Mexican grill AND sushi??? So crazy, it just might work! I would say it did. The sushi was made fresh, nice presentation, and tasted quality. I also ordered a steak taco– the meat could have used a little more flavor, or maybe I needed a little more salsa. Overall, I’ll be back for more.

I’ve driven by a lot and stopped in. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but had the steak burrito around 6pm on a Saturday. It’s set up like a Chipotle except half the price. The ingredients tasted fresh and I was full afterwards. Glad I stopped in.

It was a low-key Thursday evening. I wasn’t in a great mood. I picked a place that’s been hanging out in my queue for several years. I was the only person in the restaurant save for a repairman who was working on some windows. The owner gave him some food later, so they might have known each other. I approached the beginning of the serving area and struggled to find something to appease my case of the blahs. The menu looked about what I was expecting, though my eye settled on the chicken teriyaki burrito. I thought it was a clever bridging of the Mexican restaurant that used to occupy this space and the Japanese influence that was supposedly now in residence. I mean: bento, teriyaki — it’s in the wheelhouse. It wasn’t until writing this review that I realized that for some reason the teriyaki burrito is a part of Poblano’s standard menu at all of their restaurants. The lady made the giant fast casual burrito with my choice of rice, beans, and toppings, as you would expect, though before wrapping it up the chicken got doused with some teriyaki glaze from a squeeze bottle. It was my first indication that perhaps I chose poorly. On the plus side, the sweet sauce covered up some of the dryness of the chicken. The rest of the burrito was about what you would expect. I would have ordered some sushi to try, but the sushi menu is sitting next to the register, so by the time I noticed it and remembered it was available I was already paying for the burrito. I didn’t push the matter, especially because of how dead it was, and also because It wasn’t particularly apparent where the sushi was being made, because it wasn’t visible amid all of the burrito-making ingredients. I liked that they had calorie-free Sobe on the soda fountain. The rest was unremarkable. This isn’t a restaurant that tries to fuse sushi and burritos, it’s a restaurant that couldn’t commit to their own ideas. There’s a reason Poblano’s decided the space wasn’t economically viable for their product. Half-assedly bolting a sushi menu onto the concept isn’t going to save business. I was full, but I didn’t leave in much more of a better mood than I entered.

Totally passed this by and turned right around. I was craving sushi and the boyfriend Mexican. This restaurant was Kismet. Clean and comfortable. Tv playing football. They have a line set up like chipotle with really yummy ingredients. Expansive menu and good descriptions. All of the sushi has pictures!!! I got the chicken tacos. None of their liquid salsas had onions which is huge for me because I have an allergy. The burrito was huuuge but not very well wrapped. Overall delicious and will probably be back soon.

This used to be Poblano Mexican Restaurant, the new owner bought it and kept the old menu and also added Sushi! It may sound like an odd combination but you can order either one or both if you want. I usually get both, the sushi is really good and of course the Poblano menu is still great. I highly recommend!
