Suky’s Tailors

Horrible! I dropped by 10 polo and collared shirts for alterations. I was quoted a price, paid on the spot, and was given a date a week later for pick up. I showed up to get my items, and they told me that they were not even started yet. What?? They said that they were willing to "start them now", but I refused. There was no offer of a discount for my inconvenience, and I then asked for a refund. It took them 20 minutes to figure out how to process a refund thru their system, all the while waiting on other customers.

I left and took my items to Ida's seamstress in Norfolk. She charged me $100 dollars vice the $130 Suky wanted for the same thing. Beautiful job, on time and saved 30 bucks. I now have a new Taylor and will never step foot in Suky's again in this lifetime.

I have been going to Suky’s for a majority of my Navy career. They are decently priced, know the uniform regulations well, and always kind and courteous. I have never heard from anyone that Suky’s didn’t come through for them when they were in a bind. Set conveniently near JEB Little Creek, they sure get there share of traffic, but as mentioned previously, they always come through. Whether its rank, service stripes, tailoring, etc., they know what they’re doing and they handle your items with care.

For the military, it’s an okay shop when you need a job done quickly.
A majority of their business is for military uniforms but they do some tailoring for civilian clothes as well.
Good for straight forward name tags and tailoring. Not good for custom sewing jobs.

So after 6 months of brining my dry cleaning and tailoring needs to Sukys, I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere. While I still think they do an excellent job of tailoring, they always seem to be disorganized and mismanaged. I’ve had to wait for my clothes to be finished with tailoring/​dry cleaning on more than one occassion even though they usually tell me when I can pick up. Plus Suky is quick to catch an attitude when these things happen instead of working to make it right. Regardless, there are other dry cleaners and tailors in the area who can do what Sukys does with less frustration for me.

My husband recently dropped off his whites and cover here and I can’t even believe this place is still in business after what was returned to us. There were TWO creases on the front of his whites, seriously? And when I picked them up for him I didn’t know he had taken his cover to get his rank sewn on, and when I returned home he asked where it was and I informed him I was not given a cover. So he called to ask if they had it and the woman on the phone immediately got an attitude and said she never got a cover with his uniform. But we can’t even prove it because we were not given a receipt. This place is very unprofessional, unorganized and not worth your time.

My husband needed some patches and name tapes sewn on his utilities so we dropped everything off at Suky’s around 11 am on a Saturday. It was bustling and busy but the man who took everything from my husband said it would be ready by 2 pm that day. I was a little surprised by how quick it would get turned around and was thinking it wouldn’t happen considering how busy they were. Well, at 2 pm we went back and his stuff was ready. I don’t remember how many patches and name tapes he needed done, but it was about $ 60 for everything. This beats taking everything to the NEX uniform shop because they would have taken more than a week I’m sure to get things done. So if you need something quick, go to Suky’s.

I went there during a lunch hour and the place was really busy. Even though it seemed hectic, the line ran very smoothly. When it was my turn, I gave my garments for patches to be sewn and she asked when do I need it by. I asked if there was a chance to get it by end of the day and she said flat out, «Yes»
Whether you’re close to Little Creek Naval Base or not, Suky and her staff is just awesome. Very seasoned tailors at first glance and definitely remained that way for the last 6 months I been going there.

EDIT: I changed my review from five stars to only three. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure I was double-​charged on my last visit.
When I dropped my things off last time, I asked to have the tear in a coat pocket fixed, a button sewn back on jacket (yeah, I’m that incompetent when it comes to sewing but to my credit, I didn’t have the correct thread and I knew they would), a triangle velcro patch stitched to a flight suit, and a dress dry cleaned. I was told that the dress would be $ 16 for the cleaning. When they inspected the coat, she pointed out that she could either open up the lining on the inside to sew it properly at a higher cost, or she could just repair it sewing through both layers of material. I asked her how much to open up the interior lining and she told me $ 7 versus $ 3 for the easy stitch. I of course told her, «Let’s do it right. I don’t mind paying $ 7 to fix it right.» (I was thinking, $ 7?! That’s cheap!). A guy rang me up and said the total was $ 28.00. He swiped my card and that was that.
Today, as I started to leave with all my stuff in hand, the same guy said, «Oh, that’ll be $ 12.» pointing to the dress. I told him that I was under the impression that i had already paid for everything last time but he said, no, not the dry cleaning. I was confused (because he had originally quoted me $ 16 to have the dress cleaned). I asked him what the $ 28 was for and he gestured towards the bag with the three tailored things. I didn’t have a receipt, much less, an itemized one so I couldn’t argue, right?
It doesn’t sound right that it cost $ 7 for the most difficult thing to repair. That would mean that the total of sewing on a button and switching out a velcro patch would come to $ 21. If I recall correctly, it was only a few dollars the last time I had the same exact thing done to a different flight suit. I’m really frustrated and disappointed in myself that I didn’t request an itemized receipt in the first place.
So, in total, I payed $ 40 for this:
Dress dry cleaned: $ 12.00
Coat pocket 1″ tear repaired: $ 7.00
Flight suit velcro patch: ?
Button reattached: ?
That means, I paid $ 21.00 to have a button sewn back on and of course, the patch stitched in place… which, I’m certain, was only a couple dollars on a previous visit.
I’ll probably give them one more chance because of my good experiences prior to this one, but I’ll definitely walk out knowing exactly what I’m paying for next time.

I drive from downtown Norfolk all the way to Suky’s in Virginia Beach because of their quality, fast work and fantastic customer service.
Like J K. said, you can tell that everyone here appreciates your business which doesn’t seem like the norm in many places these days.
And like Milly W. says, they have done on-​the-​spot quick alterations for me as well. Talk about service!

I brought two fluffay very expensive winter down coats with fur around the hood, one was Marc Jacobs and one was Juicy Couture. The Juicy Coat had lots of gold decorations hanging off of it. Im always terrified leaving my expensive items at the cleaners…
Sukys always takes the best care with tailoring, cleaning, sewing any item in record time. I have left True Religion jeans, Juicy couture, Leather and fur coats everything comes back lovely. I would trust them with a vera wang wedding dress, or Versace Slacks. Great Work.

This is the best place to get your tailoring done period, as you start going they recognize you and they will go out of their way for you. Suky is very good with customer service.

Cheap, fast, amazing work. Suky is always very nice and appreciative of your business. She specializes in military uniforms. And now does dry-​cleaning too.

They are sooo nice and appreciate my business. Their prices have remained the same for years. I have even seen them do the alteration on the spot for nearly nothing. I refuse to take my uniforms anywhere else.
