I was pretty disappointed with this hibachi restaurant. I haven’t been to one in quiet a while and was pretty excited because these types of restaurants were always fun to eat at. The waitresses definitely needed more training because they they really struggled with the amount of people coming in and was very disorganized. My uncle had to request his drink multiple times and there was even a couple who waited quiet a while to be seated just to watch them pick their stuff up and leave with unsatisfied faces. There was only one hibachi chef and he was already cooking for another table so my family had to wait a little longer. His exhibition was subpar. He couldn’t quiet get the«spinning egg» trick just right, no matter how many times he tried. He, at least, impressed my younger cousins with his fire trick. On to the food… Big sad face. I ordered the steak hibachi with fried rice. He made the friend rice first and plated that for the rest of us, so by the time my steak came, my rice was pretty cold. The steak was also disappointing. It lacked a lot of flavor and just wasn’t pleasant to eat. I do give the chef the benefit of the doubt because he was all by himself, but I won’t be back to this restaurant again.

Gonna give it a 3 for now. I’m a local, remember eating here a couple months back, and food was good but not great, compared to other local hibachi fare. Went a couple weeks ago with family of 4, was seated, kind of busy, and couple other families seemed irritated. A group of 4, next to us complaining get about the wait, as they were there for about 20 – 30 mins and no orders yet. They switched to another grill. We waited about 10 mins, and not even a drink order taken. With 2 little ones, we weren’t ready for a 2 hr event(looked like only 1 chef working), so we left. I think they had recent ownership changes or something. Will update, if decide to try again.

I’ve been to this restaurant twice and the food was really good both times. The first visit I was able to walk in around 4pm on a Friday with my family of 4 and got seated immediately. Service was quick but didn’t come with a smile. The second visit was disappointing. I’m glad I called in advance because there was only one chef working that night so I had to make a reservation for an hour later. The chef was friendly and threw in a couple of tricks when he could but you could tell he was rushing which was understandable considering the circumstances. The waitress apologized that he rushed and for the lack of staff. The food was still really good but portions were way smaller than the time before. The waitress was nice but let our drinks stay empty for about 20 minutes while she chatted at the bar with someone. My brother in law tried to use the Unilocal discount which they stated they don’t honor anymore. They now automatically add gratuity before you pay, yet have a tip space(with suggested additional gratuity) on the copy you sign. Honestly the waitress didn’t deserve the 15% but the chef did. There are other hibachi places in the area with better service and great food so I probably won’t be back anytime soon.

Came here for a celebratory dinner with my bride and daughter. It was my daughters idea, so(with an eye roll) I said ok. Well I had a ball. We choose to have the dinner at the table where they prep and cook the food in front of you. The chef was superb. To have him flip, cut and roll things in front of you is a hoot. Being a novice at this, he was patient and frankly a lot of fun. It is obvious that he enjoys his job. While the prices are definitely not cheap, for the quality of food and the show that goes with it, it is worth every penny. Friend staff, good food, and an all around fun experience it is a strong four stars. Well done folks.

Lovely restaurant! My Sister and her family brought me here for dinner and we had a divine time. The staff is very friendly and remembered my Sister from a previous visit. My Sister has twins who are very picky eaters, as any child is. The twins ate all their food from the children’s menu. My Sister and her Husband ordered the chicken and shrimp and they were able to use a groupon for their meal.(CHECKGROUPONFORDEALS) I had a filet with teriyaki and I was pleasantly surprised when I seen how big the filet was. Chefs presentation was great and it kept the twins entertained. The food was tasteful and the fried rice was so yummy. I would highly recommend this establishment for lunch or dinner.

Rancid Steak! Handled horribly by owners. Monday night October 19th party of 3. The cook was entertaining and friendly. I ordered the shrimp and my child ordered the steak. The other noodles and rice. My food was fine. I reached over and tried a piece of my child’s steak and it was so spoiled I had to spit it out! The waitress handled everything well, the owners did not. They still wanted to charge me for this. Lectured and berated me. Brought an entire uncooked plate of steaks for me to look at to my table. It was horrifying to us and the couple we sat with. They couldn’t believe that they ruined everyone’s dining experience. So now the owners were arguing with all of us. If not for the nice couple we met the entire experience would have been a nightmare. Thank goodness she had the steak prepared well-done. She has a rare auto-immune disease and already is feeling the effects of the terrible evening.

Delicious! We ordered habachi chicken and shrimp and it was all very yummy and flavorful. My 3 year old kids ate well from their kids menu, so it was a great dining experience for us. They only have one chef but they said they are looking for another one, so the wait is a little longer than normal, but it’s habachi, so everyone should expect a longer restaurant sit down time in general. The staff is really nice and the owner was nice and welcoming. We used a groupon to try it out, and will be back in a few weeks. :). Restaurant has a bar for sushi and it’s updated and upscale with under bar lights.

Friendly staff, clean establishment, and fair prices. We came here for dinner as a family with our daughter and 6 month old son. We got there before the dinner rush and it felt like VIP service. Very friendly staff took our order, got the drinks, and explained the menu. They have kids portions at about 8 – 10 dollars. I had to use the restroom and was more than surprised on how well taken care of they are. You feel at home. The food was very good and the chef was very good about interacting with the whole family, keeping both kids entertained! :) They even surprised my wife with a wonderful birthday surprise! We will be coming back!

Purchased a groupon and decided to try out this place. It is located in a nice plaza and the appearance is very pleasing. The décor was nice and the restaurant was very clean. There was a sushi bar/bar, 6 hibachi stations, and some booths. The chef was great and interactive with us. I wasn’t a fan of the room temperature plum wine. Overall great food, atmosphere, and service. We will be back!

We decided to try this place since Hibachi is my favorite kind of restaurant food. We were relatively disappointed. My filet mignon was tough and my husband’s chicken was dry. They have all the usual yummy elements, but they just don’t do it nearly as well as others. Stick with Shogun at Hilltop.

The service was TERRIBLE! I took my fiancé on a date there and… I ordered a $ 24 steak teriyaki and my fiancé orders the shrimp. They then tell us they will not fire up the grill unless she orders something habachi based because they don’t want to have a cook come out to only cook one meal. Then they say she can’t have sushi at all. Then they say they will cook our meal in the back and will not make it in front of us which is the whole point of going there and paying all that money. So we say nevermind and decide to leave. Then they chase us into the parking lot to pay for a drink that we didn’t drink at all. Then all of the employees come out and are demanding we pay for this drink and the lady walks over and slams the check onto the table. A nice waitress eventually comes out and says this is wrong and is angry at her own coworkers for demanding us to pay and for not serving us the food or refusing to fire up the grill. The whole thing was embarrassing, disrespectful, and ruined our night. I will never go back.

It was good food, not exceptional. The servers were timely and very nice. Our hibachi chef got the orders a little mixed up but he was very nice and he seemed to try to make it fun. They also had good maki rolls. Reasonably priced. Full bar was plus and they had the game on.

Meh. This place is alright. I wasn’t super impressed with anything to be honest. I came here with my husband and my sister expecting something different than it was. Seems to be more of a Teppenyaki joint rather than sushi. We didn’t do that whole deal for dinner so I cant review anything on that. Instead, we opted to sit in the side dining area and only order sushi and a couple other apps. Our rolls were just OK, they fell apart really easily and were way too big. I hate it when rolls are as big as my forearm because I like taking each piece in with one bite. Whatever, maybe its a personal problem but I don’t care. The fish was fresh so I will give them that, we ordered a few pieces of sashimi and it was like butter, but this is how it should be all the time so im not going to clap or anything. I also had the pork Gyoza which was good, could have been crispier, a seaweed salad which was nice and the lump crab and avocado tower, which my husband and I thought was the best thing of the evening. The entire duration of our visit, we remained the only people in that side dining area, the Teppanyaki side filled up super quickly, so perhaps they are better well known for this. I will definitely give it a shot, A. It’s around the corner from my house and B. Fire shows excite me.

Visited while shopping in Red Mill and running some errands on this side of town. Stopped in around 6pm on a Sunday and there weren’t that many people inside. We were promptly seated in the small dine-in area that has about 8 tables. It was nice and clean. Our waiter was very good. Polite and attentive and friendly. I ordered the American Dream Roll and an avocado roll and my friend just wanted a large plate if steak fried rice. We also go edamame to start with. The food came out very quickly and my sushi was fresh and good. The owner didn’t really want to honor the 10% Unilocal check-in order like someone else mentioned before, but he ended up doing it without giving us any issues — but he insisted on seeing it on our phones instead of taking the word of the waiter. Oh well, I’ll be back. I had a good experience, good food, good service, and good price. Plus I like the location in the small, clean, safe little shopping center across from Handel’s Ice Cream.

Bf and I had lunch here on our last day of our beach vacation. We were in the mood for sushi but nothing heavy. We got the chicken lettuce wraps as an appetizer and they were delicious! Fresh, spicy but not too hot, and generous portion! I would’ve ordered this as a meal if I’d known how good it was! The only con was the lettuce– it was romaine leaves so it had a rib in the middle vs bib/boston lettuce leafs, which I think are better suited. But the best part of wraps is the filling anyway, the lettuce is just the vehicle of food transport to flavortown! I ordered a vegetarian sushi roll and the bf a spicy tuna roll. His was ok, nothing too exciting, but my veggie roll was disgusting. I dont know if some of the veggies were pickled, but they were not my cup of tea. Also one of the veggies was super hard and difficult to chew. Next time I’d like to try their hibachi food. Otherwise Im sticking with the chicken lettuce wraps! Give this place a try! The food was fresh and out quick!

Monday night I went out with my girlfriend to check out this place located in the Nimmo Parkway shopping centers for what we would hope to be a great deal on sushi. It was just that. A great deal. Monday nights they have a $ 3.99 special on regular rolls(tuna, smoked salmon, spicy tuna, california rolls, etc) and $ 6.99 for their specialty rolls(Volcano, Valentine, Ocean Naruto Roll) For a complete listing follow this link: We ended up getting the following: Shrimp Tempura Roll, Valentine Roll, Spicy Seafood Roll, Smoked Salmon Roll, and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Along with that this place also serves Boba tea so we each got a Watermelon and Coconut flavor. The boba tea was a good size albeit for $ 5 but the tapioca pearls were hit or miss. Some were just right while others were undercooked and chewy or crunchy. The sushi itself was a great deal and great flavor. If you’re looking for bigger pieces order more of the specialty rolls as there are 8 to a roll and a significantly larger size than the regular rolls. The décor of the place had us thinking more New York upscale with the neon lights above the bar area and the modernistic japanese feel, but the one thing about the place that night was that it was pretty cold. I guess that’s part of their uniqueness because there are even signs at the front doors saying to close the one behind you before you open the one in front to avoid allowing the air to escape. Weird but true. So wear a long sleeve, an appetite, and an open mind to another good sushi spot on Monday nights here in the Va Beach area. Kabuki is A-Ok with me for now.
