Healthy Bites has transferred their customers to another larger business called Power Supply and has gone out of business. I’m sorry they didn’t make a go of it but we have found Power Supply meets our needs quite well.

I cannot say enough positive things about Healthy Bites! I used their meal delivery service for 3 months while I was visiting the DC area for work. With no time for cooking, wanting to eat healthy, and trying to avoid the hassle of finding restaurants every day, I ordered 3 meals plus two snacks a day, 7 days a week… all of it was easy, healthy, and delicious with good size portions — I definitely wasn’t going hungry, and I was eating much healthier than I would have otherwise. Reliable delivery twice a week, every time. Great variety, too. Bonnie and her staff were extremely helpful and responsive to any questions. 5 stars, only because I can’t give more!

The ONLY reason this place doesn’t get zero stars is because this app won’t let you pick zero! Ordered a simple, cold sandwich. I was very specific for one ingredient not to be used. I said it twice and she even repeated it back to me. I waited thirty minutes to get my order only to find the one ingredient I asked not to be on there PILED on… I also ordered $ 3.50 sweet potato wedges. They were chips, not wedges and they gave me 6 chips(the reason the order took so long according to staff) while I was waiting I figured I would have a smoothie. That was tough to do since they had 1) No Apple juice 2) No orange juice. So 90% of those drinks were unable to be made. Horrible experience, horrible service, horrible stocking of items. Would NOT go back for free food!!!

Since I work from home, I was looking around my Brightwood neighborhood trying to find a healthy option for lunch and stumbled upon this gem last week. The first time I went there, I had the turkey burger, the garlic kale salad(named after the owner Bonnie) and the jerk wings. 1. The turkey burger was good and it comes with a healthy side salad. 2. The Bonnie(garlic kale salad) was off the chain. The kale had a nice bright green color and was served in some kind of delicious lemony garlic oil dressing. Straight bangin! It also came with a corn muffin which was a nice addition to eat with the salad. 3. While the jerk wings were good, I wouldn’t call them jerk wings, as they didn’t have any spicy kick to them at all. They should be renamed. haha The 2nd time I went to Healthy Bites, I had to get The Bonnie and turkey burger again as these were my favorites from the first trip. I also tried the black bean soup that was recommended by the sista working the counter. She was tellin me how everyone likes the black bean soup there so I decided I’d try it too. The soup was definitely on point! Matter of fact, I’m headed over there right now to scoop up the soup and The Bonnie. I’m out…

My goodness –best gift ever for a new mom! My sister got us a week of food after the birth of our 2nd and everything was delicious, delivery made it so easy, and did I mention the food was divine!?! Even our super picky toddler liked the meals-and that is saying a lot!

This is a good place to stop for a quick to go meal after work. The staff is very friendly and the food is good.

A friend bought us a gift certificate for Healthy Bites, covering home delivery, after our baby was born. Initially we were very pleased with the service and quickly scheduled delivery of four meals for Monday May 26th. This was memorial day, but the drop off time(5 to 9) was confirmed by email twice. On the day of the drop off, I called to see if there was an estimated delivery time as we needed to leave the house briefly. There was a voice message set up saying that Healthy Bites were open 12 to 9pm on that day. I left a voice message and the food never arrived that night. The next day, I received a call back and the manager told me that our food would be delivered that night. I was expecting a bit more of an apology and asked if it would be possible to give a narrower estimate for the delivery time that night. She said that wasn’t possible and meals would be delivered between 5:30 and 9:30 that night. The meals were delivered, but customer service was lacking. This would be a great service for the postpartum period and I thought it was a great idea — but if you can’t reliably know that your meals will be delivered on a certain day, the convenience and helpfulness is totally undermined. The food itself was decent — the stews were much better than the other vegetarian option — tofu stroganoff which was chunks of tofu in a pretty bland sauce with a few pieces of asparagus and some pasta. All in all, I think this is a great idea but should be executed better with better customer service. I wouldn’t have written this poor review had the apology been genuine and perhaps an extra meal thrown in – but the manager’s only explanation was«it wasn’t me who promised to deliver the meals on a holiday.»

Good healthy food. Enough said. Actually, I could say more. Last time I went there wasn’t any real seating there, you’d order and take your food home. But they were going through the slow approval process with the city to get a counter and stools installed, so I think they should have a small seating area for two by now if you want to sit and eat(plus a chair for anyone waiting on food)

Wonderful concept! I soo love the idea of a healthy food restaurant on Georgia Avenue! And the menu is great. The problem is that it seems as if in an effort to be healthy, the chef completely omitted all seasoning! The turkey burger was thick and fresh but was utterly flavorless. I’d like to go back to try something else, but I have to admit that I’m not in a hurry.

I recently ordered 3 meals in advance for my wife and I. Since we live in Petworth, it didn’t seem worth the flat $ 20 delivery fee so we picked up the food from the cute café. No problems there. It was clean, bright and organized and the staff were friendly. The great thing about Healthy Bites is that you purchase meals per person, so we could order a set of vegetarian meals and one with meat. The food was a bit disappointing. One of the meals reminded me of airplane food. Most things were a pretty bland. The fish taco bowl was good, but otherwise I was underwhelmed. For the same price for two meals, we could have bought a higher quality dinner from Scratch DC – which is probably what I will do in the future – or takeout, if we didn’t feel like cooking.

I used the healthy bites delivery service for almost a year and I really loved it. It’s so easy and the meals are really good. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to simplify their life with easy, healthy, pre-made meals.

My recent experience here was interesting. I was looking at neighborhood dining options and saw high ratings for this place. I decided to check it out. It was pretty easy to find. As I was about to open the door, a sign read«be back in 5 minutes.» I was like okay maybe I should just go to another restaurant instead. Then I saw a young female staff sitting inside. I pushed the door to open and asked are you open. She looked at me weird and said yes. I saw the menu on the blackboard and studied for awhile. I decided to go with a breakfast item and ordered an omelette even though it was lunch time. I haven’t had omelette for awhile and saw some Unilocalers saying that is a must try. I placed the order and sat at the only stool there waiting for my food. A police guy came in, clearly knowing the staff, asked the staff«so you will be back in 5 minutes?» She was like what are you talking about? He pulled down the paper sign and joked about it. Then they went to this semi-flirting mode and started talking about white chocolate, dark chocolate, cream cheese, and butter. The police guy didn’t order anything and just said things like well dark chocolate is more health for you and what is wrong with you for not liking it. She was like I just like white chocolate and it tastes like chocolate. She also added I just cannot stand cream cheese. Back and forth. I just sat there awkwardly hoping my food can be ready faster. The police guy then went to the kitchen and started taking in Spanish to the cook and asked how things were. Luckily I didn’t have to wait for long. My food was ready within about 15 minutes, I think. Its«house fries» was interesting and not something I have ever had before. Hard to describe it. I was pretty hungry at that point and just ate without much thinking. The omelette itself was filling but not the best. In fact, it tasted overlooked for me. Food can be pricey here.

WIth a baby and toddler, full time jobs, long commutes, etc, we’ve imploded on the dinner front, resorting to turkey burgers and pasta way too much. Healthy bites to the rescue! So far we’ve had a couple really tasty, healthy, fresh meals. I like the fact that its healthy not punitive and for us the location is great. Each week’s menu has a nice variety of cuisines, options. My only caveat: I find the meals a bit skimpy – not the main(protein) portions, but I’d love a little more sides/salad, which are absolutely delish as well. My husband usually just supplements with some bread and cheese, etc. If you’re not a big eater(my husband is and I am nursing with a larger appetite) its probably fine, and great if you are watching your figure. We are definitely going to try brunch there soon – the menu looks amazing(and though it says carry out, there are a few small tables if you want to down your omelette right there). Love having this business – healthy fresh food – in the ‘hood, its an oasis in a sea of bad chinese and wings…

I bought the Amazon Local voucher for Healthy Bites, and even though my fridge is full of Easter leftovers, I cashed it in this week(mainly because it expires this week, whoops). I could have opted for delivery for an extra $ 20, but as it was my first time ordering Healthy Bites, I wanted to see what it was all about. I got Zipcar and went waaaay up Georgia Ave to pick up my goods. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, and the café looked very simple and welcoming. There seemed to be a lot of options on the walk-in menu. So far, my lunches this week have been phenomenal. It is such a relief to be able to open the fridge in the morning, grab an entrée and a salad, and take them to work knowing I have a healthy lunch ready to go. Yesterday, the salmon with green beans was delicious. Today, the Thai basil chicken with brown rice and sauteed veggies was amazing. Both side salads have been fresh, tasty, and the perfect portion. I’m going to be sad when the quesadillas are gone tomorrow. I wish Healthy Bites’s business location was more convenient(read: metro accessible). But I will probably pony up the $ 20 for delivery soon. Love the idea of this, and that is fairly affordable. It makes packing my lunch way cooler than PB&J!

Take a look at the Healthy Bites website. You’ll see they offer 3 healthful meals a day and two snacks. You can get the full-blown service with 3 meals and 2 snacks every day of the week or you can opt to choose which meals and which days you receive food on an a la carte basis. Last week, we had the opportunity to sample a few of Healthy Bite’s dishes. Spinach Salad with Cranberries, Bleu Cheese and Walnuts with Balsamic Vinaigrette As we usually make a similar salad ourselves, we loved this Healthy Bite. It was just the right serving of spinach, not overdone with dressing or toppings. Simple yet flavorful start to the meal. Curry Carrot Soup When first hearing this dish, our inner 8 year-old selves threw a temper tantrum. Come on Mom, carrot soup? The grown up, food critic in us was telling us to man up and eat our vegetables. So that’s just what we did. Amazingly, we enjoyed it. The carrot spoke for itself but wasn’t overpowering. Although there wasn’t any cream involved in the recipe, the soup had a rich texture and taste. While we think it could have used a little more salt, we’re obviously not nutritionists! Kale, Mushroom and Tomato Sauté with Polenta Polenta is something we have little experience with, but you might see a polenta recipe inspired by this dish popping up on our blog soon. Kale(another underused veggie in our opinion) adds a nice texture along with two of our favorites, tomatoes and mushrooms. Some cheese in there would have been nice, but with beach season coming up, we were happy without it. Parmesan crusted cod with steamed broccoli Here’s where we finally got to satisfy our cheese addiction, a generous fillet of cod topped with golden Parmesan. This was our favorite dish. The light flaky cod with a crispy Parmesan coating gave us that true«full» feeling that can sometimes be missing in healthy meals. Don’t forget to add some steamed broccoli in there to make Mommy proud.

I had a deal through AmazonLocal to try this place, and I’m glad I did. The food is inventive and very tasty. Even the simple garden salads(and they are simple) come with(what tasted like) homemade dressing that was very tangy and flavorful. At the regular prices I can’t see myself coming back here, though. The portion sizes for«dinner» are much more like lunch sizes… or maybe I just eat a lot. Either way, since I can get a decent lunch for less than Healthy Bites sells, it doesn’t make economic sense for me. If I were to buy a full week of meals I guess it gets cheaper, but that’s a LOT of «takeout.» Speaking of takeout, I also wish they didn’t use so many plastic takeout containers — they must generate a TON of garbage for their weekly customers. It’s too bad, because I enjoyed the food a lot. I wish them the best — I just wish they were cheaper.

Thank you, Healthy Bites, You’ve saved me from a diet consisting solely of cereal, tater tots, and beer. Though it appears from the reviews here that lots of folks pick up their meals in-store, I don’t live anywhere near Petworth, and don’t have a car, so I opted for home delivery. Since I’m not back home until past 8 pm, I asked for a delivery later in the evening, which they graciously accommodated. The meals are tasty, healthy, and inventive(my most recent one was cod with pistachio sauce, cranberry quinoa and a side salad), and I appreciate that their ingredients are mostly organic and locally sourced. I also like that the program isn’t something you’re forced into– you order week by week, so you can opt out at any time. The pricing isn’t exorbitant by any means, either. One small quibble regarding the home delivery: I appreciate that they agreed to deliver past 8 pm, but this week they came at 11, which is a bit later than I prefer. This is a minor grievance, though, and my only one so far. Overall, Healthy Bites helps me stick to a healthier diet when I don’t have the time to cook, and the food is pretty good, so I can’t complain.

This place is take out/meal delivery — but if you live in Petworth or are in the area it’s worth the stop. Had a turkey wrap that came with a salad that included raw broccoli and a delicious vinaigrette. Also tried the black bean soup which was different and great(not the usual sludgy black bean and garlic variety — a soup chock full of vegetables and a light broth). All in all it tasted great and left me feeling satisfied and not full and groggy. Heading back soon to sample breakfast on the way to work(they open at 7AM weekdays)!

Although this place seems to do mostly catering and meal delivery, they also have a small takeout area. Be warned: there is no seating. Now that I have that small warning out of the way, I have only great things to say. On the super friendly staff person’s recommendation, I had a steak quesadilla. It was great. Sour cream and salsa were included on the side and it was even in a recycled cardboard to go container. The staff person was incredibly friendly and gave me samples of pineapple and orange juice he was squeezing while I waited. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. The location is a bit random — farther north than the GA ave metro — but as I said, most of their business seems to be meal delivery and catering, not drop in meals. I’m looking forward to coming back for breakfast, which is served at all times of the day.
