EDIT: so, just a heads up (and I’ve attached the screenshots) the owner of this place is out of her mind. She obviously can’t take criticism, and will resort to harassment if she doesn’t agree with your review.
I have talked to other Unilocalers who have had the same experience. This is completely unacceptable from ANY business owner or person. If I didn’t like this place before, I absolutely HATE it now. Save your money for one of the MUCH better and much more professional nail salons in Des Moines. This place is a joke.
Yeah, I gave this place another shot and I just can’t do it.
The first time I came, the woman doing my nails seemed really peeved and annoyed. She was very aggressive with how she did my nails, and when she waxed my eyebrows (which are naturally thick) she kept pointing out how thick they were. I told her that’s how I liked them, and would just like a little clean up. Instead she made them INCREDIBLY thin, and not to mention uneven. I’ve never had such a bad eyebrow wax in my life!
I also got a pedicure the first time I went in. The manager (I think that’s who he was) sat down and started talking to me. At first I thought this was just a nice gesture. Ended up being him telling me my husband (who is a pilot) probably cheats on me, and I on him (I’m a flight attendant). Uhhh… Thanks?
Even though completely inappropriate, I’ve just moved to the area and hoped I just had a bad first experience, so I decided to come back for a fill. Bad idea.
The manager was actually nice this time and kept his inappropriate comments to himself, so I felt a little bit better coming back.
But I did have the same nail lady. Even more rude, even more aggressive, and even more nasty than the first time. I asked her if I could look at the gel colors. She threw the basket at me then started telling me to pick from the selection she had at her desk… Um, can’t you just get up and grab the color I actually want?
I don’t recommend coming here at all. I am a very loyal customer when I receive good service, but I think this was my last time here.

UPDATE: After writing my review the owner sent me a nasty message on Unilocal (attached a pic down below) I don’t know who in their right mind would own a business and talk to her customers like that. I highly recommend driving the extra mile to find a different place to get your nails done and avoiding this place at all cost. Both times when I went in there there was not one other person in the salon and now I see exactly why. Rude staff, PSYCHO owner and they’re not good at doing nails either. Can’t wait to bring my business to a salon that deserves it.
The WORST nail salon in all of Des Moines I would NEVER go back there or recommend it to anyone. The woman that did my nails was beyond rude and unprofessional. She kept asking me if i had cash on me and I repeatedly told her no and she rolled her eyes every time i said no. She was super aggressive while filing my nails, and kept trying to shove her gel nail polish down my throat with a «free design» for 15 dollars more. She «didn’t want my wet nails to get ruined» when she was all done but was basically shoving me out the door when it was time to pay so she actually OPENED MY PURSE and STARTED GOING THROUGH IT looking for my wallet and asked me AGAIN if i had cash. I got acrylic tips on Sunday and by Monday morning one already came off. They gave me a hard time about fixing it when I went back in Monday afternoon but they fixed it. It is now Tuesday night and 7 of my nails have fallen off. Completely ridiculous, I would stay far away from there.

Great place! The staff was super sweet and quick. I came in for an impromptu pedicure and they were able to get me in and out in no time. Leg massage, shaved my callouses and my toes look great.

I walked in on Sunday with my 9 years old grand daughter to do pedicures. Our nail tech were both very nice but we were kind of upset when one of the lady there was trying to push us to do deluxe pedicure. I believe she is the manager. Our bills costed $ 90 sth. We tipped the nail tech cuz they did such great jobs. After leaving tips, the total is $ 102. Holly crape!!! The manager said your total $ 40 and your 9 years old is $ 40 too. Could not believe it!!!

It’s to bad that my review has resorted to now harassing me… about my review. Let it go. Sometimes people aren’t happy and they then Unilocal about it. I’m not trying to «ruin» anyone’s business. I just happened to have had a bad experience on the day I visited, which is the ENTIRE point of Unilocal.I’m glad you have new ownership and maybe things are better now, but my review still stands as that was my experience on the day I visited. The actual mani/​pedi was fine, it was everything else from a customer experience that I had a problem with. Oh, I definitely do not work for Unilocal,although I’m sure it would be awesome if I did! Please refrain from emailing me anymore on this. Thanks.

Awful place. They are a rip off and like the other reviews said, try to pressure into doing other things. I ONLY gave 3 stars so my review can’t be deleted, but it should really be one star. Will not be returning. Oh and the guy who did my mani/​pedi had his vape (ecig) thing out on the table and kept checking his phone the whole time. So rude. Find a different job if you hate your so much.
Oh, and they advertise as taking all major credit cards and it’s indicated on their door as well, but they really only take Visa and MC, so don’t try to use Discover or Amex.

My family’s experience at Nails and Sandals ended on a sour note. I paid for 3 pedicures, and they charged me more for tax. I have never been charged tax at any nail salon in my life. Still, I tipped more than 20%, and the woman was extremely rude about that! To top it off, they gave us a stamp card with only 1 stamp on it. When we pointed out that we had paid for 3 services, they said it was their policy to stamp only once per card. We will NEVER be returning here.

It was a weekend, so I called ahead to see if I could grab a last minute appointment– very accomodating! I got a gel manicure here, and it was done so well that two weeks later, I don’t have a single chip and the mani is growing out. My cuticles were cleaned well– this part I’m usually pretty picky with, and I was happy with the result. I also got a nice little back massage at the end. A thorough job was done, but I was in-​and-​out efficiently.

WHAT A SHITY PLACE! Don’t ever come here! They will try pressure you to do something that you do NOT want i specifically told them I’m not Vietnamese because I hate when they ask me about my whole family so I told them I was Laos and all I hear from one of the lady is bad talking about us (they’re was 4 of us) she goes quoting, «you need to tell the other two girls to hurry up and choose the color they want because they will take forever choosing it.» Uh… Funny thing we all already knew what we want and we told them exactly what when we first got there. BUT they kept asking one my friends what she wanted and she kept saying French Curls *5 times now* and by the way they only got TWO SPARKLES KIND and it looks CHEAP out of 4 of us ladies only ONE person had a nice legit nails done *BAD SERVICES, AND OVERPRICE $ 66 with manicure and pedicure just plain black and one finger sparkles*I got charge for a sparkles on only one finger as a full design which I should have just done it at home I wouldn’t complain if it looks nice but it looks like my 6 years old can do it AND this is not even HALF OF SHIT THAT HAPPEN THERE!!! And BY THE WAY I’m not writing my review for my money for those dumbasses people out there they can keep the MONEY their service was BAD I don’t even want to step into that place ever again

Was in Des Moines on a business trip and was in dire need of a pedi and found this place on Unilocal.So glad I did. Walked in an was immediately welcomed and seated in a massage chair for my pedi. They did a fantastic job and took great care of me. I even got a shoulder massage at the end. I highly recommend this place and will be back next time I am in town.

i love to have my pedicure done. and since i have bad back. doing the job my self is out of the question. woo… so i end up in nail salon every few weeks. as Always. striving for the good ones out there…
yesterday .i ran into a nice lady while shopping for candles… the colors on her teo nails were so bright and the mobern flowery design on her bigtoe. was very appealing… without any hesitant… i walked towards her and complemented her on the beautiful work they have done for her… of course i asked where she had got it done!!! she replied happily! oh. its «Nail & Sandles «…i said; oh thanks, i will make sure they know that you sent me.
today…i just get done with my pedicure… and welll! i got the whole work. the aroma while kim is giving my feet and legs a message. filled the salon. and while my back and neck was getting message by thier very new message chairs… and the music playing in the background… i really felt while resting my eyes. that i am on my best vacation spots… and the music playing while getting nice message on kaanapali beach in Maui… where we were on our honey moon in Maui… the smell of that fresh lotion they were using… and the relaxation did really carried me back to paradise…
needless to say!!! i am their new customer for very long time hopefully!!!
well…back at home. my husband gave me a nice complement and made him happy to see me coming home very happy and relaxed…
ladies! .you will enjoy it. to… just look at my foot and you will be the judge…
