Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

I would first like to say, this review does not reflect on the employees! They were nice! We use to come here two to three times a week until the owner basically fired all the nice people, or moved them! So because we loved this place so much, my wife wanted to try it again! What a mistake! This place is dirty, and freaking hot, and flies everywhere! How nasty! Hope I don’t get sick! I won’t be surprised if this place shuts down if they don’t change things!
P. s. There is no one but us in here! I guess we are the dumb ones!
Well if you go here, good luck. Maybe drive a little farther and go to the one on main! Different owners!

The customer service was awesome. I asked for a cup of warm water to defrost some milk for my baby. The employee took the milk from me and went over to the stove to double boil it for me. Even brought it to my table when it was warm

I love the pulled pork sandwich my fav thing is the potatoe casserole so good service is always good too

Wanted dickeys really bad so we decided to stop here. We went to the restroom first and saw it was so dirty. The bathroom toilet was gross and there was a dirty diaper inside the stall. Floors and the sink were dirty, towels on the floor. Worst of all no self serve ice cream! Decided to not even eat here and drive the extra 5 miles to the one on Main Street.

The customer service here was spectacular!!! The portion size was great the food was perfect temperature and everything tasted EXCELLENT!!! Steven and Jaime took care of us like we were family!!! Thank you we WILL be back!

I have dined here and concur with other reviewers regarding the customer service or lack thereof. I have NEVER been treated in a friendly manner when walking up to the counter. The atmosphere is just unpleasant which is unfortunate because I like the food. The size of the portions vary depending on who is working, but it should be consistent. It is a bit pricey which I would not mind if the customer service was better. There is a funny manager that had to complete a transaction once because he too noticed the discourteous behavior of one of the staff members-​hence the two stars instead of one. I have decided not to return and sadly, I do not recommend it.

I posted a review when this place first opened hoping to change it later. Now I’ve just had it. This place has such poor customer service that I will not return. They are short staffed and the few staff they do have are rude and do not pay attention. They also short you on food when you are paying top dollar. I ordered the 3 meat plate which I have had many times. They barely put any meat on my plate. When the manager walked by I let him know I felt I had been shorted and his response was, «actually, we gave you extra». I’ve never had a manager be so rude. I do not recommend eating at this location.
There is another Dickey’s in downtown Visalia which has different owners and they have MUCH better service. The owner comes by to greet you when he is in and even asks if you’ve had enough food. It’s worth driving across town for even though I live on the south side.

Let me start off by saying the food was good. I got the big bbq sandwich with pulled pork meat, fries, and Mac n cheese. But as far as the service that was horrible. As I approached the front of the line I literally stood there for 5 minutes. While the man with glasses cutting the meat didn’t acknowledge me. Look up at me. Anything! After waiting for ever to be greeted and asked what I wanted. Finally placed my order with him. Then we found a booth to sit at. Only to find how disgusting it was. I understand people make messes but this was ridiculous. The wall next to our both had nasty looking white spots everywhere. I can’t even tell you what it was. It was sick! If you plan to get Dickies anytime soon I highly suggest going to the one on main. So much cleaner and great service. I will NEVER eat at the one on mooney ever again.

Great food! It’s worth the wait! The guys are friendly. It’s crowded for a reason, the food is awesome, be patient.

Dickeys is a place that I have visited often. Both locations in Visalia. I definitely prefer the Main Street one over the mooney location. I just finished lunch with my family. I had the smokehouse salad. I’ve had it before and the guy cutting the meat gave me half fat which I didn’t notice until I was half into the salad so I didn’t want to ask for more. 2 times we have been here and the ice cream machine didn’t work. The girl that rang me up told me that my salad doesn’t qualify for the kids eat free meal with purchase of a regular entrée but she would give it to me anyway. At the Main Street location any entrée counts. I understand they are different owners but maybe that’s why I’ve only ever seen coupons for the mooney location and not the Main Street location.
Also the bathrooms were disgusting. Men’s restroom has brown stuff spread on the wall. We all know what I mean by «brown stuff».

Always good, I had the ½ rack with the original sauce, just how I like it. I like things simple so this place fills the bill… enjoy.

I have been to this location several times for lunch, and decided I HAD to write a review after today’s visit. This is a combination of my last 3 visits (over the past 2 – 3 months). The food isn’t terrible, but here are a few of my issues:
1. The floor is filthy!!! Like ‘pull up your foot because it’s sticking’ filthy.
2. Out of TP AND hand soap in women’s restroom
3. Out of silverware
4. Soda fountain out of ice
5. Cashier walked away without acknowledging I was standing there ready to pay (he had literally just rung up the lady standing 2 ft from me). Came back 3 minutes later to ring me up and never apologized or offered up a reason
6. BBQ sauce caked on table cloth (like days worth… not just from someone who sat there 15 mins before)
They are not open for breakfast, you guys!!! There is absolutely NO reason for them to be this unprepared for lunch service! It’s obvious that they just don’t care. I will not be going to this location again!

The guy taking my to-​go orders of pulled pork probably didn’t know it was supposed 2 b, ‘pulled pork’. I got big balls of pork. There probably was a cheese shortest, b/​c my potatoes had very very little cheese. (Yes, it’s OK, to put cheese over the entire top, not just one side).The area to get the BBQ sauce looked like it needed staff attention. The last time I walk outside while they make my orders.

After reading the reviews, and my spectacular visit at the Main St. Dickey’s location, I was hesitant to eat here. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The brisket was as just as good! Service just as friendly! My only complaint is the free self-​serve ice cream machine was not working and my kids were unable to get their cones.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting too much of this place, but Visalia has been lacking a barbecue restaurant for quite some time! As you walk inside, you are immediately greeted by the staffs. They were very assertive and helpful.
Ordering is cafeteria style;
First staff: Choice of meat
Second staff: Choice of side
Third staff: Drinks and payment.
Cons:
The line can be long, but then again that just means that the food is great.
It can get a little pricey; nonetheless you get what you pay for.
Pros:
A few of my favorites are their ribs, tender chicken breast, pulled pork sandwich, loaded baked potato, baked potato casserole topped with cheese and green onions and mac and cheese. You can definitely tell that they take pride in their work. Their meats are slow smoked to perfection. The ribs fall off the bone!
If you like to dip your food in barbecue sauce, there are 3 delicious barbecue sauces on the right side of the drink machine.
The cherry on top is… FREE SOFT SERVED ICE CREAM (VANILLA).
Nothing beats homemade, but when you don’t feel like sparking up your grill at home, you should definitely drive down to Dickey’s BBQ on Mooney Blvd. They even cater!
I’ve had them cater to my work a few times and they’ve done a superb job. The service was great. They provided everything I needed to make my life much easier. All I had to do was sit down, relax and enjoy some great food.

Not bad, I am going to guess that there might have been some management restructuring or employee turnover since the last of some of the negative reviews I see on here.
Over all our experience was good. Was greeted before we even made it to the counter. The staff was very helpful and fun to talk to they also had great recommendations.
I cant say this place was totally clean, but as I never been in a *CLEAN* BBQ restaurant, this place was clean on par with what I would consider acceptable and our booth was clean before we got to it so no complaints here. Impressively even the restrooms were rather clean.
As for the food. I’m not sure how they have so many reviews for bad food. Aside from the fries looking a little on the oily side. the pulled pork sandwiches were great! I added a little more BBQ sauce but that’s a personal taste, not an issue with the meats. I just love lots of BBQ sauce, but I did try the meat before smothering it in BBQ sauce :)
Unrelated note. the toasting/​buttering machine for the sandwiches was cool. :)

Visiting kids and went out for dinner last night, went your BBQ pit and what a wonderful surprise!
Great food! Ordered family pack, the pulled pork and brisket were amazing! Also got half rack of ribs great as well, meat fell right of the bone
3 sides as well, green beans, potato casserole, and beans! 3 adults and 2 kids and we were all full and satisfied!
Had enough leftovers to make sandwiches for everyone’s lunch! Oh forgot we got rolls that were also amazing, great for the sandwiches! Thanks for a great dinner, will be back on future visits

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dickeys… their food is wonderful, their service is HORRIBLE!!! I went here and there was a line a mile long, no biggie… just shows you how good they are.
After waiting my turn, I attempted to place my order. Mid-​order, the guy that was making my food just walked away… no explanation just POOF and he was GONE. apparently it was his break cause he went to the soda machine, then went back to the kitchen and propped his leg up on the wall.
The poor kid that was left to take my order seemed just as puzzled as me. I asked him for that days special, but he didn’t know what that was. After I finally took care of that, I had another uphill battle trying to tell the girls working the counter what I wanted for my sides. They could not for the life of them figure it out. They kept giving people the wrong orders, therefore holding up the line even more cause angry customers were coming back to complain. They were overcharging people, putting stuff in a to-​go bag, then pulling it out again to count the food. It was a total nightmare!!!
Like I said, the food is good and that’s why I go back. Both this location and Hanford are horrible at customer service, so I Know this wasn’t just them having a ‘bad day’
This place needs to get their $h!+ together, cause there are not many people like me that will go back under these conditions no matter how good the food is

Being a new BBQ place in Visalia, this place has its ups. Went here for dinner with the family. You order in-​line and your order is made and then you pay for your meal. It’s a bit different than any other restaurant. But it’s more of a quick order style. Can’t say quick. yet. Visalia is notorious for new business that people will come here until they get tired. So look out for long lines. It took us more than 40 minutes to put in our order.
For a family of 6, we ordered the family XL. It comes with 3 — 1 lb of meat: we ordered brisket, ham and spicy cheddar sausage, 3 sides: we ordered onion stranglers, fried okra and potato salad. And finally 8 yeast rolls. We also ordered a full rack of ribs. So lots of food for the family!
It was a good eating experience. Your food is prepared, weighed and placed on a paper with an aluminum tray right in front of you. Meats were pretty tasty, can’t go wrong with their warm BBQ sauce so if the meat was a little dry, sauce will solve that problem! As for the sides, you can’t go wrong with fried food so okra and onion is bomb! Potato salad had dill. And I’m not too fond of that herb so I didn’t care much for it.
Overall, this is a great place to try if you have the hankering for some BBQ. I can’t wait until they have an online order system so you can just pick up. And don’t forget, can’t have BBQ without sweet tea! Also, they have a free soft serve too. Go ahead and make a soda float while you’re there. Assuming you aren’t full already. Enjoy!
