Dough Boy’s California Pizza

Decided to try this place out because option #1 had a long wait. I will say that their pepperoni pizza was good. Loved the crust. Service was ok, not the best. It wasn’t busy when we went and having to wait for refills was annoying especially when you see 4 – 5 staff just talking to each other. The pizza did come out quickly.

Protest all you want, your rebuttal verifies that it’s the correct place. Protest all you like, your childish ways just justify the review and lack of compassion. Anyone who dares eat at this establishment beware!

Watch out here people. Tourist season is here.
Our family came here because it looked fun and family oriented. We ordered directly from the menu and in fact, asked about samping local brews. Our waitress told us one of them was bottle only. No worries. We ordered the draft. Service was so so. Ordered fries, and asked for them first to settle kids. All came together. Food was good. Bill came and beers were $ 6.99 instead of $ 4.99? We brought it to our waitress’s attention, she apologized she said that she would have the manager take care of it. Manager came over who in fact was the assistant manager. He said none of his beers were $ 4.99. I showed him the menu. His response was our menu is not correct? I said if the general public sees you menu you need to charge what’s on there. He said I should fire the waitress? He should take responsibility. It took 25-​minutes for them too fix the price. Even If I didn’t work in the restaurant business, this was beyond unprofessional. You never belittle your waitress in front of your customer. You apologize and move on and deal with it later if need be. Coming in the summer of 2016 ask your waiter or waitress if the menu of current

Plus a minus! I have never taken the time to do a review, but this was ridiculous. The food was not bad and our waitress was nice, but the assistant manage was beyond a jerk. We questioned the price on the beer menu which was $ 4.99. The bill came and the price was $ 6.99 per beer. She mentioned she would have the manager fix it. When the assistant manager came to the table to explain that the printed price was for bottled beer (clearly not indicated on the menu) he followed that with the statement «I should fire her» in front of my family
including kids ages 7 and 9. They had given us a beer, but when the bill was questioned somehow it appeared on the bill with s minimal discount. Definitely NOT a family restaurant and the assistant manager should be fired for being so rude! Try a different pizza place that is better up its patrons and staff. Unbelievable!

I enjoyed this place but the only reason I’m giving it 3 stars is because I don’t like how the owner responds to certain customer reviews. It is very unprofessional at times. I understand certain comments can be frustrating as I work in customer service myself. But rude remarks definitely doesn’t help business.
Other than that, the wings here are delicious!

First of all I don’t know what crap food people are used to but this place is great. I was skeptical I mean Italian food and I’m a New Yorker so I never get my hopes up, further more I’m here slightly off season for my daughter’s cheer competition and place was dead I mean I was the only customer in here. Everyone was very friendly and nice I placed my to go order for garlic Parmesan wings and baked ziti. I sat for almost 10 min while it was made … I got back to my hotel room to eat with my child and low and behold this food is great. The wings are juicy and super flavorful. The ziti is so cheesy and yummy I ordered with extra sauce on the side because pasta can soak up sauce. I truly enjoyed my meal. When the family and I come back we will be eating here! Thank you for the great food and service!

Yep, everything was good (service too) but the Pizza was surprising REALLY good Pizza!

Talk about amazing pizza!!! This is my favorite place to geab lunch while I’m at the beach! If you like bbq you have to try their Texas bbq pizza! It is one of my favorites! The atmosphere is super laid back and they even have outdoor seating along with corn hole boards! How fun?! The staff is very helpful and nothing but nice! If you are lookinv for a refreshing drink try onw of their crushes!

Visited in the off season of early March and had a WONDERFUL experience. The service was personable and friendly and the food was delicious!
Highly Recommend! Pizza was fresh and not greasy at all.
We had a medium a Hula Seared Garlic between the two of us and it was perfect size!

Horrible service… restaurant less than ½ full, 3 wait staff and no excuse. Food was okay, nothing special, definitely not worth the price.

Doughboy’s has great food and service, you can’t go wrong here. Chealsea will see to it if there is a problem it is solved. She is the best and is all over the establishment. Two words for the owners, MORE TV’s!!! Overall a great place.

While not the prettiest restaurant on Atlantic they have pretty decent food. Not the best and not the worst pizza, same with sandwiches and fries and calzones, but its alright.
They were out of numerous toppings and items so I didn’t get to try them at their best but if you need a cheap bite for you and your kids then you should give them a whirl, but be advised it won’t be quick as their service even when empty is slow.

Not a fun time… Pizza and fried foods were super greasy. The sandwiches were slapped together and the cheese tasted like rubber. The wraps were drowned in sauce, unfortunately. Service was slow and distracted, so maybe there was a shortage of wait staff that night?
The prices were pretty exorbitant for the quality, but the portions were HUGE. If you are starved and need a ton of food, go here.
For me, however, even if there have 5 locations along the boardwalk, I will avoid Dough Boy’s in the future.

I’m giving this place 4 stars based on the fact that it’s cheap, friendly and the food is decent. It’s not a four star restaurant in the traditional sense, but it’s a good cheap option in the middle of a tourist trap town. Went back more than once during a one week stay in VA beach. Next to Ben and Jerry’s too which is an added plus.

Pretty good place to grab lunch. I enjoyed my George’s Gyro. It wasn’t as good as a good authentic gyro but I’m pleased with it. It wasn’t dry and the meat had good flavor. They say their fries are specially seasoned but you don’t really get much flavor from them. I ended up putting more salt and pepper on them to bring out any flavor. The meals have pretty good portions and came out in a timely manner. My experience here was pretty much what I expected. A bit of a wait with the hostess just telling you to sit anywhere. I think I would come back considering they have a pretty big selection of pizza to choose from including some deep dish styles.

I didn’t like the food, even got into a bit of a Unilocal spat with the manager.
After a while, the manager loosened his tone. I’ll up my review.
Customer service is so important to a local business. Owners and managers alike must be versed in setting aside anger and disappointment in hopes of creating engaging dialog. When you are replying to a public review you must keep two goals in mind. First, you want to show potential customers that you are hospitable and willing to not only take criticism, but also act on it. Second, you want the customer to return to your venue.
I’m very happy to see that the manager has decided to focus a bit on the PR piece of the business. It is my hopes that they can use all reviews — good and bad — to improve themselves so that they will remain a VA beach staple for decades to come.

We felt the pizza and pasta we ordered here was wonderful. Just the right amount of crispness to the dough. Service was awesome. I love the waitress we had. So attentive and responsive. People like her are very hard to find. We would go back here in a heartbeat. Only knock to this location was the beer selection and availability. Otherwise all else was great.

We ordered take out. Greek salad and a large pie. Gave us plates but did not give us forks for the salad. Lost a start because of that. Luckily we stayed at the Residence Inn and they have all the utensils.
Place look decent to eat in.
Not sure on the over all service as we did not eat in.

The children wanted pizza one night during our recent junket to VA Beach while the lovely wife and I did not. After reading every VA Beach coupon book under the sun and seeing Doughboy coupons/​ads in each one I figured I would give them a try since they were right by our hotel.
A quick call was made and I was told it would be ready in fifteen minutes. I showed up a few minutes before fifteen and figured this would be easy considering that aside of two at the bar plus a family of eight the place was deserted.
Now with how dead it was it should have been an easy pick up except it wasn’t. I see the pick up sign at the bar and confirm with the hostess that I need to go to the bar. She said that only the bartender can take care of take out orders. Fare enough, except that the bartender has his back turned away from me/​the two sitting at the bar on what certainly seemed like a personal phone call. After a few minutes I ask a young-​ish looking employee who was walking by if he could help me out and he said no because only the bartender could handle take out orders.
After a few more minutes I cought the eye of the hostess who came over and now magically was able to finish the transaction when seven or eight minutes prior she said that only the bartender could.
As for the pizza, I wound up sampling a slice and to me it tasted like Pizza Hut style thick congealed cheese from the ‘80s (which is actually good) mixed with a thin-​hard almost cardboard like Ellio’s style crust (which is actually very bad). Overall, meh, it was alright.
Have I had better? Of course.
Have I had worse? Indeed.
Would I come back again? Maybe, but there are so many places in that area all peddling the exact same thing that I’m sure I could find something comparable in price without the indifferent staff & average food.

I’m surprised as a local that we haven’t been to Doughboys before tonight. Shame on us. Now that the tourists have left, we can take back the Beach and enjoy it.
Tonight Erin V. was our server. She was attentive, personable and efficient. We were seated promptly. It was a Sunday night so it wasn’t busy. Erin told us about the ½ price wing special and contrary to some reviews we had no problem getting refills. Yep it’s true… Sodas and tea are 2.89 each. Ask for the Unilocal discount and be friendly about it and maybe you’ll get a discount.
So a disclaimer about our awesome resort area is that any and all restaurants at the Beach go through trials when you have hundreds of people passing through. I can tell you though, as a local who every year stays in a hotel at the Beach, there’s a way to play this game. It’s simple: be personable and stop being dickheads. You will be amazed at how awesome your service is when you leave your problems and attitude at the door. I’m appalled at some of the reviews left here. Not because of the food or issues but because of just how the wording is. Stop making Unilocal accounts just to badger and harass restaurants. You make us look bad who actually do this for the benefit of others. You just look hateful and it’s not attractive. Give out positive vibes and it’ll come back to you. Give out shitty vibes and you’re gonna be stinky from all the shit that flies back into your face.
That said… Our service tonight was great. I enjoyed my cheeseburger. Cooked medium just as ordered and I loved the seasoned fries and onion rings. My husband enjoyed his wings and ham and cheese sub. Fresh ingredients, pretty timely and a friendly server.
