Having boobs is hard work. There isn’t a Nordstrom here yet. The only other options are Victoria’s Secret, Voluptuous Secrets, or Soma. As my friend’s husband said, «If Victoria gets to keep her secrets, why can’t Voluptuous?» Good question. Regardless, I had no desire to go to either of those, so I opted for Soma Intimates. The salespeople tried, but the service was a bit off. I feel I wasn’t measured properly by the woman working there because the sample bras did not work for me at all and I don’t feel she really addressed my concerns. So the fitting was a failure in my book. She measured me as a 42D and suggested I also try a DD. All 5 bras she brought fit horribly. The basic full coverage bra pushed out to the side. I felt like I’d have to literally do a breast stroke to get my arms in front of me. My fun bags just kinda fell to the bottom of the cup and flattened, leaving enough room to shove a fist into the top half. Luckily, my friend was with me and her mother used to fit bras, so she ended up helping me out and we discovered that the measurements seemed to be correct but the style of bra made all the difference in the world. I tried on something like 20 bras from size 38C-44DD and I was shocked by the results. I should have been the right size for many of the bras she picked out, but I found them to be too big, too small, or horribly shaped. Peter Griffin talks about tasteful sideboob. There was one bra in a 40D that gave me sideboob, but there wasn’t anything attractive about it. And, at least in my opinion, a bra shouldn’t give you sideboob! In the end, I left with 2 bras of different styles that both fit me correctly but are different cup sizes. One is a 40C Vanishing Back Full Coverage Bra and the other a Beautifully Cool Full Coverage Bra in 40D. Oddly enough, the 40D feels a bit tighter. I almost wish I’d gotten a 42″ band for that, but it was on clearance and I’m steadily losing weight. The minimizing bra is smaller but it’s my favorite. It feels like I’m not even wearing a bra! I’m very happy with my purchase, so the trip wasn’t a total bust(ba-dum-chhhh), but it was really stressful and time consuming to have to try on so many different bras without them being consistent enough to narrow it down easily. Also, if I’m going to shop Soma again then I know I’ll have to go to a store, and probably bring my friend, and wouldn’t dare order anything online because what I need would be anyone’s guess. Still, I’m loving my new bras.
