I ordered from Eastern Carryout for over 2 years. I tolerated pink, undercooked chicken(I was so hungry I just finished cooking it myself), missing components, and other inconveniences during this time. I eventually returned to ordering from them because I preferred the taste of their sauces and hot and sour soup, and they nearly always delivered in an hour. But I have given up after receiving my last order where my food and soup both tasted charred. Like I spotted actual flakes of burnt char floating in both. Disgusting.

Not so good… pretty bad. Ordered general tso shrimp. 7 small shrimp and a pound of breading… again gross. The dumplings were mushy and not at all crispy. Took and hour to get delivers as well. All and all a big miss.

Your basic Chinese(American Chinese, that is) food take-out joint. Nothing special — large portions for the price(enough for two meals, unless you’re fattie like me). No AMEX but they take Visa and MC(Hammer). General Tso’s is oily as hell, but what do you expect?

Huge portions of MSG-saturated American-style Chinese dishes. If you’ve been to one place like this, you’ve been to a dozen. Nothing fancy but I would come again when a hankering for generic Chinese food hits.

I LOVE Eastern Carryout. It’s not that it’s the best food you’ll ever have. It’s not that they have the most amazing service of all time. It’s the fact that it’s always there for me when I’m hungry. Although it’s technically a Chinese takeout restaurant, I have only gotten Chinese food here twice. My go-to meal is actually their gyro sandwich, which is delicious. When my fiancé and I order here, we’ll get two sandwiches, an order of chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and crab rangoons(which are free if you spend more than $ 20 on Eat24.) That entire meal is less than $ 30 after delivery and tip. The food reheats surprisingly well, which justifies putting in such a gluttonous order. I love crab rangoons, and these are delicious. The food is consistently good, and if you order for pickup, they’re pretty quick too. A great go-to place for nights when you just want to eat some good greasy food.

Staying in Washington for Thanksgiving weekend for a bit of solo traveling and I came across this gem of a place– thanks to Unilocal. After squeezing two Smithsonian museums and the Nation’s Capital, I was famished. People were starting to look like chicken nuggets! Being that it was Thanksgiving, 99% of the takeout restaurants were closed, but not this place! The food was Pippin hot and delicious. Totally recommend them if your in the area and need delivery

Good warm food for a small mainly carryout place. Three tables to eat it– we decided to use one. Friendly service with a smile! Would go back.

Being a college student, I am always looking for the next best place to order Chinese food from. About two years ago, I discovered this place from an advertisement in my dorm. I really didn’t begin ordering until last year but after I did, I fell in love! The only reason I would order from anywhere else is because Eastern is closed. Every time I order, I order the shrimp rice noodles, general tso shrimp, mixed lemonade and iced tea, and shrimp fried rice. Everything is amazing!

It’s fine for the price. I ended up getting mapo tofu and it was, well, passable.

Can’t stay much about Eastern other than I got a pretty good fish sandwich there. Came stumbling in after midnight on a Friday night and they were still open serving their full menu item. Place is a standard carryout, nothing to look at and nothing special but with all the standards of Americanized Chinese food and also such staples and french fries, chicken wings, various subs. My fish sandwich was cooked nicely of a decent size and met all my needs on this evening. Staff was quick with orders and friendly. I’d give it another go if the mood hit.

Weak Mumbo sauce! I got the chicken wings + fried rice, and you can tell the quality of the mumbo sauce by the thickness, flavor, and color(yes I am a mumbo sauce connoisseur). So it was the watery, clear variety, and didn’t have much flavor. I was excited that this place told me they had mumbo sauce b/c it was close by, but unfortunately, it’s just greasy ass chicken, fried rice, and weak mumbo sauce. Not worth the calories, sodium, and grease!

Given the very poor Chinese food options in DC, this stands out as among the best. It’s not the normal greasy style takeout, and it actually has flavor. the fact that they also deliver and are open late make it even better. definitely not super healthy, and still occasionally unsanitary(found hair in 2 items), but if you ignore those, it’s a decent option.

Went in on a Thursday night at about 6pm. There were 2 of us and maybe 4 – 5 other people in the restaurant. we ordered 2 very basic dishes– a general tso’s tofu and an orange chicken. We then waited upwards of 40 minutes for carryout. Once we got the food– it was terrible. The chicken was extremely overcooked and basically had the texture of leather. My girlfriend said the tofu«was weird,» but did comment on the broccoli that came with it being good, so that’s something.

Nothing particularly wrong with service, and it’s plenty of food for the money. But of the various ostensibly spicy tofu dishes I sampled, I can only say this: they just didn’t taste like much. The kung pao had a modicum of flavor, but the ma po tofu, one of the hardest dishes to screw up, was bland and oddly sweet, with not a hint of spice. The(free, with $ 20 purchase) spring rolls were fine, but I don’t see what some other reviews I read were so high on. I’m quite realistic about these things; the bar for Chinese food in D.C. is not high. I’m comparing this place to the numerous other cheap takeout places nearby, not to any great standard. But it’s got to be at least good enough to justify not eating in.

Pretty good for a cheap Chinese restaurant. I had the sesame chicken which I was very impressed by. Their lunch specials are also pretty good and the staff was friendly, even though it was hectic at lunch time.

For it being late at night(1AM Fri) and choices for delivery limited(according to hotel we were staying), this was pretty good Chinese food. My family and I enjoyed the fried rice that came with our combos. In fact, we all would’ve been happy with just the fried rice. We tried the chicken with broccoli, pepper steak, egg roll, beef on a stick, & egg drop soup with wonton. All of the food was better than we thought it was going to be.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews for a place but I got to be honest. Chinese food in DC in general is lacking so I don’t expect much but sadly I wasn’t even remotely excited about the food from eastern. I got the generals tsos chicken and thought it was bland and a little soggy. The broccoli was okay but the sauce was watery. I also got the wings and mambo sauce and felt it was nothing special. Don’t think I’d be ordering from here again

Ordered online and everything was accurate for my two items: hot and sour soup and tofu moo goo gai pan requested spicy! Food was piping hot and tasted freshly made and delivered right to my office bldg lobby. The soup was flavorful and didn’t have that gelatinous like texture found in others from the cornstarch. It wasn’t spicy at all either but they did include the chili pepper oil so I was able to customize. I ordered a large but would have like to have seen more of the tofu and mushrooms. The entrée was not salty and enough to feed 2 – 3 people. It contained a garlic white sauce although it had traces of a seafood flavor which was a nice surprise. Entrée had tofu, Broc, carrots, shoots, and celery. The menu says«no MSG» and I certainly didn’t taste any. They also offer coupons

The fact this place has an average of 4 stars is proof there is a lack of good Chinese in DC. I order food from Eastern Carryout because it is pretty cheap and delivery is quick. I generally don’t have to wait more than 30 minutes to get my food. Not too bad. As for the food? It’s ok. Not bad, not amazing, just rather ordinary.
