Great sandwich. Not expensive at all; you get what you pay for. Cold cuts were fresh and high-quality. Fresh, soft roll. Very pleasant staff.

This place got a new owner and that changes everything. The breakfast there is simply awesome and the staffs are very friendly. Definitely coming back.

The cold cuts, fresh bread, friendly staff are all the same, and the prices are still on the high side, but they seem to have gotten better with regards to efficiency. It’s still not what I would call speedy service, but it is definitely better. Unless you’re really in a rush, you should be ok. Not quite a full star better, but getting there.

I have to disagree with a lot of the other reviewers; however, my experience has ONLY been with breakfast. I have to pass the Deli Guy every single day after dropping my daughter at school and while it isn’t easy for me to get to, they make it worth a stop. In a nutshell, they make an excellent TEC(That’s a Taylor Ham, Egg and cheese for all you Non-Jersey folks) for a reasonable price. In all honesty, it’s better than the regular bagel place I go to near my house. The coffee here is also pretty good. I’m usually picky about getting coffee in a little place like this because it usually sits around until it’s stale, but The Deli Guy makes some pretty good coffee. too. So, for breakfast at least, I’m a fan and I will continue to stop by once in a while for good coffee, a TEC, and good prices. Also doesn’t hurt that I always get a big hearty ‘Good Morning!’ and service with a smile.

Deli guy deli guy… Wish this a better review but it’s not. This place is EXTREMELYOVERPRICED. 10 dollar small tuna salad. $ 3 up charge for extremely thin eggplant slices. Sandwiches are so over priced and not worth the money. I get it, there’s not much in this area. There’s a high school down the street. Why not make more money?! Because it’s cheating. Not worth it.

Terrible experience. The place is sparse. I asked the owner if the pastrami was good. I should have known from his wishy washy answer not to get it. It was more than half fat. Just awful. And expensive for the little bit that you got. I’ll never go back.

way overpriced for a tiny sliver of grilled chicken and barely any fresh mozzarella(which btw they charge extra for) first and last time I go there!

One of the best delis for sandwiches, breakfast and lunch. Love this place, friendly staff and great Food. It takes a bit long to receive your but definitely worth the wait. Also the hours open aren’t the most convenient.

The sandwiches are actually really good! Unfortunately, the prices are just way to high. Worth a try, but be prepared to pay!

I used to work in West Orange and The Deli Guy was a staple in my lunchtime routine. I found that the corned beef Sloppy Joe was superb! Not many people outside of the North Jersey area know about this kind of Sloppy Joe. This is not ground beef with sauce on a roll. The sandwich I am referring to was concocted at The Town Hall Deli in South Orange in the 1930’s. This is made using very thin slices of rye bread, russian dressing, coleslaw, and your choice of meats, usually corned beef, pastrami, or turkey. At The Deli Guy they make a very respectable version of this classic sandwich, and they use some of the freshest and softest rye bread I have ever had,(a pickle and chips are included with your meal). I have also tried their chicken sandwiches which aren’t bad, but are nowhere as good as the cold cuts. This place is not cheap, but is not outrageously priced either. If you find yourself in the vicinity of West Orange give The Deli Guy a try, it’s certainly worth it.

The Deli Guy is situated in a small shopping strip mall along Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange NJ. It is well established, having been there for many many years. It is a simple, clean looking place that accomodates several dining tables. They do serve a wide array of sandwiches, from simple ham and cheese to many variations, dressings, etc. They have pretty much all the fixins, and many cooked meats, such as fried or grilled chicken cutlets, vegetarian options including eggplant sandwiches, the list seems endless. The sandwiches are pretty good. I wouldn’t say great or anything extraordinary, but decent. But there are a couple of major flaws with this place. One is the price. It is outrageous for what you are offered. You would think at these prices they would throw in some chips or slaw/salad on the side — but no. Most places do, the deli guy does not. If he’s not going to do that, he should lower his prices. Second, the service is very slow. I wasn’t even there during peak hours, and they took forever to make the sandwich. It seems the communication between the deli guy and his employees is not the best, and that confusion slows things down. If the sandwich were truly extraordinary, it may be worth the wait, but it isn’t. Nevertheless, the place seems to be a local favorite.

Yummy! Great pastrami sandwich. Little pricey, actually very pricey, but it was a solid sandwich. Def. worth a try if you’re in the area.
