In one word: Nasty. If at all possible — avoid. If absolutely not possible — tough it out and spend as little time in the nasty room as possible. Yes, absolutely check for bed bugs. We were there for the Phish-band weekend extravaganza. If the circumstances were different there is no way in h*ll I would stay here — I’d go elsewhere. The moment I opened the door and stepped into the room I was greeted with a slap in the face of stale musk, mildew, nasty, nasty smell. It was summertime so opened the door and window wide open and I actually sat outside of the room on a plastic chair the majority of the time just to NOT be in the room. One night we actually camped at the festival and that was better, the fresh air, much better. The walls have nasty nasty caked into the walls. Grimy. The beds are awful, smelly, and extremely uncomfortable. Carpets gross. What needs to happen: Some hipsters move into WG buy the owners out and completely gut the place. Rips up and out everything. Clean the walls with bleach. Rip out all the window units, replace the doors, total make-over of the entire place. Make it look like this: That is the only way this dump will be habitable. Until then, it will continue to be a nasty dump.

The room smells very mildewy, moldy. Unhealthy for those with asthma. Depressing and dreary. No clock. No phone. Bathroom small and smells like urine. Carpet filthy. Doesn’t feel secure. OVERPRICED!

This motel was so awful that it was borderline funny. We did not make a reservation because they won’t make advance reservations of less than 2 nights(we were only in town for one night), so when we arrived we were charged an inflated price for a motel room(vs the hotel or manor). I believe that it was about $ 135, though I will double check with the person who paid to make sure. My girlfriend told me that when she asked for a late checkout, the clerk acted annoyed, though she did give us a slightly later checkout. They do not accept AAA(what a surprise!!!). After entering the room, we noticed that the door was not secure. It looked like somebody had previously kicked in the door, and had been«fixed» by somebody with no experience who used the cheapest lock they could find. There was pubic hair on the seat of the toilet. We went back down and requested another room, which they did do. We ended up staying the night in the second room, but that does not mean that it was fine. The phone was sticky. The TV was tiny, and looked like it had been around for about 20 years. There was no fan in the tiny bathroom, which meant that it was completely filled with steam from a short shower. One of the beds had some sort of plastic slip cover over it, and the mattresses were of poor quality. And aesthetically, the room was just plain ugly. All of this was unpleasant, though I might have at least given them 2 stars just because it wasn’t unbearable. But then the morning came. Evidently there had been a group of bikers staying there, and at about 8:30AM they all left their rooms. They all started up their bikes. I am not sure how many there were, but there had to have been a bare minimum of 20 motorcycles, maybe even 40 or more. It was incredibly loud. So loud that my girlfriend and I had to shout just to talk to one another. But I figured I would just grin and bear it for a minute or two and then go back to sleep when they left. But they didn’t leave. They just sat in the parking lot with their bikes roaring away. I have no idea why, but it is needless to say that it was incredibly annoying. Finally, after about 20 minutes of that, they left. I tried to forget about it and just go back to sleep. About 15 minutes later, as I was drifting off, the bikers came back. Once again they just sat in the parking lot with their bikes on. After about 10 – 15 minutes of this, I called down to the front desk. Without recounting the whole conversation, the clerk told me that the bikers had gone to breakfast and come back and that they would leave soon. No apology, no concern for our welfare, no promise to take care of it, only defense of the bikers. After a long, fairly ridiculous conversation with her, I told her that if she wasn’t going to take care of it, then I would have to call the police. She hung up the phone on me. I wanted to wait a little bit longer before taking that action, and thankfully the bikers did finally leave about 5 minutes later, so I didn’t bother calling the cops, as I just wanted to get out of there. The only thing I can guess is that there is a pretty big racing culture in and around Watkins Glen as there is a race track nearby, and that the motel staff first and foremost cater to the whims of the race crowd. Not that that makes it acceptable, but there must be some explanation for the quality of the rooms and the behavior of the staff, because if not I can’t imagine they would still be in business. Another reviewer(Janine) noted that the staff in general were«pretty clueless and display serious traits of not being trained with the basic social skills needed to be in the hospitality business.» That is pretty much spot on. And in general, having experienced what I did, I am not at all surprised at the countless problems reported by other reviewers, on Unilocal and Tripadvisor. My favorites are a toss up between the guest who claimed that the owner stood in the doorway not letting them out, or the guest who claimed that the owner came into their room accusing them of flooding the bathroom floor, only to realize that the floor was shiny. So if you are looking to pay high prices to stay in an ugly, slightly disturbing room and be treated terribly, I would recommend The Villager. But for the rest of us who are not masochists, stay far away. Note: Having said all that, I will say that they had free wi-fi(though at their room rates it didn’t really feel free), and that prior to the biker incident, it was quiet. Unfortunately the bad vastly outweighed the good

This is a motel from Hell. The rooms were horrible smelling of molds or mildew. We 1st arrived @ 11:30pm as a late flight and found to our surprise that we were given a room about the size of a broom closet. We did not have enough room to open suit cases on the floor. We paid 100.00/night with a 2 night min. and I can understand why they charge a 2 night minimum. Because after one night you’ve had enough. The next day we tried to seek other accommodations with no luck so we requested another room which was upstairs with plenty of room, but it had the same musty smell which was appalling. We had four other couples that had the same problems as us. You could tell that they would rather paint than clean.(Like putting lipstick on a pig) The sub flooring seemed rotted as there must have been a bad roof leak @ one time. When you walked on it, you thought you were going to fall through to the first floor. Out of my 30+ years of staying in motels this was rated tops for being the worst that I have ever stayed in!!! The Board of Health and Chamber of Commerce need to be notified as this place gives Watkins Glen a black eye!!! I can go on and on about this place, but no need to. The Villager Motel and Glen Manor offers three separate facilities under one ownership: hotel, motel, and bed & breakfast. Traveling with my husband and parents we stayed in the hotel, although it was really more of a motel with what was provided. The facility was clean and extremely modest but vastly overpriced for what was delivered. I understand that all of Watkins Glen and the surrounding area is pretty pricey, but for two hard beds and the laughable experiences we had with management it’s not exactly worth what was paid for. Yes the staff is friendly, but pretty clueless and display serious traits of not being trained with the basic social skills needed to be in the hospitality business. Thus said they were very attentive to the issue of a leaking toilet discovered our first night there — although they did required us to turn around from over ½ way up the East side of Lake Seneca to pack our things and switch rooms rather than allow us to switch rooms upon our return that evening. The only real benefit we found to staying here was the pool — had to notify management to open it for use although open from 9 – 9 daily — and that it was in town and within walking distance to the few things the area has to offer outside of wineries. Because all I really need is a clean room with hot water, if the prices come down I would consider staying here again in the future; however, until then I think I would look elsewhere.

Reasonably clean and very convenient to «downtown» Watkins Glen. Noisy and vastly over priced even for a holiday weekend in a tourist town. Noisy air condition that didn’t really cool things off. Free Internet but you get what you pay for: intermittent, slow service.
