Really nice place! It has that beachy surfing feel to it and it’s kept really clean, I was impressed by the restroom, it was kept really nice and we were treated nicely by Micheal and kept on bringing us water and asking if everything was alright. The sauces for the seafood was good, I got spiced out easily by the hot sauce but it went really well with the lemon. Overall nice place and will be visiting soon!

I went to enjoy a delicious dinner and that surely didn’t happen! First let’s start with me walking into a place that was ridiculously hot! There ac had broken. But I told my friend no big deal we can deal with this! As soon as we got there the waiter I think his name was Johnny or The Reciept said«Dat» approached us and just put the menus down in front of us and proceeded to walk away without saying anything. I was surprised by that being since I’m a waitress and I felt that what he did was a little rude! But I waved it off! When he finally greeted us we told him we had the groupon deal and he rolled his eyes! And was like yeah what do you want. I asked him if we could get shrimp and crab legs. He said yes. So we were happy he did that for us! But he left the table and didn’t even ask us for our drink order. So we called him back because we wanted water and our beers since he said they didn’t have the wine we wanted. And we also ordered some appitizers. So all the food came out right but we couldn’t eat because we didn’t have any utensils. So I finally got his attention like 5 mins later I asked him if we could get some things and then he brought them slammed the napkin dispenser on the table. I still didn’t say anything. I was really thirsty and didn’t get my drinks till after my food! And I had to go up to the helpful bartender that was there that day to get some waters! I got one check back to see how we were doing. A whole 15 mins later I flagged him down to get boxes for my food and all I got was the check. Another 5 minutes later I got his attention and got the boxes I needed. I was patiently waiting or at least trying to but it was too hot to be waiting another 10 minutes for my check to be processed! So I went up to the bar to where my server was sitting and eating and drinking and asked the girl again for help. And she did with a smile on her face! That bad server really ruined my experience there!

My first time here, the food was good! I came with my husband and my daughter. We used the Groupon deal which was really good deal. The reason I gave 3 stars is because service is HORRIBLE. The location is pretty small and even like that it’s hard to get attention of a waiter. We never got refills of any of our drinks. Once we asked for our check to a waiter, he had to look for our waiter which was nowhere to be found… next time get it to go!

First the service is good. She explained everything in detail and was vey patient. Now the food, it was average. It was flavorful but lack something special in the flavor. We went because of the Groupon we purchased. We like the shrimp & mussels the most. Craw fish is a craw, after the skin is removed there is hardly any meat. It is like the commercial«where is the beef»? Why go through the trouble to remove the skin there is hardly anything there. We drove 20 miles for this and hardly is worth it.

This place is delicious! Better than Crab Hut & Crab Pub in SD! :P. The Kamikaze sauce on shrimp & Mussels was soo amazing. I usually don’t like mussels, but their sauce made them taste amazing & they aren’t too fishy nor have a fishy aftertaste. The waitresses always asked if anything was needed and refilled my party’s and others’ beverages constantly. They were patient and polite as well :) The décor is so cute too! It feels cozy and happy and just the ambience one expects from a place named Cajun Island hehe. Definitely coming back whenever I come up! :D. And yay for Groupon deals!!!

Been here a few times. The servers are always nice but theyre distracted and service is spotty However I would say this would be the most impatient I have been. with the service. Im not picky, when we order, its straightforward and clear. there were only 2 – 3 tables. filled with 3 servers. I may be more understanding if theyre packed but not when 2 tables are actively eating or. even with 2 other tables finishing up. They were.nice.however, I have to ask or follow up twice for each thing from. our order from simple things as drinks but no straws, corn not coming as ordered, side sauce, lemons 2x, bib. If they would focus more time on being attentive instead of being distracted/spending most of their time chatting/hanging with their friends who are sitting in the bar.

Came to this restaurant with my wife, kids, and godparents, and we all left very satisfied. I purchased the $ 61 Groupon which is 8 lbs total of mussels, clams, shrimp, or crawfish(we ordered 2 lbs of each) with half medium spicy and half mild spicy(for our infant and our little girl). We also added potatoes, sausage, and corn to our order, and my godparents ordered a shrimp and avocado salad appetizer before we got there(didn’t catch the name of the plate). Everyone in my family ordered fruit lemonades and they all were impressed with the freshness. The waitress was attentive and even provided additional sausage when we asked to add it to the mild bag and instead it was added to the medium spice bag. We really enjoyed both the food and the service. Bill ended up at double what we got the groupon for, but we did order a lot more with the drinks, appetizer, and additional food. Some tips: –6 or more, including infants/children, will warrant an automatic 18% gratuity. –Fruit drinks are great! –They can separate your groupon into bags with different seasonings, which is convenient when you have half people enjoying spicy and half not. –Medium spicy mess IS spicy while mild spicy is much less of a spicy intensity. Overall great service and delicious food! We will definitely be returning again.

the food wasn’t bad at all, it taste different from other cajun places. The service was really bad, not attentive at all and very unprofessional. We have to constantly asked for condiments such as lemon, salt, black pepper, ketchup. Also, the waiter had friends that came to eat there and most of the time he was sitting there talking to them. The only reason we went to Cajun Island was because of groupon. We will not be returning to the place.

I came here with a Groupon to try the place out. We originally wanted the peeled shrimp, but as some other Unilocalers have come to find out, they charge an additional $ 2/lb for peeled shrimp. I don’t understand it, but whatever. We ended up going with 2 lbs of mussels and 2 lbs of shrimp. Both were with the kamikaze sauce. Honestly, the food was just okay… nothing to really rave about. I probably wouldn’t come back, but the service was pretty good. With the Groupon and tip, you’re looking at about $ 40 total(if you stick to just the 2 lbs per person and don’t add anything on).

I used our groupon for $ 31 for dinner for 2. Server was very nice and accomodating. She let me choose catfish even though it wasn’t part of the groupon. She forgot to bring my rice so she gave us the large side of rice, the flavor is very good, better than kicking crabs flavor. It is very quiet, but we don’t mind that. She was attentive to us and made sure we were ok. We asked for 1lb of crawfish but it seemed like a lot more since they were pretty big and heavy. We were happy with the food & service here.

The happy hr menu is mainly fries and appetizers They have beer and a bar area I wanted to try the soju bottle but my son was impossible to control We ordered garlic parm fries 3 corns And the madi grass combo And 1 lb extra just in case. We finsihed everything My mom liked it bc she doesnt like spicy shrimp she said it was kind of sweet and savory I was like meh its okay but i think ive had better. I will come back sit at the bar have a few drinks and get my shrimp spicy next time.

I hate it when people try to rip you off and think your’re stupid! I got a groupon deal 26 $ dinner for two(2 pounds your choice of seafood for each person) which is great right? but when it was time to order i asked the waitress if we can get 1lb gulf shrimp and 1lb naked shrimp for each one of us, she said they will have to charge us 2 $ extra for every 1lb of naked shrimp, even though the difference between the gulf and naked on the menu is only 1 $(gulf is 11.99 $ a pound and naked is 12.99!) We said fine, but were surprised later on when we found out they charged us 4 $ instead of two and ended up paying extra 8 $ for 2 lb! It wasn’t even worth it! The naked shrimp was so nasty… its the frozen kind thats full of water and no FLAVOUR. I was so upset, if it actually tasted good i would not complain but to charge us that much for a very cheap kind of shrimp really pissed me off. The gulf shrimp is small and very hard to peel(very thin shell and uncleaned), made our fingers very Sore. Their sauce is very watery not flavorful. We oreded 1 corn and 1 coke which isn’t included in the groupon deal and ended up paying 22 $ extra with tip. That means we spent 48 $ in total. For the quality of food and seating and ambiance i rather go to CLAWS even if i had to pay a little extra, they have amazing food And much more privacy and faster service! I will never come back to this place again.

I’ve been to Cajun Islands for lunch several times now. Why don’t the other cajun places open earlier for lunch? I don’t get that! However, I was happy that Cajun Islands opens for lunch at 12:00 pm for lunch. A group of us went to Islands and ordered the following: (1) Mardi Gras Combo #2 Choose 3lbs. of the following: Shrimp, mussels, clams, crawfish Includes:(2) corn,(4) sausages, potato,(1) French bread– $ 32.99 We selected 3 lbs of shrimp with kamazike, mild dressing. Everything was fresh and deslish! (2) Swamp Combo #1 2 lbs of shrimp and/or shrimp, catfish, and corn, sausage and potatoes. I ordered one lbd of shrimp and 1 lb of crawfish. The shrimp and crawfish were large and fresh. (3) An order of the garlic and sweet potato fries Both orders were great. Crispy and very delis! The food was tasty and the service was great. My experience at Cajun Island’s has been a 4 Style Dining Experience!

Got a Groupon for this place and glad I did! This was the first time I’ve been to this style of restaurant. Warning. don’t wear white! The strawberry lemonade is unreal. Fresh strawberry purée and not overly sweet lemonade. Perfect blend. The garlic fries are also super yummy. Even got an order to bring home. Definitely coming here again!

Don’t recommend this place to people that are looking for quick and accurate service. The food is somewhat decent but the amount of time it took to get our order was unacceptable. I ordered a beer on draught and was given a bottle. As of right now, she is waiting two tables and can’t manage the two of us. DONOTBUYEVENONDISCOUNT. Happy Hour: All day Monday, Tuesday-Friday: 3:00 — 6:00pm Wow! Cajun Island has a really extensive menu, one might even say that it is a bit cluttered with too much similar options. The service is quick and friendly and my favorite thing about this place is that they will let you do half pound orders. This is perfect for me because I like variety, but I can never finish my food! KUMAMOTOOYSTERS(HH $ 1.75/each) — I ordered a dozen of the kumamoto oysters for happy hour and I was a bit disappointed. They were not fresh and the shucking left much of my oysters stuck to the shell with bits of the shell in some bites. ROASTEDCORN($ 3.00) — They have a few different options for the roasted corn: Cajun island, Baja, Asian and Western. I looked at the four options and I didn’t really like any of them… I basically ended up just telling them what I wanted on my corn. The toppings were nice since I chose things I liked, but the corn itself was a bit soggy. It was definitely not fresh corn. GULFSHRIMP($ 11.99/lb) — I am grateful they allowed me to order the shrimp by the half pound. I had my shrimp steamed with garlic butter. The shrimps here were only the smaller side but they have more shrimp to make up for that. It was just okay, didn’t hate it but definitely didn’t love it. I feel like their menu is so big that their ingredients are not fresh. I rather have less options, but better quality food. As much as I want to come back to explore more of their Happy Hour items, such as the frog legs, I am not in too much of a rush to come back.

My husband and I came here couple years ago when it first became Cajun Islands. It was actually good the first time. We really enjoyed the corn here. It was sort of like Mexican elote… it had parmesan cheese on it, spices, butter, and other stuff. It was probably the best thing they had. Fast forward to several months later, we wanted to eat here again especially because of THAT corn… First off, service was terrrrrrrible! The waiter seemed high, he would forget what we ordered and it took forever to get our food. Then he would forget our drinks and he would just go off and talk about something totally unrelated to anything we were saying. He brought us other people’s food, and then he would forget to bring our actual food too. *cries* lol. It was just horrible. The food was not good, the previous corn we came back for was just plain corn that has some butter slapped on in one area and parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. Nothing like the one we had. One of the corn was still frozen on the inside??? Wth who knew it was frozen corn lol. The waiter was unaware what planet he was on at this point. A customer came in to order something to go and our waiter took her order. Poor lady was sitting for a good 20 mins when she asked what was going on with her order. The waiter goes back to check and tells her that they were actually closed so the cooks did not make her order. She was so pissed as she had a right to be… the open sign was still on as our waiter guy forgot to turn it off. Ok so back to our frozen corn… Some waitress came out and told us that she is cooking things in the back because one of the cooks quit and she is helping. Instead of undercooked, inedible food, terrible service, and a cook missing, I would just close the restaurant down for a little and maintain my reputation if I was the owner. After that last visit here, we said we wouldn’t go back. I see that people have updated their reviews and say it’s better so maybe one day we will try the $ 1 oyster Mondays as a start.

Five stars for happy hour $ 1 oysters! Minus two stars for everything else being meh and the service being super meh(aka bad). Food: I am very happy with the oysters here. $ 1 an oyster during happy hour 3−6PM and Monday happy hour is all day. The oysters taste fresh and are generally a good size. A total steal for good oysters. My friend and I ordered 1lb of shrimp, kamikaze style. It definitely looked a lot less than the 1lb I’m used to from Kicking Crab or other places. We were extra hungry so we ordered another pound. The shrimp is cooked well. The sauce is ok in my opinion. I feel like it could be seasoned better. The spiciness takes over the flavor so it’s not good for dipping the bread in. Maybe a little more salt a little less spice. It’s ok/good but not amazing like other places. The bread they have for $ 1 is warmed like it’s toasted but tastes stale? I wasn’t impressed with that. Service: I had high hopes because they looked nice but I was clearly wrong. When we got there, there was one worker(blue Cajun Island) shirt who greeted us and seated us. He took our order and asked us if we wanted bread or rice with it(did not mention it wasn’t free, mehhh). I ordered a peach tea and he brought out two waters. I waited awhile thinking maybe they had to prep it but it didn’t come out. Neither did the bread. He brought out bibs, mine was covered in pepper. After receiving our food, the waiter did not bother checking up on us at all even though the place wasn’t even crowded. Another worker and some of the workers’ friends came in and they busied themselves with talking to each other and watching football. They clearly didn’t care. Afer awhile I brought it to the waiter’s attention regarding the bread and drink and then he got it for me. Throughout the entire meal, they didn’t bother looking in our direction once. They were too busy talking to each other and messing around behind the counter. The only time they came over after the initial food drop off was to give us the check. What a disappointment. Overall, I’ll be back for your oysters but your staff needs a lesson or two in customer service.

So this place changed the owner for the 2nd time. Groupon was so worth it. Going to bring the fam here. The flavor has changed too. Which is sad. The medium was hot enough but made the corn too spicy. We had extras but the original groupon order was just enough. I’d rather order less and tip more. I ordered too much… I like the service here. They allowed me to repurchase the groupon sweet!

Came here because of the Groupon deal. And we will never return again. It took about 15 mins to get our drink order and another 20 mins to get our food order in. There was a party of seven eight guys there(friends with the waiter) and they got special service over all the other guests there. Our food came out, nothing really special. Wanted to order bread to go with our food… Ended up eating almost the whole thing(seven shrimps left) before anyone stop by to ask us if we needed anything else.

My friend and I enjoyed Cajun Islands tremendously today and here’s why: Exceptional service! There were 2 nice boys manning the place this Sunday afternoon. They were polite and kept checking up on us. No wait. Groupon. I think Groupon may have exaggerated what the original cost is for their seafood but I think it still saved me a considerable amount. Would buy and use again. Huge menu! So many options. They have boils, gumbo, sandwiches, sauteed seafood, sides and all sorts of drinks. Great food. I know everybody’s comparing this place to Boiling Crab down the street or something but based on what we ordered today, I think this place is really good. My friend and I ordered the crawfish, shrimp and corn in mild kamikaze. The sauce itself was a little sweet and a lot addicting. The shrimp was average, the crawfish were bigger than I’m used to and corn was well cooked. Bowls. They offer bowls! You can’t believe how much easier it makes your dining experience to have actual bowls to eat out of. Wifi. For whatever reason. Many TVs. For obvious reasons. The only negative thing for me was that they didn’t have CO2 for soda. They also didn’t have any lemonade. However, they did have french bread so that’s cool. I’d definitely come back here, Groupon or not. Being seated immediately is a huge plus for me. Also, they have combos that I want to try in the future.

Premise: We were a large group(18) and we were followed by another large group on a Sunday evening. Likes: –Service was fantastic! Even when it was super busy. The waiters were attentive and very nice. –Reservations available! That’s a huge plus when it comes to cajun places. –Menu variety. So much variety! –Appetizers! They were so good! Try the wings and the calamari! –STRAWBERRYLEMONADE! Believe the hype! It was damn good! This isn’t a dislike, but the only negatives we caught were: the cajun sauce had like a sweet flavor to it almost, and they actually ran out of Cajun sauce. OVERALL: I’d come back for the strawberry lemonade and because of the service.

Groupon brought me in, but never again! 1. The shrimp was not fresh. Bad food is reason enough not to come, but if you need more, read on. 2. The women’s bathroom didn’t have paper towels or any way to dry your hands. 3. I spoke to a server when she brought our food, she ignored me and walked off. 4. We requested a knife, and got a plastic one. 5. The groupon was applied incorrectly, and I actually ended up being billed for more than I was supposed to. They marked it «redeemed» before we even ordered anything. 6. They didnt tell us what was mild or spicy when they brought our bags over. We ended up mixing them up, and didn’t realize it until it was too late. 7. The server gave us our food, and never returned. I literally went up to the bar to ask for the check and paid there rather than going back to the table to wait for a bill. Horrible service. All in all, I could mayyyybe live with these issues if the food was good and the groupon was actually applied correctly. But between mediocre food and shady business practices, it’s just not worth it. Boiling crab or kickin’ crab are way better! Cost is the same.

Still a five star rating for me! This time around we tried the deep fried sausage & clam chowder as appetizers. The chowder had big pieces of clams, but seemed a bit runny, for a chowder, but still tasty. The Parmesan corn was even better than I remember… a MUST for corn lovers. Too much food for two of us, so we brought a lot home. Leftovers. Yum! The Groupon says two pounds for two… But it’s two pounds PERPERSON!!! Wow… I can’t say enough about the strawberry lemonade. It’s over the top amazing and I was craving this from the last time we were here. The mashed strawberry pieces add that special, totally different touch! It’s truly delicious!!! … with free refills. It looks like it might get be family owned and very clean. The service was wonderful! Everyone was welcoming and so very friendly! The food was very tasty. I like hot so I was tempted to get the super spicy but after speaking with the waitress we got spicy. That was HOT! The seasoning we picked was kamikaze(garlic, butter, lemon pepper). That was so good! The meal was so messy! Everything is served in plastic bags and you have to peel the shrimp and crawfish. I think the clams were my favorite! But it was worth it. Pretty good Casian seafood. We used a groupon and upgraded our shrimp to snow crab, which was an extra $ 7 per pound. We enjoyed the food for the most part. I ordered medium spicy and my girlfriend ordered mild, with corn and potatoes. They mixed up the order because I couldn’t taste any spice and my girlfriend was on fire. No problem, we switched bags, but her corn and potatoes were in the spicy bag, so we asked them to get her new corn and potatoes. The owner/manager refused at first and wouldn’t admit that she made a mistake. I think the corn and potatoes were $ 1 each — was it really worth making a deal about it? They did it eventually, but it was a little awkward. The spicy cajun sauce is not like most places — most of the flavor was tabasco sauce, which I really don’t like. I love spicy food but not the taste of tabasco. The mild kamikaze sauce was really good, though. I like the ambiance and the easy-listening music they play. And I love that it is quiet enough to have a conversation.

Very mediocre food, nice staff. Came here with a groupon deal 4 lbs of seafood for 2 people for dinner. The normal price is $ 9/lb so for 4 lbs price is $ 36, the groupon deal was $ 31, not much of a savings at all as they advertised. And of course sides are not included so you have to get those and pay regular price. So it’s definitely a marketing scheme. We got some shrimps and crawfish to share. You can choose your spicyness ranging from mild to super hot. The shrimps were good size but the head and muddy veins were still attached and most of the shrimps were not very fresh since the shells does not come off very easily. Service was nice, the only redeeming point. Bathrooms are clean, parking is difficult depending on time of day.

Also tried 6 oysters, but they were out of the specialty ones :(next time. Oysters were good and served with lemon, red sauce and tapatillo and hot sauce were brought out. Like many Unilocalers, I mentally compared this place to the Boiling Crab. But the BC isn’t open for lunch, and so when we found this place, and we found a groupon, how could we not try it out? Parking in the front is bad but they have street and additional parking in the back of the building. Its tucked away behind a Phở 54 restaurant, in a strip mall off Brookhurst and McFadden. They open daily at noon. We arrived when the place opened and we were the only customers. Since we were on our lunch break we showed Nikki our groupon(2 lbs of shrimp, crawfish or mussels, but no corn or potatoes) and we were about to select crawfish until I asked if shrimp was more expensive, which NIkki replied it was. So we chose 2 lbs of the shrimp from the groupon and added 2 lbs more of crawfish off the menu(which unlike the groupon offer DID come with corn, potato, and 1 rice) If you check into Unilocal, you can get a 30% discount off full priced menu items, so we applied the discount to the crawfish. On Wednesdays, they have chicken wings at 65c each. We added 10 wings(Bourbon BBQ and Lemon Pepper Honey wings). We chose the medium«everything» kamikazi sauce which started off fine, but gradually the heat began to build in my mouth as I was chowing down. The flavor was a bit sweet, sort of like Kicking Crab’s sauce, but the crawfish were puny, which was disappointing since it is the season right now. The shrimp were large, which made up for the small crawfish. The downside of this place is their restroom is for 1 person! They really should install a sink outside the washrooms. So, 1 ½ hours later, and a table full of seafood carnage, our bill came to $ 45, including the tip and after the $ 29 groupon and Unilocal discounts. Overall grade: B-/C+ for the puny crawfish, but an extra star because they are open for lunch.
