Dan’s Irish Sports Bar

Went for a friends birthday party. Private for the early hours. Before the public hours. Andrew and Derek where there. They are GREAT. Very friendly and social. Great drinks. Then Emma came in. She was also GREAT. If I could I would give them more then 5 stars for service and great personality. They had a live band 80’s music that night (Saturday). They have two pool tables. Tv’s to watch the games. Street parking so it’s hit or miss I guess. We found parking around the corner. Nothing so fancy but if your in the area and want good drinks and bartenders who have great personalities then hit this place up. If my husband and I are ever up that way again we will :-). Thanks again Andrew, Derek and Emma.

Not my kind of place. Low scale and not the best looking. Good location though. I walked in but didn’t stay.

I lilke Dan Bar and have been coming here since the 90’s, but!
The carpets, booth furniture and bar counter are the same since the late 90’s when they did the last interior upgrade. Even the outdoor awnings are ripped and faded. The carpet issue is causing an odor. Now the prices for drinks are good at Dans, I don’t think they over charge, but I’d like to think they would have made enough money the last 18 years with the cover charges on the weekends to replace a few things. It’s looking and smelling kind of haggard!!!
Positives: The nice employee’s that make great drinks. Nice security staff. The low prices. The rockn bands. Fun atmosphere. The outdoor patio they put in with the last upgrade is great, but with a little more money this place could be much more comfortable. The pool tables. Fire place-​put in at the last major upgrade in the late 90’s.
I was at Mr. Luckys and it was clean with a carpet that has been replaced after Obama became president. The booths and chairs were new and not tattered.
Please give the place a little face lift and clean her up a bit.

The bar tender was so upset and so rude, have no idea what her issue was, maybe uncomfortable around a group of young women? Even the bouncer apologized, definitely will not return to such an awful environment.

Best place with the best staff. Thank you dans. Over all the year you have provided the best drinks and service. A staple in Walnut Creek. I hope for years to come.

I walked in and the bartender (Derrick) walked up to me immediately. I had a drink in less than 2 minutes and he was very polite. I’ve been coming here the past few years and they’ve always been great to me! Thumbs up up!

Had a few experiences here and each one has been mediocre at best. The staff is extremely unfriendly and the bar tenders act like they don’t want to be there. Kind of puts a downer on the night when everyone is in a bad mood. There are also a lot of young kids drinking way too much and puking and pissing all over the place. Last time I was there, a totally wasted idiot was taking a leak in the corner…5 feet from the men’s room. Probably not going back to this bar any time soon.

Cougar bar alert!
Some how I was talked into coming to Dan’s this past weekend. It was a very interesting night to say the least. I was told that the cover is $ 5,not a big deal. We get there and the bouncer tells us that the cover was $ 10 that night because the Spazmatic’s were playing. Everyone in my group looked at each other with a «who the f**k are the Spazmatics?» look on our face and decide to just pay the cover and check it out.
The place was PACKED! We went towards the pool tables and the people playing pool barely had enough room to play their game. I wanted to leave, but decided to stick around for the coverband. It was impossible to get a drink, so by the time the bartender got around to us we decided to order doubles. The men in our group appreciated the doubles since they had to deal with older women harassing them the entire night, which I found hilarious.
I wasn’t expecting a clean bathroom, but wow… Easily the dirtiest bar bathroom I’ve been in, in a long time. Don’t get my started on the smell in the women’s bathroom…
I will say that we really enjoyed the band and that they put on a great show! Would I see the band again, hell yes. Would I come back to Dan’s? Probably not… I like dive bars, but this place is more like a dove bar. If you’re into watching middle aged women get sloppy and bump into you and spill their drinks on you, then you’re going to love Dan’s.

Been here many times in the past 10+ years, and stopped in last night to watch the spazmatics.
Got there at 930, band hasn’t started yet, and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a drink. As a business owner, completely sober at the time, all I could do is shake my head as I watch the slow bartenders pour one drink at a time. I immediately think of bar rescue and their stress tests and me being one of the patrons standing for over 20 minutes and not be acknowledged by any of the 3 bartenders.
Yes 3 on a Saturday night with a local favorite band playing. I would have staffed at least 5 and kept the cash register flowing.
The sound system hasn’t changed, in fact nothing has changed. We’re in downtown Walnut Creek, this place is a gold mine, put some $ back into your business and buy some new speakers. The band was great but because of the crappy sound system, they sounded like crap.
I pulled out the maximum $ 120 from their ATM and was only able to buy 1 drink.
Nice job Dan, we left spending the $ 120 having drinks at your neighbors.
Bottomline, I think it’s time to call John Taffer.

First, Andrew the bar tender had a unpleasant review before that is not deserved. He is funny and enjoyable as a bar tender. Possibly, the only good thing about this bar.
The music sucks! It’s dead unless you pay $ 1.75 for a single song. That is not Okay with me. It’s cheaper to play pool on the old tables.
If I am buying drinks, I at least want music. I would make a party bar at my house with free music and no one at it for a lot less.
This place could be so much better if the owner would pull some change out of his fat lined pockets and reinvest.
Walnut creek deserves better.

So I came here to celebrate my anniversary, but that didn’t happen.
Three years ago to the day, my boyfriend and I had our first date here. We decided to come back to celebrate our anniversary with friends.
I recently lost my wallet with 500 dollars and my ID. I had three forms of LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE identification instead, none of which the bartender Andrew decided to accept.
He ignored us for a few minutes, despite the bar being basically empty.
He was rude to me and my boyfriend on top of it, speaking down to us like we were somehow not even people.
I’ve been coming to this bar for almost four years. I’ve never been treated so rudely at a bar in NorCal.
I don’t even know how this kid has a job. If I talked to a customer the way he spoke to me, I would be fired. Andrew does not deserve to be employed anywhere because he is obviously incapable of communicating like an adult or having any modicum of human decency. He needs therapy on how to effectively socialize with other humans and should not be allowed in civilized society until that rehabilitation is complete. If I see him at Dan’s again, I will make a point of directly confronting the owner about it because the way he spoke to us was not in any way acceptable.

Dans is a wonderful place to grab a few drinks and meet some new faces, but what makes this place extremely welcoming is the staff. Tonight, my buddy and I went to watch a football game. Andrew was the bartender, and he was an incredible host to us. Some of the bad reviews listed below (especially the one about «3 forms of government ID that was being rejected») are completely inaccurate portraits of this place. I was there and witnessed that customer being extremely outrageous, disrespectful, and questionably unlawful, and Andrew handled the situation with incredible poise.
Pay dans a visit, you won’t regret it.

Will never go here again. My group (business dinner) and I went here after dinner for a nightcap. Things started fine, but soon got out of hand. Why? The bouncers. They take way, way too many liberties. They believe they have impunity for any and all of their actions. If you are a guy who takes offense to a bouncer coming up to you and your lady, getting in your face for absolutely no reason and grabbing you before you can talk — I’d strongly avoid this place.

We were drawn in by the cover band… that was a mistake.
I went in with a group of four. One of our group members said «I’ve only been here when I’m really drunk.»
There’s a $ 5 to go back to 1999 on a Friday night. There were a ton of groups here kind of moshing/​wiggling/​tryna-​make something happen.
We were able to get to the bar easily enough and order drinks quickly. I was handed a whiskey sour that tasted disgusting. I don’t know how, or why. Only that it was 100% undrinkable.
The music is what caught our attention, the band played songs that everyone was able to sing along to. However the sound system was horrible. There was a ton of feedback and mics. I don’t know if it was due to the quality of the audio system or a user error.
It’s a great place to hang out when you’re on the verge of blacking out!

The bartenders were great and attentive but the security staff yelled at me for being crippled. The guy at the door told me he was going to beat my ass if I didn’t leave the bar faster. This is one walnut creek establishment I’ll make sure veterans don’t visit.

My favorite place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Controlling the jukebox and drinking my cider.
Don’t come here expecting some hip bar you would find in the city. But prepare to expect genuine bartenders, people who will want to shoot the s with you, and just a complete non pretentious vibe.

Great dive bar. Good beer selection. Horrible… horrible smell.
There’s no food. So that’s disappointing but you can bring it whatever you’d like.
The bartenders are awesome. So helpful, funny, attentive.
My favorite part was that while I was there the bearded man next to me kissed me. Maybe that’s included in the price of the beer?
Four stars for the bar. Five stars for the lumbersexual pucker and two stars for the smell.

Nice fun bar !! They have two pool tables !! Nice dance floor and also live music once a week !! Great patio area too to relax and cool off if needed! Great crowd of people !
This is a pretty chill relax spot in walnut creek if you want to go out with your friends and grab a beer or drink and relax. It nice that they have the pool table there too so you can get a game of pool on!
This place can get very busy and crazy ! they have lots of space and nice backyard if you want to get fresh air or just chill with friends, there are tables and seats

I often come here on the weekends or after work for a quick drink and it’s pretty much my go-​to place for drinking in downtown Walnut Creek as it’s one of the three places I know of where you can smoke on the patio with a drink.
The outside seats could use some TLC which could give the spot a 4, but I typically hang around the standing tables outside and the staff is so friendly and awesome that I’m bumping them to a 5.

Oh Dans. I love you. I hate you. I hate to love you.
It’s walnut creek people. You don’t have many choices with pool tables and a more mellow, yet divey vibe. Jukebox, live music, fireplace. If you jive with that, Dans is your place.
Just beware because shit can get weird. You have been warned.
