May not be the flashiest shop, but they get things done. I live out of state but spend summers in PGH with family. I ship my bike via Bike Flights. Scholls is super cool about building and breaking it down for about $ 20 bucks. Nearby shop(Wexford) wanted $ 60 for same service. Keep it simple, support your local shop. Go to Scholls.

Went there today to get the tires on my bike fixed. I haven’t used it in years and they were flat. I also wanted to get my bike lubed before using it again as it has been a while. The person that waited in me was most helpful. I ended up buying a bike rack but when I went to pay he just said he would add it to me bill. Who does this these days! Wonderful.

Great bike store. Went in for my first bike since college with the mindset that grown up bikes are either mountain bikes or hunched-over, skinny tire road bikes, and I wanted a mountain bike because I didn’t want a hunched-over skinny tire road bike. The guy steered me towards comfort bikes and hybrids and I was initially insulted because hey those are for old people! But, no pressure, he let me order a mountain bike… which I then sheepishly cancelled because you know the hyrbrid really is more my style. Got a great deal on a Gary Fisher Tiburon which has been serving me well over 2 years now for family biking on the many area rail trails. My husband and son have also gotten bikes from them. Had a part break on my son’s bike a few months after buying it and they replaced it, no questions, no hassle — some little bit having to do with the shifters. No pressure to buy more bike than you need and no dirty looks when you bring in a little kid Huffy for repairs. They’ll even give advice for free — I thought I needed a new chain but I just needed to move the back wheel back, he told me how and it was easy peasy. Bike prices below MSRP and discounts on parts for the first month after your purchase. If they don’t have what you need for a DIY repair, they will order it and have it usually within 2 days. The Warrendale store is brighter and probably better stocked than the West View store, but the West View store is closer to me so that is where I tend to go. It’s an old family business and the main guys are two brothers — one is more personable than the other — but everyone I have encountered here is knowledgeable. From a friend in EMS I’ve heard they also help out a lot with our local(Shaler) bike rodeo for kids which gets them brownie points in my book. I feel good supporting a local bike shop that helps out in the community.
