We were the only ones there and it took about 10 minutes for anyone to come get our order. When they went back we could hear the microwave running and then we saw a little cockroach by the table. Needless to say I grabbed my kids and left. Will definitely not be going back.

Broth was good, slow service for being the only person in the restaurant. They really cleaned the place up nicely. The veggie tray needed some love and attention, they skimped on it.

I came here because the review is good on this place. I’m not sure how people write good reviews for this place. The drinking water they offer really does taste like detergent. I’m not sure what they are doing there… It’s disgusting. The soap is very mild which is not a bad thing but it’s mild to the point that I don’t think they spend much time making the broth. When I went into the restaurant, there was no other customers but several tables still had dirty dishes left on the table. Not a good first impression.

Great Phở selection. Phở was some of the best I’ve tried. The noodles were perfect, and the vegetable were fresh and crisp. The food will keep me coming back. I would have given a 5 stars but, The building is a little old dining area is out dated. It was also freezing cold in the main dining area.

This place is solid. Phở is good and portions are large. Meat(beef flank/steak) slices are a little small, but tender and flavorful. Nice fresh bean sprouts and condiments. Great prices.

This place is really good but it’s nothing to look at. They’re pretty consistent with their phở but one time I never got basil and I just assumed they were out, it’s not the deal breaker for me. But I love basil. Try the number 14 phở, it’s loaded with protein goodies

The ice water tasted like dirty dish water. That was a really bad first impression, especially considering that our coffees and soups are made using the same water. I am unsure whether it is psychological, but everything tastes like dirty dishes after drinking the ice water. We eat Vietnamese often and ordered our usual right away. We waited for over 20 minutes for our gi cun to arrive. There was only one other table so we weren’t sure why service was so poor. My partner announced that he’s never before had bad summer rolls. He says they are worse than the bathroom at Panda Express. I haven’t been to any of those, so I can’t report about that but they were not edible. The sauce was goopy, lumpy, and crusted on the sides of the cup as if it were microwaved. The«pork» was more like imitation crab meat. They don’t prepare the drip coffee table side, which was disappointing. With the whole dishwater problem, it was more like janitor juice anyway. Then there was the phở. The noodles were not freshly prepared and therefore stuck together in a giant clump. This resulted in us overloaded with three typical servings of noodles in each bowl. The broth seems to conceal the janitor juice quite well, but the adhered clump of vermicelli was a single unit that prevented access. Perhaps it was better this way. Nothing about this experience was positive. There is decent phở in Utah, but you won’t find it at this place. All I can assume is that the positive reviewers here are representative of the typical Utahrds that frequent the many chain restaurants around town.

I have to say it: this is the best phở I’ve had in Utah. Now maybe that’s not saying too much – we’ve been lamenting the dearth of quality asian restaurants ever since moving back to SLC from Southern California. Nevertheless, this is phở I can get behind wholeheartedly, even if the appearance/ambience might not be quite what you’d expect from a 5-star rating. Like so many other reviewers, I went with the immensely popular #14 combo, which has flank steak, tendon, and meatballs. Since m’lady and I normally opt for vegetarian phở, I tried to negotiate for an option that did not have meatballs – my past experience with meatballs in phở has never been good – usually crumbly, greasy balls of meat that I can do without. Much to my surprise, the meatballs here were actually quite good(there was only one quartered meatball in my soup, and that was probably based on the conversation I had had with the person who took my order). Also as per how we normally order food, I got my soup to go. The one meatball was in the broth(which was good, added flavor, and demonstrated the strength of the ball – wow what a ball!!), and the flank and tendon were in a separate carry-out box with the noodles. This worked out perfectly. The flank was fresh and flavorful, as was the broth and vegetables. All in all it was a perfect phở. One note on the location – many reviewers have noted the ‘actual address.’ That made me a bit concerned as I was ordering and heading over to pick up my order. I came to understand these directions after I drove up and down Redwood Road in utter confusion, and called the restaurant for directions – the location is indeed 2899 South Redwood Road, which is in the east side of the street, in an intensely bleak looking strip of empty shops. The sign for Phở 99 is difficult to read even when you’re standing next to it, so just set your GPS and trust it when it says«You have arrived,» because you have.

I’m skeptical when it comes to eating phở at any restaurant to be honest because nothing beats my moms home made phở! But I gave this place a try, my bf took me here for the first time since we were craving for something brothy and warm and I’ll have to say I like it surprisingly I mean it still doesn’t beat my moms phở but enough to satisfy my taste buds haha doesn’t taste like they added any msg which is good definitely will come back.

I’m a fan. Their Phở tastes a little less flavorful than some other Phở places(Phở Saigon) but at least it tastes like it has less MSG. Their Phở Tai(steak) and Ga(chicken) are both pretty good. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Not super busy here at lunch so if you’re in a rush, this might be a good place to go.(Phở Saigon and Green Papaya can be like a zoo at lunch).

I love this place. I’ve been a regular since I moved to Utah 3 years ago. I live in Ogden and I eat there 2 – 3 times a month. It’s my family’s go-to place for a satisfying bowl of phở. Their phở is delicious and affordable. One critic I have is just to simply have more beverages, but other than that it’s awesome. The owners are very friendly people and they remember what we always get which is usually phở #14 or we switch between bbq pork fried rice and the vermicelli bowl #26. I highly recommend this place.

Great little place — the owner is a cute Vietnamese lady and the phở is huge with tons of noodles and meat for really cheap. It always seems pretty empty when we come, but the phở is delicious. The broth is delicious and it’s all around an excellent little find out in West Valley. I’ve been a few times and she always remembers us. Might even go tonight!

I thought the flavors of the broth were delicious! I got just a basic phở with tofu and veggies to go and wasn’t disappointed.

The Phở was pretty good here, I loved the broth as it was very fragrant, the noodles were perfectly cooked, the veggie plate had all fresh vegetables which are a must for Phở. Service was fast and attentive. What I didn’t like was the sticky table, the condiments were all sticky and filthy as everything I touched wasn’t clean. I think I will get a to-go order new time as the Phở was very delicious.

I always get the #14 combination beef Phở which has all the different cuts of beef including tripe and meatball. The broth is really good. Portion size is quite generous for the price. I want to say that if you don’t have a hearty appetite you’ll likely not be able to finish the Phở. I’ve only seen 3 workers here, the duo husband-and-wife owners and an older woman who helps in the kitchen and brings out food. I’ve seen the son on occasion, but he usually just directs me where to sit. The wife is very nice and soft spoken and she usually takes my order. If you come often enough, she’ll likely remember your order if you are consistent. They always bring me a glass of ice water before I even order, but maybe because I’ve been here often enough they know I ONLY want ice water. Ambiance –wise, it’s kind of a rundown joint, but really, I’m just there for the food, I could care less. It does literally feel like a Phở restaurant in Vietnam that you see on those travel shows like No Reservations or Bizarre Foods. Food is good enough that you are willing to overlook other details. I think as long as there’s a roof over my head while I’m eating, and the AC is cranking on a hot day, I’m happy with the environment. There is a TV which is tuned to local news or daytime soaps. I don’t get why people keep posting to the listing for the wrong address. I’ve contacted Unilocal multiple times to fix the address on the other listing or merge the two but they never do. Anyway, this is the real address for Phở 99: 2899 S Redwood. Overall I like this place a lot, and willing to drive up from as far as Draper/Riverton to eat here.

It’s been a couple years since my first visit here. I wish I had returned sooner and more often because their food have definitely improved by great measures. The exterior is anything but fancy. Old brick walls and a white sign with«Phở 99» written in red. The interior doesn’t tell you otherwise. There’s a fresh water fish tank that you can not miss when entering the place and there wasn’t much else for decoration. Plain and simple and I actually enjoyed the simplicity. It reminds me of most restaurants in Vietnam, same hole in the wall feel and nice smell of phở broth as you enter the place. They have all the condiments, silverware and paper napkin dispensers right at your table so it’s a big plus. And for those who didn’t know, that’s how restaurants in Vietnam do their business; it’s convenient for the owner and consumers alike. The menu is very simple and straight forward with only the most popular Vietnamese dishes. Around 40 — 50 choices to choose from. When it comes to bang for your buck, Phở 99 is a champion. The phở only comes in 1 size here and in terms of noodles and meat, it’s considered a large at most other places… at under $ 7. Wow. They also give you the option of additional meat, meatballs, and noodles for extra. As always, I ordered the special phở(phở dac biet), and my friends both got the Bun Bo Hue’s. Our food took a good 10 minutes to arrive. They were hot and freshly prepared. The Phở broth was really good here, comparable to Asia Palace. It was slightly oily but that fatty taste went away after two or three spoonfuls so I can’t really complain. The meat came in fresh and plentiful amount, nicely cooked. The flank was a bit fattier than what I am used to but it was a nice change to my surprise. The noodles had a nice chew to it and was very well cooked. Their garnishing plate came with your usual phở veggies that were fresh and in generous amounts, but no culantro. Can’t complain about no culantro at this price though. Overall, we really enjoyed our food and was even more happy with the price. We paid less than $ 20 altogether for three fulfilling bowls of noodles. What a steal! The food quality here is a solid 4 stars. But at the insanely low price that they charge, they are definitely worthy of a 5 stars. Highly recommended.
