They say first impressions are everything, and man, did this place hit a home run for brunch/lunch on a Sunday. Best Breakfast Burrito I ever had. Very accommodating staff, a wonderful selection of fair priced and organic local food, a solid selection of beers and mixed drinks, great décor that feels very homey. Not much more to say then this place is a gift to the Warwick Area and that if this is a must stop for anyone visiting. Highly recommended and will be returning for dinner for sure.

Went there for breakfast /brunch. Very friendly waitstaff. Had the eggs benedict. With tomato and spinach. Nice combination. However rhe egg was overcooked and not runny as it should be. A little disappointed. My son had the breakfast taco which he said was very good.

I’ve been wanting to try The Shanty for a bit of time now so why all of a sudden did I finally make it there you might ask? Two words… Pregnancy Craving. The TV Dinner was the root of my craving so off we went. First off, they took a reservation when I called which was nice. It wasn’t too busy on a Sunday around 5:30. The service was good but we he a couple of different servers and they also bartended as well. We got the soy wings appetizer, they had this soy glaze on the reminiscent of a balsamic glaze, sweet with some heat… over crispy fried chicken… very tasty! I got the TV dinner which consisted of juicy yet crispy fried Cornish hen which truly was the star of the dish. The smoked Mac and cheese was topped with some panko crumbs and absolutely tasted like bacon. My third favorite component was the homemade vanilla lemon whoopie pie, it was like two sugar cookies with a light lemony buttery cream in between them — perfect ending! The other two sides were the coleslaw and collard greens — I’m not a huge fan of coleslaw but this was in fact one I did like and was able to eat, the collard greens had a bit too much of a heavy bacon fat taste to them for my liking. All in all, tasty and based on the burger I saw coming out of the kitchen I know what I will be back for next time!

We had a fantastic meal here. The staff is extremely welcoming and they were able to accommodate us on a busy night. The beer selection is great, my husband really enjoyed the special draft they had that night. We had the nachos to start which were very good. My husband’s burger looked amazing and I had the lobster roll which was delicious. Beautiful big pieces of lobster with very light mayo. Highly recommend and we look forward to adding this to our normal rotation!

Overall my experience at The Shanty was very good. The outside of the place is nondescript and one could easily zip by without noticing it. The inside décor defies this initial impression. The place is dominated by a large rectangular bar with booths and table around the perimeter and small dining area at the front end of the space. The atmosphere is part upscale bar and nicely appointed restaurant… Now the food: very good chow at The Shanty! Appetizer: Muscles and clams in a tomato based broth-yum! Broth warranted extra bread for dunking. Main course– Big Ol Burger… yum! Special sauce was tasty the burger was cook to a perfect medium temp. Service: was very good despite being understaffed… host called out sick apparently, but the 3 women working made up for it in enthusiasm and efforts! I plan to bring back friends and family. Salud!

I have now been here several times and this place is consistently good. They offer new options as well as some favorites that are always on the menu. The brussel sprout salad is always a winner. Additionally, drinks are great! Especially if you love trying new things and speciality cocktails. Service is always friendly, but it is a small place and can get crowded quickly.

The Shanty is a hidden gem on the Warwick/EG border, we stumbled upon it accidentally last year and now its a regular spot for us. The service is always great, I think there are ¾ regular waitresses and bartenders, all are super knowledgeable about the menu and very nice. The restaurant itself is small, may 15 tables and a large bar. It gets really busy friday/saturday night so a reservation is necessary if you don’t want to wait an hour! We recently discovered its a great spot for a late drink and snack, the kitchen is open until 10 and good beer on tap. The drink prices are good to, 4 – 6 bucks for a beer. The crispy brussels are so good, even people who don’t like brussel sprouts would eat them. The TV dinner is great as are the burgers and fries. I think the soy ginger wings are the best thing on the menu, super crispy and covered in the most amazing sauce.

Totally lucked out with finding this place. We were looking for lunch on the way back to Newport after making a trip to the mall in Warwick, and Unilocal magically suggested The Shanty. The restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside there’s a central bar with an Edison bulb«chandelier,» and plenty of booths and tables. We ordered the yam fries for an appetizer, my husband got the Big Ol’ Burger, and I had the porchetta sandwich. The burger practically melts in your mouth and the taste of the porchetta was out of this world. The yam fries were enormous and delicious. We ordered them because the menu didn’t indicate that our sandwiches came with fries, but it turns out that they both came with a pile of hand-cut fries. Everything was delicious. Our server was great. Now that we’ve been here for brunch, we definitely will return for dinner. Even though we live in Newport with plenty of great dining options, we absolutely will make the drive up to Warwick to come back!

I have been dying to try the Shanty since I first read a review in Rhode Island magazine. The TV dinner is fascinating but I am gluten free so that’s out. No worries! They have plenty of dishes that fit my needs! My friend, Tina and I split the special… ground beef tacos. Very tasty! The rice is bland but we didn’t really need it to fill up. We also split the Korean bbq lettuce tacos. Amazing! So fresh, perfectly spiced. 100% worth it! We chose to sit at the bar because we did not make reservations and we would’ve waited 40 minutes. The bar was perfect! We plan on trying every(gluten free) item on the menu! They even offered a gf tart! Please try this small, artsy, wonderfully yummy restaurant!

Been here a few times now. Ordered the TV dinner, pork nachos, bacon wrapped dates, soup, pasta, and 2 desserts. So it’s safe to say we’ve had a good sample of what they have to offer. We enjoy the food and will continue to visit. Oddly, the bread and butter is one of my favorite things, simple but really good.

We really enjoyed eating at The Shanty last night! The restaurant is cozy with a cool vibe, and I like how the menu isn’t overwhelming but has enough options to make it difficult to select something(as they all sound good). Our server was attentive and it was nice to have a relaxing dinner away from our new lil’ baby(we missed him though). The kale salad was awesome, my burger was topnotch(it’s so nice to eat a burger with a soft bun), and the orange torte tasted like a yellow Hostess cupcake(meaning, it was excellent). There were just a couple of things kept the meal from being a five star event: 1. I really wanted the brussel sprout and pork belly salad as a(smaller) side salad, but they don’t offer ANY of their salads as side salads. My wife didn’t want a salad and the waitress said that the brussel sprout salad was on the heavy side, so I reluctantly ordered the kale salad. It’d be nice if you could order even one of their salads as a side salad instead of deciding to either forgo a salad or pay $ 10 for a salad that is too big for one. 2. My wife ordered the Mussels & Clams as her entrée and we were a bit put off by how BIG the mussels were. I mean, they were BIG. Whenever we order a dish with mussels you can be sure that it will be completely eaten, but we left three mussels untouched as the meat was so big they had a fishy/sea taste to them. Why are they so big? 3. This one has NO effect on my rating, but the burger was A+ with fresh pickle slices on the burger, yet they still serve a pickle spear straight out of a jar. Serving a limp pickle spear that you get at a restaurant like Gregg’s is a little odd given how freshly made the burger is. We’re looking forward to our next visit and it’s definitely worth your while to go. However, stay away from the mussels if you’ve never eaten mutant mussels before!

Very attentive staff and quick service despite the large crowd during brunch. Food was delicious. Our party tried the wings, eggs Benedict with crab, breakfast burrito, lobster roll, porchetta and beetmosas. Standouts were the lobster roll and porchetta. Bread was amazing on those sandwiches as were the accompanying fries-perfect. The beetmosas were good(if you like beets), but were made even better by the addition of apple juice. Overall a great experience!

Went here today for lunch(well technically brunch) with my daughter. The restaurant itself is very nice. Clean, great décor & a fun, yet relaxed vibe. The waitstaff was great. Attentive enough without the feeling of being being over bothered. My daughter got the apple pie French toast. It was a pretty big portion and really good! I ordered the breakfast burrito. Taste wise it was delicious. One thing I was worried about was the sour cream because a lot of places put way too much on. This dish had the perfect amount. So why the 3 star review(honestly it would be 3.5 if I could choose)? My dish, at best, was luke warm. The potatoes that were with them were cold. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t have the time to wait for a new dish nor did I want a reheated/microwaved dish and I was hungry. We had a good experience overall and like I said, the food was tasty, but the cool temperature was off putting. I may give it another chance(for dinner), I’m unsure though. ****EDIT: Need to drop the review. First this is my mistake for not checking at the restaurant but now that I’ve had a chance to view my receipts, I paid for the wrong meal. As noted in my review I had the burrito and my daughter the French toast. I also had coffee and my daughter only had water. «My» check is for 2 coffees, French toast, egg sandwhich and crab eggs Benedict(which is impossible due to an allergy). Probably won’t return now & lesson learned. ***review re-updated due to restaurant contacting me. Thank you. Much appreciated.

It’s been less than a year since my last five star review of The Shanty, but every time I go there I never cease to be amazed with their cuisine, their staff, and their wonderful and friendly owner, Kara. I only wish they were open at lunchtime because I’d be dining there even more often! See my last review for basics re The Shanty, because this one is just to say how absolutely wowed hubby and I were with our most recent dinner. You must try their brand spanking new winter menu, containing many new drinks(I tried the Bar Maid and it was luscious!), new apps(pulled pork nachos were excellent), new salad: Roasted Brussel Sprouts salad with crispy chunks of pork belly, goat cheese and of course the delicious crunchy Brussel sprouts — to die for good(and HUGE)! Cioppino(delicious!) and the coupe de grace: Cold Fusion Creamery Cinnamon Ice Cream sandwich served between two magnificently, deliciously awesome Snickerdoodle cookies for dessert. We should have taken pix but we couldn’t stop eating long enough to do so! You really need to try the Shanty if you have not — and if you have, go back! The new winter menu is awesome!

A nice spot with tasty food, friendly service, and the farm-to-table mission. Prices are reasonable. I’ve had the lobster roll with fries(made just the way that I like it with a light dressing, celery and lots of lobster chunks), and the Monday night special burger. Burger Night is Monday and there are new options each week, along with $ 5 beer. The restaurant has a cozy, neighborhood guide and isn’t so large that you get lost in the space. It would be easy to become a regular visitor when in the area.

After seeing a show at Ocean State Theater, we were looking for a good local restaurant, a change from our usual Providence favorites. This place really hit the mark. The Shanty is located in a charming building that looks like a house, right down the road from Chelo’s on the Waterfront. Inside, it’s a cozy pub-like environment with a fireplace, friendly bar, and a menu that features ingredients from local farms. They also have a very nice beer, wine, and cocktail list. This is the kind of place you could meet a friend for a beer and football game, have a cozy date night by the fire, or enjoy a family night out. We enjoyed the yam fries in a spicy aioli, duck pot pie, chicken with pumpkin risotto, smoky cheddar mac and cheese, and Brussels sprout and bacon salad. It was all great and we had lots of leftovers to bring home and no room to try the great selection of desserts that their pastry chef offers. Well, now we have an excuse to go back!

Eclectic Spin Had dinner at The Shanty recently on a busy Friday night. First time at this establishment. The meal started with the brussels sprout salad which was excellent, served with delicious fried pork belly. I had the TV dinner which was served in a retro TV dinner tray and my wife had the steak. Everything on the TV dinner plate from the Mac and cheese to the fried Cornish hen was delectable. My wife’s steak was very tender but it’s served on this strange umami salad, it really should be served with a simple starch and veg. Overall, this was a very good meal. The only complaint would be is that the alcohol prices are a bit high and the older gentleman behind the bar needs to a little more friendly. Besides that we were pretty happy with the whole experience. Thanks

Last weekend, I made a trip back to The Shanty and have to say I was so disappointed. I want to give them another try, but I really don’t want to have a repeat of my last experience. I ventured in on a Friday night, just a party of one. I was offered a seat at the bar, which was fine by me. I ordered a cocktail that sounded tasty, and based upon my past experience, I expected it to be delicious. This was the first disappointment. It was so strong I couldn’t drink it. I never want to be that jerk that asks them to remake it so I drank what I could and left the rest untouched. The next problem that was very apparent was the fact it was DEAFENINGLY loud. I had to repeat my order a number of times so the server could hear me. I was very, very grateful that I came alone. Had I brought a friend, we would have went hoarse trying to have a conversation within 1 foot of one another. People were literally screaming over one another. I don’t know if this is due to the buildings construction, but it sounded more like a packed, rowdy bar than a place to grab some food. I ordered a side(brussel sprouts) and a small plate of salmon since I was looking forward to their desserts. To my surprise, my small plate was not at all what I expected. Instead of salmon, it was a dish with lox. Yes, I realize they both come from the same fish, but one is served hot and one is served cold(as well as dried and salty). The dish was okay; however, it was really not what I thought I was ordering and think the menu should make it clearer. Despite the disappointment and the overly salty brussel sprouts, I decided to see if their desserts were as delicious as ever. After all, this was my main reason for coming in. Turns out they rotate their menu and none of what I had previously loved was on the menu any longer. I would have been up for trying something new… but 2 of the three desserts had nuts in them(which I along with a ton of other people are allergic to) and the third was chocolate, which I do not like. I understand these things happen, but the waitress was super rude about it when she came to check what I wanted. I’m not sure if she had been drinking or was just snotty. All in all, I am super sad that The Shanty did not turn out to be the place I thought it was.
