Melanie is a blessing! She removed my tattoo(shamrock tramp stamp with a side of central Pennsylvania flair) from my lower back. I am extremely happy with my results. I cannot even explain to you how much more confident I am now without it. People say it hurts like crazy but Melanie numbs you before the treatment. You feel a bit of heat and some pressure. Afterwards it does tend to be a bit sore, but Melanie said if I got worried to email her right away. She is very prompt with e-mail. Melanie also has been injecting my lips for years and keeping them presentable as well as NATURAL looking. The office staff is great as well. Always so friendly and they make you feel like you’re just visiting to say hey!

I am a 31 year old female, and I went to the center for laser surgery for the first time to inquire about getting Botox(for the first time ever) and potentially some laser facial treatments. I made the mistake of going online and reading the horror stories about Botox administration gone wrong, so when I arrived I was nervous. I was picked up in the waiting room by Melanie, the NP and led into the exam room. Not that this REALLY matters, but Melanie is beautiful in a ‘natural’ looking way. The only reason I mention this is because I was terrified that whomever did my injections would look like a plastic barbie. However Melanie does her work, she does it well! Anyway, she spent the first 20 minutes… literally, 20 full minutes… just talking to me about all my concerns about Botox and laser facials. She is very smart and has been doing this for a long time so you know she is someone who is intelligent and confident in her knowledge. By the time we finished talking, I was ready to move forward with the Botox. I told her that it was very important to me that it look as natural as possible. I didn’t want it overdone at all. She did a few injections in my forehead, and it was over! I barely felt any of the injections. I’m going back on Saturday for my first IPL laser treatment on my full face due to sun damage. I can’t wait to see the results. Bottom line: I highly recommend this place if you’re a first time Botox person or really just need someone to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable with whatever you choose to do. I also highly recommend Melanie!

I was looking for a new Dermatologist and came across Dr. Maren Shaw on ZocDoc. Her office is not the most conveniently located for me, so I originally planned on seeing her for just one urgent visit, and then finding another doctor closer to me. But I was SO pleased with my first visit that I will be staying with Dr. Shaw despite the transit inconvenience. She is warm and friendly and really gets to know her patients. She gave thorough, detailed answers to all of my million and one questions, something most doctor’s don’t do. But perhaps what was most pleasantly surprising was the fact she herself promptly returns patients’ calls(instead of a nurse or assistant) to answer any questions directly, which is something I’ve not yet experienced with a Specialist. She knew I was eager to start my Accutane treatment after submitting my lab work(on a Friday), and I got a call from her first thing the next Monday morning– the most attentive and personalized care a patient could ask for.

The staff is absolutely wonderful from everyone that I have encountered the past year. Great experience with tattoo and hair removal. I’ve had friends pay more in the end elsewhere with more unneeded sessions because they were not seeing results. They are a bit pricey for me and given the area, but I have seen great outcomes with only a few of each session making it so worth it! Incredible technology. I plan on doing more as my budget allows. I love how they’re honest enough to tell me that I don’t need something or more treatments versus just taking the money. Rooms can be just a little too chilly, but that’s all medical offices. Bring a blanket or something warm for longer sessions.

I’ve been to many dermatologists over the past 40 years, but none as wonderful as Dr. Maren Shaw. I went in to have her«look at» a bump on my nose that had been getter larger over the years. Dr. Shaw removed it, put some healing aid on it(sorry, don’t know the technical term) and I was on my way. When I got to my car(I had some friends who were waiting for me as I had to take them to the airport), they couldn’t even see the mark where the bump was… no pain, no scaring, absolutely amazing. Additionally, Dr. Shaw has treated eczema(after many unsuccessful attempts by other dermatologists) on my hands and my daughters legs — we finally have it under control thanks to her diagnosis.

Botox? Perhaps a good place. Looking for a diagnosis for your skin issue? Keep looking. Short version: Dr. Shaw(incorrectly) diagnosed our 5-yr old daughter with hand, foot and mouth disease. It took 11 days for both tests to come back(first came back on day 8). Both were negative, meaning«nothing has grown», as Dr. Shaw put it. Her diagnosis was actually incorrect. What I cannot forget, or forgive, is that 1. it took 11 days to get a simple lab test results(this is a 5-yr old child whose butt and crotch were full of open wounds and blisters), and 2. her lab results were incorrect, just like her diagnosis. Incorrect diagnosis AND lab results that showed nothing. Correct diagnosis was done by the pediatrician, who immediately expressed suspicion about Dr. Shaw’s diagnosis, and said she believed it was staph infection, and had a confirmation from the lab in less than 48 hrs. Staph infection can be very serious. It can actually be deadly. Long version: First oddity, beside the«no appointment necessary for botox injections» signs, was a receptionist who took us to an exam room, then asked what the problem was while we were still in the hallway, and once we entered the exam room wanted to see the child’s affected area without even closing the door behind her. A receptionist. Second oddity was a very friendly but overly chatty nurse who offered her opinion of what she thought Dr. Shaw would diagnose, and what the treatment would entail. A nurse. What would a nurse give a diagnosis is beyond me. She spent 30 min with us, chatting, before Dr. Shaw arrived. Her personality is great. Her expertise is another story. It is obvious that she specializes in botox injections, and she’s probably good at it, but actual dermatology, that’s something else. She diagnosed my daughter with hand, foot and mouth disease, even though there were no signs of that disease in those 3 areas. Possible, but not probable. She took a sample of the blister discharge to send to a lab. 8 days later, EIGHT, she called and left a message with results of one test and said it was negative, and advised that we continue using the cream the pediatrician had given us before we even went to Dr. Shaw. At that point we already knew the correct diagnosis — staph infection — but decided to keep it ourselves until she gave us the result of the the other test. She called on day 11 with those results, saying it was negative, too, meaning all is good. According to her, HER diagnosis of HFM disease was correct. Luckily for our daughter, my wife didn’t buy Dr. Shaw’s diagnosis, so between the visit to Dr. Shaw and her bad test results 11 days later, we saw a pediatrician, who in less than 48 hrs had a results from the lab: staph infection. It is one thing to have an incorrect diagnosis, but two results from a lab that came back that didn’t diagnose staph, well, there are a thousand questions here, first of which is, why did it take 11 days for results? What kind of clinic takes 11 days to do a simple test?! And second, how come that lab results didn’t show anything? When my wife asked her that over the phone she said she hadn’t done the whole ‘bacterial culture’ test. But how do you then make a correct diagnosis? When my wife started asking questions, Dr. Shaw became quiet and not really sure what to say. So, no, I will not be going back, even for botox injections should I decide in need one. And I will rather take my kids to a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine than I’ll take them to Dr. Shaw’s clinic.

My experiences have all been positive. Price is definitely in the upper-average range for procedures. Staff has been friendly, moreso in 2013. I’m not sure if there’s new management, but they’ve definitely made some nice overtures in reaching out to clients. In five treatments, I’ve not waited more than five minutes beyond my appointment time. The removal process has been(relatively) pain-free and quick. I would certainly recommend this facility to friends looking to have the same work as I done.

I was looking online for reviews of laser tattoo removal but didn’t really find many so I’m taking the time to write this for anyone who is in search. I called this place and received a quote from Christine. I mentioned there was an «introductory special» for $ 200 off any one treatment and she said that was already included in my quote. Make sure you get a quote FIRST and then mention the $ 200 off, that way you can be sure it really factors into the price. For two tattoos on either side of my neck that consisted of just black ink lettering, the price was $ 225. That must of meant that normally it would have been $ 425 for the initial treatment. They gave me a «deal» since I told them I wanted both of them done at the same time. I called back the next day with more questions regarding the quote and another lady answered who didn’t seem to know too much and said she would have Christine call me back… which she never did. I later decided that there were not many options near my home so I decided to go in. I wanted to be sure to take care of the areas after the treatment so I asked Amanda who was doing the procedure what I needed to know. I figured with a procedure that included lasers on your skin they’d have a sheet or something to take with me just to help me while I was at home but they didn’t. I guess I thought since it was a form of surgery, they would have after care procedures like they hand you when you have surgery on your thumb or whatever. She said after the procedure there would be scabbing and the skin would be slightly raised so I needed to put ointment and bandages on it for the next 3 to 5 days… and that was it. I mentioned there was something I read on the internet about R20 and if she knew anything about it. She explained to me what she thought of it and then offered to do it. I told her no because it seemed like some new procedure and I wasn’t too sure about it for my first time, so I passed. Once we began, immediately It did not feel like getting the tattoo at all, in fact it hurts more but then again I only had ice on it. I was glad she had brought ice since I turned down the numbing cream. After she was done on one side, she showed me how it looked and it just looked like I had red bumps around the letters. She pointed out the area she first started on and then the area she had just finished, stating that at the beginning it turns white but then it starts to fade back to the color of the ink. Then she mentioned the R20 procedure and offered to go over a small area to show me there was no real difference in going over it twice. I told her no but she continued insisting and finally mentioned«it was for science» in a joking way so I figured I could take the pain again and let her. I left not feeling too assured I had received my money’s worth but I figured since it was fresh, the next couple of days there would be scabbing and it would appear as if there was work done on it. Well on the third day, the tattoo looked the same as on the first day and there was no scabbing what so ever and on some areas it wasn’t even red or raised at all. It almost seemed as if she had skipped some areas. The areas literally looked like someone had scratched me or as if I had been attacked by mosquitoes. I didn’t even have the tattoo professionally done so the ink was mostly at the surface. I called and asked her about my results and she said, «well there really won’t be any scabbing per say.» It seemed as though she didn’t do much the first time just to stretch out the treatments longer. I’m no expert in tattoo removal but I just didn’t feel comfortable with my experience there. I cancelled my next treatment and decided to go somewhere else. Make sure you are 100 percent satisfied with the location and the price.

This place is great! I came here upon recommendation from a coworker and I am pleased with my results after just one appointment. Kathy was great– she thoroughly explained the process, informed me of what to expect and was completely honest about the potential outcomes. I will be returning to finish my remaining laser hair removal sessions and I couldn’t be happier!

I am so glad to have found Amanda. I had mixed results with my first Botox injections(which were administered elsewhere) but wasn’t ready to give up on it as a method of treatment for the deep lines in my forehead. I came the the Center for Laser Surgery hopeful that I could soften those lines without having to sacrifice the ability to make natural looking facial expressions(which was the problem the first time around) and Amanda not only met, but totally exceeded that goal. I look relaxed and refreshed and didn’t have a bit of bruising. In fact, I headed to Chef Geoff’s(which is right next door) for dinner following my treatment. I am a few months out from my appointment now and am pleasantly surprised by how long the results have lasted. In addition to being beyond pleased with my results, the cost was reasonable, the office is in a convenient location, and Amanda could not have been any nicer/informative. I will definitely be back.

Wonderful Jessica is no longer practicing at the Center for Laser Surgery. I would love to locate her. Recently i made an appointment with her replacement. My experience should deter anyone booking an appointment with this practice. One day after having both botox and Juvederm injections, the result of the treatment was four dime sized black and blue marks on either side of my nose(in the labial area) and smaller ones under my eyes. Three days later I still have two large black and blue marks. this has never happened in all the years Jessica treated me. I called Mrs Adrian twice. she did not return my calls. I did the only sensible thing I could do: Take pictures, and have my $ 1600 fee put into dispute by my credit card company. Please regard this review as a warning and a suggestion as to how to handle such a situation.

Used the center for Laser hair removal. RN performs the procedure and is very honest about who is a good candidate. They provide you with anesthetic cream prior to the procedure which is key. Results were very good after 6 treatments(underarm) Price is within the same range as other centers I contacted. Indoor parking lot about $ 5. Open on Saturdays which is helpful, but RN we used only worked one Saturday/month. Run relatively on time.

Took my teenage daughter for a consult on laser hair removal on her neck. Consult was quick and we were both left with the impression that we would be in good hands with the RN and that my daughter was a good candidate given the type of hair and location. Sure enough it was painless and successful and she feels great about the result. Definately plan to follow up with additional treatments as necessary. Price very reasonable.

I had not been back for the last two years — while God did not grant me the cheekbones I’d hoped for, filler is f-ing expensive! Also, I had endured a really rough eye surgery during that time frame and frankly was not loving the idea of anyone coming near my face or eyes with anything sharp. However, the reality that I was starting to show a few signs of aging that my trusty retin-a and sunscreen combo couldn’t fix led me to come see Jessica for a pick me up. Did I get filler? No. Why? Because she saw my puffy, jacked up eye that a previous surgeon had screwed up. I’d gone to FOUR oculoplastic surgeons trying to find out both why my eye looked like someone snuck a kidney bean under my eyeball and all of them gave me absurd explanations and ran away, not wanting to fix it or help. All of this happened right before my wedding, so let’s just say thank God for photoshop. I’d given up and accepted my deformed eye but Jessica was like, «honey, I know what that is and for 100 bucks, I’ll fix it. Please, just let me fix it.» But but… you’re an RN, and they were oculoplastic surgeons! Board certified and what not! How could you possibly fix this? She came at me with a needle, I prayed to Baby Jesus and then an hour later, my eye deflated. She fixed it. I look normal again. For 100 bucks. Would I marry Jessica if I could? Yes. Yes I would. Reasonable price, creative eye, genius. Amazing.

After my bad experience with Dr. Sean Gunning, I tried this place. They market well. I paid 875 for glabella(frown lines between eyebrows), forehead, and crow’s feet. A nurse administered the Botox, but I figured she couldn’t do worse than Dr. Gunning. Only the forehead was affected. There was no effect on the glabella, which I told them was the real reason I was there. When I called them and told them that there was no effect, they said that they would do it over if I paid them the full price for the treatment again – $ 325 for the glabella alone.

Like the reviewer below, I too called to make an appointment with Dr. Adrian(a consult about possible laser surgery), because I didn’t know he had passed away. The receptionist reassured me that the nurse practitioners were all hand trained by Dr. Adrian, but I still wanted to be seen by an actual doctor and be treated by one too. I don’t care if they were trained by Jesus, laser surgery is still risky(2nd and 3rd degree burns!) and I wanted to ensure my safety. Anyway, if I recall correctly, they don’t take any form of insurance, and at the time, the quote for the consultation was $ 150, which would be credited if you were to actually get the laser treatment. Despite the enticing offer, I ended up canceling my appointment. Plus, the location doesn’t seem to be metro accessible. I made an appointment with the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery instead(K St, near the McPherson Sq stop). The doctors are the ones handling the lasers, not NPs. They don’t accept insurance either, and their first consultation fee is $ 350.
