KFC

This is the KFC that made me stop eating KFC. The food is the worst. Chicken is always hard and never tastes fresh. They always leave something out of your bag that’s just enough to irritate you when you get home with your food.

The food is good and fast. I had one of the $ 5 fill ups with chicken pot pie. Good value. The dining room was filthy, every table top had food residue and is dated. All the chairs have paint chipped in the legs. Maybe stick to drive through.

In restaurant terms this KFC located in the Bayside area across from the Haygood Shopping Center should be labeled an antique. It is one of the first, if not the first KFC at the Beach. However, it is also one of the lowest volume stores in all of Virginia Beach. For this reason it has been put on the back burner for much need interior updating.
Before entering I found the parking lot and sidewalks in great condition. There was only one other car in the parking lot and it was obvious the dining room was dead at round 5:30 PM. The drive thru which does more business than dinning in attracts more customers. Is this due to the old style drab accommodations inside? I would say it does not help.
Since this KFC has the old décor used 20 some years ago it is pretty unusual and somewhat cool in a nostalgic kind of way, strange me I know. Colonel Sanders welcomes you from a bench (see pic) as you come through the doors. Well the fiberglass Colonel anyway. Tonight I noticed they finally fixed his foot that has been broken off for a few years from kids jumping up on it. PLEASE kids don’t set on the Colonels lap he is fragile. Other vintage pics are around making it a pretty cool experience.
My son absolutely loves KFC chicken. Often that is all he eats when out of town for swim meets. This particular store has been visited by our family a half dozen times over several years. Over our visits we have found the staff to be extremely friendly and the food tasty.
Service at the register tonight was flawless and friendly. My son’s newest love is their extra crispy boneless chicken which he said was terrific and really filling.
The dining room cleanliness has been an issue on almost every visit. At times it is several tables and debris on the floor, to tonight which had minor trash on just one table. It looked pretty good tonight, but with it being pretty slow you would expect more. However, to the defense of the three nice staff working tonight they were hopping back in the kitchen with drive-​thru business. What is inexcusable is broken down springs on all three booths, they are really awful… the dinning room is really horrendous.
So in short, great place for food (if you like the greasy variety) and friendly service. Don’t come here for the dining room experience.
