I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove PRIDE~~~~!!! DC Gay Pride is great. It is enriched in culture and open minded people who all share one common interest — having a good time. People come together to celebrate equality and life and openness where they can express themselves without judgment. I loved the rainbow colors and all the festivities. Everyone seemed to be having a good time at the parade without restriction. Particularly my favorite part of the parade was seeing all the drag queens and the different floats that wanted to raise awareness about the LBGTQ community. There were a lot of those. Those organizations handed out flyers, brochures, and pamphlets to the crowds to keep them informed. I think it was amusing seeing Westboro Baptist Church picket the parade, but honestly no one was giving them too much attention to take away from the main event. Check out my photos for a better glimpse of the parade 2014.

After attending for my third year this year, my official opinion is that the DC pride parade is my favorite DC holiday! My friends and I typically brunch in the morning beforehand then head up to DuPont about a half hour prior to the parade starting. We never have a problem finding a good place to stand to view the spectacle. I love how rowdy the parade can be. The bead throwing and glitter are reminiscent of a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade. The men and women representing every corner of the DC area show what a proud and diverse community we can be. Whether it be frisbees, condoms or candy — giveaways abound in this parade. Be sure to temper your energy because this parade is often 3 – 4 hours long! Afterward be sure to make your way to 17th street or DuPont Circle fountain to witness the post-parade festivities!

I love this event! It’s not just gay/lesbian walking in the parade. All DC politicians, city government sectors, school bands, NGOs and of course gay/lesbian supporting business are participating the parade. It is long parade. but you will not be bored for hours. If you are in town at the time of the parade, I highly suggest you go out and have fun with crowds. PS: you can collect some beads, candies and other goodies during the parade :)
