We ate at Kona the night before it closed. We were wondering why they were out of everything that we tried to order, until we found out about the establishment closing the following day.

Good service food was good. Gave the feel of a large chain restaurant. I know this is a chain, just saying it felt like an Applebee’s or something. It is not a sushi restaurant as stated. They are more of a all around American menu type place.

Came here for lunch the other day with WBFF Sabina and we had a three hour giggle & laugh fest in the cooling comforts of Kona… Lunch time is perfectly quiet here– and it’s right across the street from our salon stomping grounds Anushka. .The new raspberry Cosmopolitan is AWESOME. I had my usual seweed salad & a spider roll and it was de-lish and not heavily fried. SUPERYUMMY! Have to keep my abs! Kona was perfect to go to. Great food and atmosphere. :)

My God, the spicy tuna roll and the salmon sashimi were out of this world. The fish is so fresh at Kona Grill that I ate a raw sweet shrimp. Kona Grill has Pad Thai and Hibachi Steak, but I really came for the sushi, and I was not disappointed. I tried the snow crab roll, Las Vegas Roll, Philadelphia Roll, California Roll, spicy tuna roll, and tons of nigiri and sashimi. I definitely recommend the spicy tuna(chunks). I did have a little problem with a few people at the table getting a couple drops of water from the ceiling — condensation — but the service was excellent.

Went there Saturday night and there was immediate seating outside. The shrimp chicken wraps were really good and I ordered a Skiwi Kiss sans the splenda(it doesn’t need any added sweetener). The sushi was taking a while so they brought over a comped appetizer. When the sushi came out it was really, really good(esp the salmon wasabi sashimi). Our waiter was very attentive and the manager also came over to check on us. Make sure to go on the website and sign up to be a «KonaVore» to get a free appetizer. I love this place.

Don’t eat here. It is not a sushi place, it is not a hawaiian place. It is a place… The salmon skin roll is the best if you like salmon jerky, the pot stickers are so freaking good if you like boiled empanadas. The udon noodles… I remeber one time I ate boiled squirel because otherwise I would have starved and someone dared me, just sayin… Go there if you are cool and you pop your collar. Don’t go here if your are from anywhere where you know this isn’t cool.

The ambiance and Staff deserve a 5. It was my first time there and my server was phenomenal. Full of suggestions and infomration, she made it a very pleasent experience. My drink was amazing! I dont remember it’s name but it was around $ 9 in a martini glass and had sake, peach schnapps and lemonade. If you dont like the taste of alcohol its wonderful! Starters we ordered the edamame and pot stickers both really good. I’d ask for the salt on the side for the edamame next time as they were super salty. My meal consisted of several different rolls: shrimp tempura rol: eh–($ 6) crab crunch roll: eh+($ 6) fiery shrimp roll: eh($ 6) and the volcano roll: i should have stopped with the shrimp. The texture of this one was too much for me.($ 8) In this case I think you get what you pay for. They were cheap rolls that were just ok. I left full, they werent bad, just ok, so good enough. I wouldnt come back on my own for anything other then that drink I dont know the name of lol… but if someone wanted to go, since it’s cheap, I’d be ok with it. My mother had the miso-sake marinated sea bass, which was amazing! ONly thing is the portion was so small she ended up ordering another order of potstickers to not leave hungry. So in summation, staff A+, location A+, food C O-Woww Factor: you can bring your fur baby to dine with you in their outdoor seating. Sun-Thur: 11am to 10pm Fri-Sat: 11am to 11pm The bar staying open an hour later each night.

At the bar only– between 3 – 7 mon– fri and 1 – 5 on Saturdays they have $ 3.25 apps(mostly sushi rolls — excellent!) $ 4.75 items– potstickers, chicken n shrimp wraps, chicken satay, avocado roll, ahi wonton crisps, or brownie. $ 5.00 items are calamari, sliders, sweet n spicy shrimp or taco’s. On their $ 5.50 menu there r several pizza choices. Draft beer is $ 3.50. I have been twice now n the food has been very good with attenative bartenders. I think it’s a great deal too!

The look of the place, the ambiance, and the friendly staff give Kona Grill 5 stars. I just feel it is a bit overpriced. I don’t think there is enough competition(Asian fusion) in the CityPlace/Palm Beach area to have such steep prices for sushi and noodle dishes! We ordered a few rolls and an appetizer for the three of us, and they were all very, very delicious. The food is extremely good and well-prepared(though, again, a bit overpriced) and was given to us speedily. When we were ready for a few more rolls, we were told by our waiter that there would be a bit of a wait because a large group just placed their orders as well. We said it was fine… but after 40 minutes of waiting, we asked how much longer. He then said it would be another 20 minutes. An hour for sushi? No, thanks. We asked for our check, at which point the manager came to our table and explained that an entire batch of sushi rice had been ruined and it takes a long time to make new sushi rice, hence the abnormally long delay. He gave us a discount and offered to get us coffee, which we declined. We were very, very happy at how professional the manager was and despite the fact we couldn’t get our last rolls, I think we’ll be back(as long as I don’t have to pay!).

I don’t know what all the hype about this place is. I went once a few months ago and we really disliked the food. Service was good. Maybe I just ordered the wrong food or it was an off day because alot of people seem to enjoy it… Hmm?

Something different to try if you are in Cityplace. I came here with a old co-worker of mine and it’s fair for lunch. It’s not the best, but it’s not the worse either. I had a caesar salad with a grilled chicken wrap, which was under the perfect pairings. Yes, I didn’t have any veggies in the wrap and it was alright. I liked the outside patio area where we sat at since there’s plenty of room and it’s perfect if there is a breeze. I took note of the macadamia nut chicken to try if I go back again.

I visited Kona Grill recently with a large group(~15 people) for happy hour on a week night. When we arrived around 9pm, the restaurant was essentially empty. We sat in the bar area and had a friendly waitress, however she was overworked. We tried to get drinks from the bartender directly, but he refused and said we had to order from the waitress. When our food arrived, we had too many plates to fit on the high top tables and our bartender argued with members of our party about whether or not they could sit at the bar with their food since there was no room at the tables. Note that the restaurant was basically empty as was the bar area apart from our group, it’s not like we were preventing anyone from accessing the bar. I also overheard the bartender arguing with someone from a different group when we were getting ready to leave. Overall, the food and atmosphere were par for the course of restaurants at CityPlace, although the food is expensive if you don’t go at happy hour. The behavior of the bartender lowered my rating from average to below average.

I have been to Kona Grill for dinner on two occasions and must say that I do enjoy the food although I do not feel it is really fine food. It is still pretty delicious. My brother and I like to come here and pig out since it is decently priced and has some sushi as well as steaks, fish, and other slightly Asian inspired(not Chinese food) fair. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and the bar area where we always sit is comfortable. The place is not exactly a happening spot but it was full when I went. We started off with the chicken satay, avocado egg rolls and a spicy tuna roll. The satay was very good served with an Asian slaw and dipping sides of peanut sauce and another sauce that I can’t remember. My affinity for peanuts did not allow me to try the other sauce. The deep fried avocado egg roll was surprisingly good and not overly greasy to boot. The spicy tuna roll was spicy and tasted fresh but was nothing beyond standard. For my main course I had the sea bass marinated for a full 24 hours(allegedly) in a miso sauce served with pork and shrimp fried rice and mixed vegetables. My brother had the strip steak. My fish was quite good texture and flavor wise although I wish the miso flavor rang through a bit better. The pork and shrimp fried rice was salty and addictive and the mixed vegetables were sauteed nicely and rounded out the meal well. My brother’s steak was good but not steak house good. The potatoes served with his dinner were creamy. I was glad I went with the fish. The drinks here are also made pretty well. Service was good too. Kona grill is a good middle of the road restaurant with some different menu choices that have been pretty kind to me so far. I will continue to go back.

«best happy hour» is no lie. went with 2 friends: fish tacos, pizza, sushi, passion fruit crème brulée(a la carte, not happy hour)…washed down with a huge sake bomber and margarita, all for around 10 bucks per person and one didn’t drink. interior very inviting with massive aquarium but we opted to sit outside. generous portion sizes, left very satisfied, couldn’t stomach arepas on Clematis afterward as planned

Being a seafood lover and living around the corner from Kona Grill, you would think I would eat there all the time. However, the food is so average that I never go out of my way to eat there. The drinks were expensive, the food was bland, and the service was bad. Oh, and the sushi gave everyone a stomach ache. Maybe it’d be better for happy hour, where everything is heavily discounted, perhaps the food would be actually worth the price.

Nice spacious patio, great location. Not sure about the usual foot traffic, but there were about 5 patrons at most when we dropped by for lunch @ memorial weekend. The service was good, nice atmosphere, good selection of music. The food(sushi) tasted fresh, was well made and was nicely presented. The proportions are decent. Seems like they have some good happy hour deals going on as well, so I would def. check it out again if I am at Cityplace.

Pretty decent place. Food has an asian flair, which is a nice change from typical bar food and the price is definitely right. Happy hour dishes range from $ 3 — $ 5 and you get decent sized portions. The food was delicious. My server was great and very attentive to keeping the drinks coming. The manager that was there though has an attitude and no professionalism, and especially doesn’t know a thing about the service industry. Other than that though, I had a good experience, and the food was great.

«An American Grill with an Asian Twist» We were told this by our hostess as she seated us, then by our waitress, and I think we heard that from the waitresses nearly five times around us as we dined here. So it must be true… The ambiance of the décor made the place seem fancy perhaps, but the atmosphere of the diners, the hostesses and the waitresses did indeed make the place seem semi-casual, which fits the bill for a new trendy restaurant. The area lighting was indirect by way of a fantastic umbrella system for soft lighting, plus one small direct lamp for each table, keeping it intimate. The prices ranged from 5 – 12 $ for our appetizer, 12 – 18 $ for a non-fish entrée, and 21+ for a «fresh» catch dinner. The sushi priced from $ 22 for a 13 piece sampler(with a Miso starter) to 30 for an 18+ piece sashimi dinner. A-la Carte sushi rolls were available. My date had the Pan-Asian noodles(she asked for it vegan, which they DID apparently provide) which she claimed were wonderful, but easily enough for 3 meals, rather than one small dinner. However if we would not have had the appetizer, maybe it would make 2 meals. The sushi was tasted fresh and light, not too old, nor waiting long, nor just off the ice. Nigh perfect, or if not, very close. The deserts come in both LARGE(mother humongous) and individual sizes, for those who don’t wish to die from over-sugar shock. The waitress was polite, quick, and not too social. I would certainly recommend the night spot to those seeking something slightly different from the normal steak joint.

Nice restaurant, decent service, nice presentation of food… the food itself was alright. It wasn’t the greatest and it wasn’t terrible. Nor did it taste the freshest. I was kind of disappointed with the salmon sashimi because I was hoping it would be more flavorful and fresher. All-in-all it was a pretty good experience. I’d eat here again but I wouldn’t go out of my way to do it.

We went to Kona Grill this weekend for dinner, with some high expectations. I’m not sure why I assumed this place was fancier than it was but it’s a little more casual than I expected. Not in a bad way though… The place has a relaxing feel, they have a big outdoor patio, giant fish tank over the sushi bar a great«dinner» atmosphere and the staff was friendly and helpful without being too«hover-y». I wasn’t overly over-the-moon about the food but the sushi was fresh and made well. I ordered a Pad Thai dish despite the specialty being a macadamia nut encrusted chicken dish that sounded great. I just can’t ever bring myself to order chicken while out. Food was all good, tasty but this is one of those places where the portions are HUGE. My Pad Thai was enough to feed 4 people. We split a dessert based on the waitresses recommendation: the apple crisp… totally delicious but again, a little on the huge side. However they do have a really wide variety. from sushi to thai to fish, ribs, pasta… anyone can find something to eat here and leave more than full. I’d recommend this place for larger groups who like to share. They do have a full bar and some interesting signature drinks. I might not go back often but I’d go back for the sushi or maybe lunch after shopping around City Place.
