you’re always supposed to order is the potato fries. Sliced into medallions and deep fried with the skin still around them. They come out golden brown, the skin wrinkled and glistening, and are both crispy and soft. Best fries you’ll have all month, or until you come back. Sandwiches here are wonderful. I got a Tuna Melt with Swiss on rye, which had moist and finely ground tuna salad. Before I remember getting a Meatball Parmesan Hero. Delicious meatballs, with greatly rounded flavor while retaining a wonderful texture and moisture, all enveloped in gooey parmesan and homemade marinara! Dessert’s a must here. Their ice cream is wonderful, not icy, and their whipped cream is thick, fluffy and rich. We got a flatcar – ice cream on a slice of pound cake, topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Everything about it was good, from aforementioned ice cream and whipped cream to the buttery cake on the bottom. Only significant downside of this place, other than service, is they open at 11 and close at 8:30 pm. But even if you’re on a schedule, you could just tell them and they keep an eye on you. They’re understanding folk. Hell, I’m just really comfortable here. :)

This. Place. Where do I begin?! I wish I could marry Hildebrandt’s, My dream perhaps is to marry A Hildebrandt’s. Is that too obsessive? In all seriousness, I’m a health freak that counts calories and only indulges when it’s truly worth the cals. That being said, I will CLOBBER my own Whipped Cream Fudge Sprinkle Sundae by myself within 5 minutes because it is THAT good and THAT worth it. So homemade, so fresh, so clean clean… Whipped Cream ain’t none of that light Reddi-Whip fluffy they serve at your neighborhood Haagen Daasz. No, texture is like that dense yet fluffy cloud you wanted to jump on when you were on a plane as a kid(maybe that was just me). Cookies and Cream features whole Oreos in homemade vanilla ice cream — and unlike that Breyer’s blasphemy, they don’t skimp on the Oreos — it’s literally chunks of half whole Oreos — and lots of ‘em. Did I mention they serve hot fudge on the side? Create your own chocolate fountain as that hot fudge dribbles down all sides of your 5 minutes of heaven. Phew, need a break, getting hot ‘n heavy over here.

My sister and I went for some late afternoon treats after shopping. We’re big fans of Triple D and wondered why we hadn’t been here before when Hildebrandts is so close to us. Since it was mid-afternoon and we just needed something to hold us over until dinner; my sister ordered the blueberry pie and I ordered the banana sundae. My sister bit into her pie and immediately told me to grab my fork and try a piece. It was so warm and comforting, the crust was crumbly but not pastry-dough flakey. The blueberries were perfectly cooked and fresh. Good thing she ordered it ala mode. My banana sundae was divine. I got it with chocolate chip ice cream and cookies & cream. The homemade ice cream was creamy and lighter than your average supermarket pint. Let me talk about the fudge though, oh my dear lord. I put as much as I could of it on my ice cream and when I was done with that i just spooned it out. Holy smokes it was that good. As far as the restaurant itself, yes its shabby on the inside but its got a great hometown pride heart. The service was good, although two different waiters would come up and ask our drink orders and whatnot. A little weird but okay, i’ll call it a high attention to detail. I cant wait to go back and try what Guy Fieri dived into.
