Not at all impressed. Saturday at 5:30, they crossed us off without calling us and had to add us back on. Everything is ala carte, very expensive. Food quality is mediocre at best. Tasteless and bland. I loved it as Beaver Creek. Was told previously that a couple of things were going to be on the new menu. They are not. Nothing close, really. No drunken cheese dip. No burger with the egg on top. Seriously. . We are not coming back.

Went here after seeing it on Fox News awhile back. We were very pleased with the ribs, bacon and I had salmon. Service was great and we will definitely return. Some of the best barbecue around.

LOVED the food! Our party of 3 each ordered something different from the menu and everything was delicious! The sweet potato waffle fries were amazing! We were seated immediately and our service was great. I would have given the 5 stars but I felt a little cramped at community type table we were sat at along the back wall. We will definitely be back!

Grindstone gets my endorsement. I give 4 stars for a couple reasons. It’s not my favorite BBQ however I think it is priced very well. Got seated quickly on a busy Saturday night. The server was on top of everything and several folks checked on us to make sure we were squared away. THe burnt ends, cheese curds and the candied bacon on a string were great appetizers for our group. Some of the brisket was dry, but some pieces were delicious. Pulled pork and ribs were good. Sides were good. I wouldn’t mind a better sauce variety on the table. Seating was fine except for being by the smoking patio on a cold day. Great music playing and cool building.

I was really excited to try this new BBQ place that took over the old Beaver Creek restaurant… The Décor was very nice after we were seated our server brought us their version of chips and salsa which was very good… I ordered the 3 meat platter entrée Pulled Chicken, Ribs, and the Beef Brisket and my lovely lady ordered the Beef Brisket Entrée we were very disappointed to find out it comes with no sides just a corn bread muffin?! So my lady ordered a 4.00 dollar ceaser salad which was good but very small and some sweet potato waffle fries that were awesomely good! The Brisket had too much fat on it and not enough flavor both of ours the pulled chicken had the best flavor very smokey and tender it was good the ribs were a real disappointment not enough flavor or dry rub on the bark the one BBQ sauce they have was really good! Price came to almost 50.00 that’s including tip so not too bad we will give it one more shot my lady wants to try the salmon and I want to try the burnt ends and candy bacon I should mention we ate here on a Tuesday not too packed and our waiter was very good and very fast service! I’m really hoping the food has more flavor next time!

Not sure what they are trying to be? Right now — appear to be a country bar that plays 90’s music. Own what your décor is and get some country music in there. Food is good and Rachael is a greater server!

Got a to go order for 12 people and had two minor hick-ups(no salad dressing and chicken sandwich became a pulled pork sandwich). After combing the office for reviews this is what they came up with: Port Austin Sandwich — Awesome! Multiple people Pulled pork sandwich — really good Chicken Sandwich — really good BBLT — decent but could be bigger sized(looked small) Fish — «not to shabby» Pig Candy — yummy but sharable… Maybe go to 4 pieces instead of 6 I think we would have given it a 4.5 if the two mishaps hadn’t happened. Couple suggestions: Get hostess means of entering order into system vs. hand write or as it seems busy move this roll to hostess stand to enter order. Website — would be great to order online, but maybe explain the pricing better. A price range is unknown that gets me from x price to y price. Early reviews complain about service, but both the hostess and the bartender were great! Both double checked my order, so the mixup happened in the kitchen. Pickles should be wrapped or not touching other food Lastly, label the food! Getting sandwiches that are virtually similar and me having to decide if it has something on it isn’t good. Bartender even offered to drive out to fix order if anything was wrong… We didn’t believe this was warranted with this order snafu. Overall this will be added to our mix of local places to order from.

The food and service both need improvement. I will give this place the benefit of the doubt and we will return because the management seems to be working hard. There is too much good competition within a mile of this restaurant for its owners to allow the status quo.

Our timing was awful to experience this new business. On the heels of a Fox 2 feature they claim to have been slammed since. I would believe this as they were out of several menu items, 1 appetizer and of all things Coca Cola! Walking in from the lot and along the wooden walkway it was very apparent that no one cared about the upkeep of the exterior of the business. 15 minutes with a broom and dust pan improves the visual mess that exists. Inside the waiting area is rather small and was not staffed by a host, manager or owner. After 5 minutes the hostess appeared and sat us and all those lined up behind us. The waitstaff was unorganized and working frantically however only taking care of those tables sat, NOT the new guests. Eventually we were greeted by Cody who was apologizing for being out of items because of past success. He then went away and returned a short time later where he took a drink order and we offered an appetizer order which surprised him. My wife ordered a Coke but was told«while we do carry Coca Cola products we are out of Coke». Sams and GFS could have solved this problem and embarrassment. I order my own taster plate consisting or 6 ribs, ¼ lb of pulled chicken and a ¼ pound of beef brisket. I was then informed that while not on the menu they offer a 4 meat taster plate which would be a bit cheaper. We were already told they were out of pulled pork so my question was what my options would be for the 4th meat. My wife did not enjoy her beef au jus as presented but tossed the pretzel roll and enjoyed the meat with the bbq sauce, which was very good. The mac n cheese was okay but not memorable. We asked about the Cole slaw before ordering and when Cody confirmed it was very creamy we ordered it. Needless to say the Coke slaw had no creaminess at all but prepared with a wasabi base, good for those who prefer but I like my salads cold and this was rather warm We spoke with the owners aunt I believe and answered her questions as listed above. The servers still need training, the kitchen is still feeling their way. I will return but not for at least three months because I want to be blown away.

Mmm, pig candy. The burnt ends are amazing. Love the cheese not mac, fried greenbeans, waffle fries yummy. I prefer the seasoned steakfries. The black cherry soda rocks. I can go on and on everything I have had is just so good, cornbread I can’t get enough of, and the cookies mmm.

Went there on 1÷5÷16. I haven’t been there since the name changed. The service Andy and Ryan were GREAT! Attentive, and offered suggestions. The food was ok ribs were good but small, pork sliders were ok a little cold when they got to me, mac and cheese was ok, fresh chocolate chip cookies were not good. I know they are just starting out so I will wait a while before trying it again.

Okay, now that they’re open for lunch, I gave them another try. Then another. MUCH improved service. Both Austin(our first server) and Lisa(our second) were professional, fast, competent, and pleasant. The food was amazing. Just a limited menu now, but so far, every menu item tried has been a win. Men’s room could still use serious attention and that racist crap scrawled on the stall? Maybe a better racist would spell correctly? If you’re going to be a bigot, be able to spell the epithet you call the object of your impotent rage.

I think it was okay. I understand that it is still in the soft opening phase so I’m hoping they change a few things. The spicy bean dip that they bring out with chips is kind of weird. And there wasn’t any music or anything so it was kind of an awkward atmosphere. I got the pulled chicken and I thought it was good. The barbecue sauce was ok. My husband got the pulled pork and said his was cold. The Mac and cheese was good but I’m pretty sure it was the exact Mac and cheese from the twisted rooster in Belleville. The service was good. I just hope they change it a bit before doing a full opening.

Let me start by saying I’ve spent a few weeks in Kansas City, Missouri a year ago and ate nothing but BBQ and let me tell you Grindstone made me feel like I was back down there! They are just starting out and they are still tweaking their menu and they are eager for ideas and really seem to have great potential as a BBQ joint! They have live music at night and from what their waitress Paige said they been drawing in some crowds lately so if you like live music with your meal this place is for you! Not sure if the live music is every night but sounds like a great place just to break up the usual night life for some. As for me I’m over stuffed with Grindstone BBQ will just take a nice nap! I took my son here for lunch we tried a little of almost everything! Cheese Curds, Pig Candy, Grindstone Platter, Cheese & Mac, Baked Beans and Homemade Cornbread! Bill was $ 47.70 was a lot of food had two containers of leftovers!

Delicious food! Burnt ends were delicious and the pulled pork was very moist. I’d also recommend the beans and mac n cheese. I will definitely be back!

Phenomenal addition to the Westland /Canton area. I live nearby and have attended five times since they opened. I’m impressed at what they are trying to do, and how they are executing it. They are making their food from scratch, have an extensive craft draft beer selection($ 4 pints; was $ 3 when they opened), plan a Bourbon library, and are considering some sort of artisan cocktail program. And the staff members are fun and experienced. The new owners have totally revamped the inside, unifying what had been disparate spaces into a unified whole, opened it all up, cleaned it all up, and completely revamped the bar. Also, they have somehow managed to recruit experienced restaurant professionals, as well as young novices who are enthusiastic about becoming properly mentored professionals. This may become the first destination restaurant in a five to ten mile radius, if not a wider swath. To give you an idea of my restaurant sensibility, here’s the area places that hold my approbation: Tony Sacco’s pizza in Canton, Burger Basement over by the IKEA, and to some extent Ashley’s for the beer selection and outdoor biergarten. I’m a long term customer of what had been Beaver Creek, a Westland maintain for 25 – 30 years. Like many locals I was suspicious of it being purchased and extensively transformed. Beaver Creek was not a great restaurant or a great bar, but it was OK and had some points to recommend it. The typical person who likes chain restaurants had no complaints: predictable menu executed well enough, modest beer tap selection with a few crafts, and a friendly staff. I’m a food nerd and used it for the Guinness tap combined with extensive happy hours located 1m from my home; I rarely ordered food, but when I did it was OK. The new incarnation as Grindstone is a transformation. The new owners have put seasoned people in charge of the kitchen, bar, and waitstaff, respectively. The facility remains under«soft» opening as they test, tweak, and experiment. The chef is excited about a menu that he is building from the ground up, based on a coherent vision premised on the slow cooking method of «smoking», which is a special form of BarBQ. The bar manager is trying to strike a balance between the ordinary expectations of the area’s plebeian populace, while introducing the burg’s first artisan liquor option, using authentic professional bartenders. I’ll be attending more often, and ordering more food, more frequently. Was harder to drive past knowing there’s $ 3 pints of craft beer, but still a temptation at $ 4.

Wonderful and exciting changes being made here. Unique items are available that you cannot find anywhere else in this area. Great atmosphere! The owners, managers, and staff are working hard to set Grindstone Smokehouse up for success, they care about every aspect and won’t stop until it everything is perfect and every guest feels like family.

Great pulled pork and coleslaw. The coleslaw was spicy and tasted if there was some horseradish in the sauce. Looking forward to a full menu. Pulled pork was offered, but not pull pork sandwiches. Can’t wait to try to brisket and the rest of the menu. I saw one oddity: Several slices of bacon attached to string with clothespins. Hope the string and clothespins are not reused. Clothespins can not be sanitized. I hope they drop this practice. It looked amateurish. Much prefer the BBQ served on butcher’s paper on a small tray. It would also cut down on the dishes. Last note, I have no desire for karaōke or live music. With large crowds and wait times during the opening week, entertainment is an unnecessary distraction. Focus on the food.
